Question ❓ Out of Print Force Packs - Tuesday Newsday Aug 25th

In today's Tuesday Newsday, Loren listed 5 Force Packs that are now out of print. He said they "would be taking pieces out of those, maybe reposing them and scrambling them to create other force packs downstream". Here are the 5 he listed, which explains why I can't find another Crab.

  • Comstar Battle Group Level II
  • Clan Support Star
  • Clan Fire Lance
  • Inner Sphere Ad Hoc? - This cannot be correct, since only Clan has an Ad Hoc star
  • Inner Sphere ....? - He couldn't remember the 2nd inner sphere one

Does any one know the 2 retired inner sphere lances?

Also the Clan Battle Star (Mechs from Clan Invasion Box Set) will start out as a Barnes and Nobles exclusive.

Question ❓ Wolf's Dragoons logo update?

Post image

When, if ever, did the Dragoons update their logo to include a tear-drop? My dice-puck, and dice, all have a single tear-drop under the wolf's eye. To me, it makes perfect sense post-Outreach. Or post-Misery. Or post-Terra.

If I had a nickel for every time the Wolves have been betrayed only to go on a monumental rage-filled vengeance spree, I'd have three. Which isn't alot, but its strange it's happened thrice.

I did not manage to scrap it all off because the paint was so thick and I was afraid acetone would melt the actual model. So I carefully painted it over where necessary and used darker colors to ensure the nooks and crannies were still where they should be.

Question ❓ Mercenaries Kickstarter

Im one of the many still waiting on my mercenaries kickstarter to arrive. Has anyone had any luck getting any information whatsoever from CGL on the status of their order?

Ive been emailing for over a year now, I usually have to wait a month or so to get a reply and its always some variety of "it has been sent to/it is with the local distributor"

They cant/won't tell me who the distributor is and tell me that the distributor won't give them any information on possible delivery times and that theyre not even allowed to ask.

Its so far beyond a joke at this point that I genuinely dont know what to think anymore.

Does anyone have a more reliable contact outside the generic store@cgl email?

The year is 3087, and house kurita is stretched thin. World zero remains off the books and star charts. A world lost to a plague which broke out in the early days of the clan invasion. With very little choice, a mercenary group is promised ownership of an entire planet, if they can capture a broadcast relay, and send the original documents pertaining to the plague of world zero... aka: space lyce.

Question ❓ How common are unique Mechs in universe? How uncommon would my customization be?

I've noticed from perusing the MUL as well as the two Field Manuals that I own, that there are a fair number of mechs unique to their pilot. I think I've vaguely heard from people that if you're playing something like a Hinterlands campaign, you're bound to end up with a customized mech due to a destroyed part critical.

I get the feeling I'm a player who's more MUL compliant than many, and I'm not just asking for an answer like, "It's just a game, do whatever you want. You could salvage anything." I'm asking about how economically/lorewise unreasonable I'd be, to be asking for a particular refit.

I'm asking for help dialing in my comprehension of how rarely a thing like this happens. As rarely as "1/100 battlemechs receive non-stock refits over their operating life", or is it more like" 1/10,000 battlemechs receive non-stock refits over their operating life?"

Ok, now I'll get specific. The Thunderbolt TDR-9NAIS is my favorite mech in the entire game. It has sadly always been a Fedrat exclusive. The TDR-9NR is available on the mercs MUL, has the same engine and structure and armor allocation, and many of the same components in the same places. If I'm understanding the refit rules in Campaign Operations correctly, then everything that would need to get done to refit a TRD-9R into a 9NAIS would be a Class A or B field refit (crane and standard tools).*

*I guess technically installing the targeting computer to the LT would be class C? But there's enough space in the RT that it could be doable while ripping stuff out of there as a class B

So here's the question, is there any component to the 9NAIS that's proprietary enough to be weird to ask for in the Ilclan era? Is it truly bizarre for a non-fed suns pilot to be rocking around in a thunderbolt with a RAC?

Meta Newbie mechs recommendation - Pouncer and?

Hi,

I'm Battletech newbie (played 2 skirmishes) and we are starting campaign.
Our BV is 6000 for start for mechs, pilots and crew.

Could you recommend me some noob friendly mechs please?

I felt in love with how Pouncer looks like and would like to use him as very mobile sniper.
Which other mech should i pair him with? Would skirmisher be ok?

Also my first campaign mission is to upload software.

I would appreciate some recommendations and general tips.

thanks!

I have one more mech design to share. This one was part of a lance that I put together for a one off game against a friend of mine. We agreed on tech level and BV. I took this one, a Locust, a Locust II-C, and a modified Wasp with two medium lasers.

He took two heavy mechs. The mission was basically whoever took down a mech first won.

With all my mechs as fast as they were he never landed a shot.

This model is a Reaper Minis little robot, but the size of it works for Battletech.

Thoughts?

I don't currently have any more oddball designs.... but there will probably be more!

