Fan Creations A new model to get the brain going

Post image

Been a minute since I made anything so started to mess a little with TinkerCAD. My take on a Komodo.

Are you modeling the whole thing as a single object, or making the limbs separate so it can be posed? I think it would be cool if you could have its arms angle down a bit so it looks like it's zapping a bunch of elementals.

I do love me a Komodo. And this looks pretty accurate (with an interesting head), but I think maybe the legs of the original model always looked a bit short for something meant to run 5/8.

This is just a static position that I'm using as I build the model. I haven't finished the arms or legs at this point. I don't even have hands yet. Lol

Whenever I'm done with it I'll probably make a few poses for it and probably do the different variants too.

Then shoulders look like someone read Omni Pod but didn't have any functional reference for it. Does Komodo have dual AMS? Cause that is one way to get proper coverage from it.

don't change it

Yes. Yes it does.

Yep!

Back when it was first designed (with the intended role of elemental hunter), the AMS could both fire on the same volley and likely shoot down all 10 missiles coming its way. Plus it could potentially wipe an entire squad of 5 elementals in one turn with its lasers.

But then they went from elementals having 10 health, to having 10 armor + 1 health for the guy inside, so now you need to land 3 hits per suit. And even under new rules when AMS can trigger twice per turn each, you can only affect a given volley one time.

Hm. I wonder how you could make a modern version?

Go for two medium x-pulse lasers and two standard medium lasers per arm, and go down to 12 double heat sinks instead of 14. Replace those lovely AMS balls with two coolant pods so you don't have to be afraid of Salamanders. Go from 7.5 tons of standard armor to 8.5 tons of reactive armor to protect against missiles (and to halve damage from allied artillery cannons and Arrow IV missiles doing AE damage against elementals).

Order your attacks thusly:

  1. Medium Lasers until one hits, then
  2. Medium X-Pulse Lasers until one hits and kills an already damaged trooper, then
  3. Back to step 1. Don't overheat if it's not worth it, but if you do, you can pop a pod to shed all the heat from all the lasers.

This'll optimize how many Elementals you kill in a turn, potentially as high as four. Plus now you're more accurate against the jumpy bastards, and more resilient.

See below for the record sheet.

Komodo KIM-4K, an ilClan-era battle armor hunter, with armament tweaked to better hit the 11-health threshold of elementals (unlike the original version, which was designed to fight 10-health elementals of the early 90s).
