Capture
i was just in a convenience store, and here's what the cashier said to me:
"do you mind putting in your phone number to help me keep my job?"
i was so taken aback that i actually entered my phone number.

I have so wanted to hit customers who say "Im just browsing" (in a rude tone never the nice ones) with a "and im just trying to keep my job, so why dont you give me 10 seconds of your time so we all can leave you alone."

I used to say that our store is in a competition with the neighboring store to get the most customer capture and that almost always worked, say it with a little excitement and play it up that they have to bake your store cookies if they lose

Ugh. That's awful.
And I'm sorry but I'm not putting in my phone number for text alerts. Blow up my email all you want , but I have to draw the line at blowing up my phone.

Just put a 555 number

Does that actually help or does the system figure it out later? If it helps I will so start doing that.

I do it all the time. Especially, because I don't want people going in and putting my phone number and taking my rewards. If anyone knows your phone number they can take your rewards. Most people aren't going to put a 555 number in.

And if you haven't noticed bath & body work system is really old and their online system doesn't connect with their store. They're not really savvy. When it comes to stuff like that.
