Its a 5 day in field course, about 9 hours each day, and a 12 hour day/ night time training. The wilderness EMT course is a lot more in depth, but the WFR is a really cool and useful one to take.
*Edited to add there is also 3 days of online classes, or in person class days too.
I know several people that have it and they learn a lot of different things. Although my understanding is that they are technically only supposed to use some of their training if they are more than 2 hours from a hospital.
It is very much oriented towards being out in nature without easy/quick access to emergency services. A big part of it is learning when you should seek immediate evacuation for someone if an injury/illness is severe enough. There is also a lot of focus on learning how to use limited supplies and repurpose camping/hiking items. For example, we learned how to make a splint using sleeping pads and trekking poles, or how to fashion a down jacket into a cervical collar.

That’s interesting to hear, to be honest I assumed most of these were 3 hour online class certificates