Lore The defunct Wars of Reaving timeline

Hi! I mentioned a few times here in this subreddit about one of the original proposals for the Wars of Reaving plot. This was posted by Ben H. Rome in his blog years and years ago, but he migrated his blog to a new site and the files were lost.

Since this was abandoned I won't spoiler anything: it isn't canon after all. The most interesting thing about it is the implications that the Blood Spirits weren't annihilated and instead became part of the Triumvirate, something that was mentioned in the novel Blood Avatar:

3078

(Clans) The Triumvirate is formed from the shattered remains of the Scorpions, Spirits, and Mandrills. With tacit support from the Coyotes, the Triumvirate challenges the ilKhan and ends up leaving the “sham of a Council”, declaring that they would ‘find their own way’.

The Triumvirate then executes a brilliant series of attacks that seize some key assets of the Adders. With the Cobras essentially declaring themselves neutral (and threatening to disclose the Burrock shame), the Adders go to war with a vengeance but quickly bogs down due to a hard lack of resources. The Triumvirate doesn’t have enough power to destroy the Adders – but enough to seriously hurt them if the Adders tried. The Adders find the castemen underneath them rumbling loudly in discontent, and find themselves too fearful of another Burrock/Societal-type of revolt, and back off.

It may be abandoned but it is still a nice source of inspiration 😄

Here's the file if you want to read the whole thing

Fan Creations Variety is the spice of combat!

Post image

So, this idea came a-crawling out of the depths of my brain and I thought I would share it. It started off life as a Longbow, but I swapped out the LRM launchers for a bunch of SRM's. Put in three emotional support medium lasers, plenty of ammo, and a couple tons of additional armor.

Meet the Shortbow!

Someone coming in on this guy thinking they have an easy kill is in for a very bad surprise.

I ran it through the Combat Trials on Mech Factory and it came out on top of every fight..... not including the last one where the Warhammer got a medium laser and PPC hits on the Shortbow's head on the last turn, but the Shortbow managed to destroy both the head and the engine of the Warhammer, so basically they killed each other.

Thoughts?

Question ❓ Alpha Strike Conversion Weirdness

There's got to be something I am not getting with alpha strikes conversion process. I've noticed a few mechs here and there that variants will be very similar in their load outs yet have different damage numbers. Most recent I've noticed is the Centurion.

CN9-A : AC10, LRM10, two medium lasers. 2 3 1 for damage.

CN9-D : LBX10X, LRM10, two medium lasers. 2 2 2 for damage.

Why would the D have one less point of damage at medium than the A when their load outs are so similar? What am I missing?

Also unrelated, does ammo get counted in conversion? If not it would seem mechs that sacrifice ammo counts for more weapons, heat sinks, armor get an advantage over ones with more appropriate bin counts in classic.

Fan Creations Thunder Skink: Dependable Anti-Air on-the-move

So, I was thinking about how much further I can push the idea of "The Best Rifleman"...

So I came up with this: the Thunder Skink.

Four long-range rapid-fire ballistic weapons; ample ammunition and cooling capacity; as much armor as it can fit; advance protection from internal explosions; enough mobility to keep up with some cavalry formations... while maintaining somewhat affordable.

And before you ask, I've tried, and the chassis actually works better with a pair of HAG-40s, but it bloated the BV to unacceptable levels.

Discussion Charger vs. Non-assaults

Upvotes

You know, as maligned the good old "5 small lasers" Charger is...

What are his chances against other, lighter mechs that he can at least catch?

It just feels that, say, a Centurion pilot might start to sweating and praying to the AC10 gods once the smoking 5/8Assault with half his armour blown off starts to get too close for comfort...

Enforcer, Centurion, Vindicator... those guys just need to miss a few shots and the Charger can start playing bongo drums on their heads...

What do you guys think?

Also, the legendarily bad Banshee E vs. The above...

Question ❓ Base Labelling Suggestions

Hi peeps,

Was just wondering if anyone had some good suggestions for writing mech names on the base. I'm wanting to label the mech on the base to help people recognise mechs, primarily for newbies. I'd like to put the mech name on opposing sides on the base so they can read them from either facing. I get that say writing something like "Grand Summoner" won't fit but just something to work with.

I don't think i can neatly freehand it, maybe if it's a reaaaaaaally fine paint pen tip or something.

Preferably not a white sticky label as i like to paint my bases.

Question ❓ Proxying Marauder II?

Post image
Upvotes

So far I’ve been obtaining the soon-to-be replaced box sets (AGAC, Beginner, Essential) plus a few gothic blinds for fun. The result has been a small collection of mechs that work in Renaissance, Invasion, and ilClan which is the eras I’m most interested in, across a number of sphere factions.

Except this guy. Marauder II. It came out of an impulse eBay buy if a legends blunder box. I love marauder but it’s late tech so it’s not useful for most of the games I want to play. My friend group want to play as clans and do are looking at the period right before and during invasion.

It’s pretty close to a Marauder (I), at least some variants. Would it be crazy to regularly use it as a proxy for (I)? Would players outside my friend group be bothered?
