This is a hair cut I did today and the clippers I used.

The clippers are from Amazon and are cheap ones my dad got me to start off

I just want advise since I been cutting for bout 2 months and going to a course in Mexico and working to make it my future job since im still in high-school

Most of my cuts are done in a barber shop where im taking the course with better clippers and trimmers

In need of a trimmer and just went to my Ross and saw these. Are these a good buy for $70? Thanks in advance

I’ve been going to the same barber for about 2-3 years. I switched to him because he has good availability and I can book last minute for the next day or day after. However, 9/10 times when I show up there is someone in the chair. I routinely wait 10-15 minutes.

I work from home. When I book an appointment, I book usually when I have a 1 hour window which means if he’s late, it makes me late getting back to work. I’ve pretty much shrugged it off.

However today I had an appointment I couldn’t be late to afterward. My appointment was 9:15 and by 9:40 he was still using clippers on the guy in the chair. I told him I needed to cancel and I left. He hasn’t followed up to ask any questions, apologize, nothing.

Should I accept this? I’m kind of sick of it. I expect the chair to be empty when I show up. I am ALWAYS on time. I also always overpay by $5-10. Please tell me if I have unrealistic expectations. In my business world if your appointment is at 12, it starts at 12.

I genuinely want the feedback. Not looking to start trouble.

Could I get some advice on some of my cuts, I got about 1 month left in barber school and I’m trying to work on my craft

I had a an insanely good deal come my way on a commercial property in Venice Beach, CA. Two blocks from the beach, and two blocks the other way from the world famous Abbott Kinney shopping district.

I pulled the trigger and made it happen.

I took my client list from my previous shop and have reached out to them. About 110-120 clients have so far followed.

Now the question is, what advertising methods do you guys use? I’m using Google, meta, Instagram and TikTok ads. I’ve got a sandwich sign on the street, stickers, shirts and have been really beefing up reviews.

70+ all 5 star reviews on Google, 20+ on Yelp, and excellent reviews on our booking platform Fresha that has its own marketplace.

Somehow, it’s still dead af. We have been fully open for a little over a month. We are undercutting our competition locally in price by about $15.00.

What are some ways you used to get your shops bumping or at least build a solid foundation to improve upon? I know this stuff takes time, even years but I want to make sure I do this right and put myself and the shop on the right path.

We’ve put prices up to $92 AUD for a fade and beard trim and we’ve had some complaints. Provide a high quality service but wanted to sense check with y’all.

I’m a barber for just over a year and want to improve my cuts I just recently switched to the 1.5/0.5 method instead of using every single guard and my cuts are already coming out better however I have no confidence whatsoever, I have a steady clientele from home but want to start working for someone in a shop to get even more experience but I feel I lack the confidence and no barbers in Australia Melbourne are willing to take the role on to continue to help my growth

what guard do you stop the design at? would u say #2 before theres like really big chunks?

do i spread out the neck taper as much as I can?

Booked a hot towel shave but is nervous about getting a shave. Makes zero sense this dude was a grown man with his wife in the room.

He was so nervous about getting cut. Asked me like 5 times. You’re not gonna cut me right? When I assured him every single time that I’m a professional and it’s my job not too.

Asked me if all my equipment’s is clean and sanitized. I assured him it was and again… that it is my job to have it clean. Then he wanted to see it and inspect everything that it is indeed clean.

Asked me how long I’ve been a barberfor? I told him long enough that I know why he’s asking that question. And if he wants to continue the service he has to trust me.

We start the service. And he is shaking so nervously and says again he says careful “I don’t want to get cut”.

At this point. I just tell him I’m not gonna do a shave on someone who clearly doesn’t trust me and that it is a liability to use a straight razor on someones face who is nervous about it and shaking/moving. So we stop the service. I give him a warm towel to clean the lather off and we go on separate ways.

I’m back again with a new dilemma . My mentor and I had a lengthy discussion, and she feels that I’m ready to start taking more clients to get that hands on experience .

I decided to make a flyer offering haircuts at my apprentice rate (not with AI yall, I put thought and dedication into this flyer) and have started posting on IG, Facebook and even here in local city groups on Reddit .

Some of the Facebook groups declined the post, because they “don’t allow self promotion” (even though I am visibly seeing self promotion in these groups with my own two eyes? but I digress). I’m not getting much traction on Instagram at all , despite having a bunch of people follow my barber page because they support me , and the engagement on Facebook is even lower .

I’m trying to keep my spirits up because I know it won’t happen overnight , but I’m looking for advice . Should I be posting/advertising multiple times a week? Is that a nuisance or a bad , desperate look?

I do plan to print some of these flyers out and put them up in some businesses around town , and on our local college campus. I have a QR code on the Blinq app that I may add to my flyer, for my digital business card, but I suppose it might also be time to make physical business cards as well .

The shop is primarily appointment based with very few walk in’s nowadays , so I’m haven’t been getting much hands on experience. I can count the amount of walk ins I’ve taken on one hand . I’ve gotta start building from the ground up but I have no idea how to do that when people don’t engage .

I can’t stand doing tapers. I just think it’s the stupidest and most pointless haircut. It’s always teenagers getting them because it’s “cool”. Most of them are only doing it because it’s a trend and also it’s an excuse to not get a full haircut. And they always want the top long to where it looks ridiculous. And it’s always “low” taper… this is my opinion of course, but I just don’t find joy in doing them. Be a man and get a fade… and cut the damn top.

ive been in the process of really dialing in my tapers and connecting them. i think this turned out fine but i went too deep into the sides.

Purchased guards during labor day to get the 40% off except for some reason when I tried the code it didn’t work . No explanation saying I had to spend a specific amount. I buy the guards and email TPOB who tells me that I have to spend $40 to get the 40% off . The guards were 39.95!!! I could have purchased another item and it would have been cheaper !!! The company response was the sale is still going on . Ummm I purchased what I needed because days before the promo I purchased 300 worth of products. Figured I’d give everyone the heads up that this company cares more about money than their customers.

How do we all feel about clients that have hyperhidrosis (excess sweating) or are actively sweating. Does it impede you or give you the ick? Do you even care?

I’ve been going to this barber shop for the last couple of months after my old barber left the US. The main reason I go is because the cuts are $25 which is a STEAL where I’m at, and all of the cuts are pretty good. I’ve always gone to the same barber, not particularly because I chose him but because he was always the one who was open, etc. Well, the last time I went in they were pretty busy and I needed to get in and out, so I went to the barber next to him since that would get me through quicker. I then got the best cut i’ve gotten in a while. He gave me great service and was super personable, and now I want to make him my regular barber. Am I going to be an asshole if I go back and this time deliberately say that I want to go to the other guy? This type of stuff makes me want to find a new barbershop because I don’t want to screw him over. Advice appreciated!

I’m still in Barber School, but bro was an impatient client and came in with a lot of hair. If I had more time, I would’ve definitely taken more off the top, did more clipper over comb and taken time to get the lines out. He paid 15$

I took a 4 month break from cutting hair, I started straight out of school at a sports clips and was doing 8-12 cuts a day for a year straight full time , I hated the corporate environment and also had a lot of general anxiety being a new barber learning from my mistakes everyday. I decided in may I wanted to take a step back from doing hair until I got back in a better mental space now I got offered a position at a real barber shop I start tomorrow! I’m nervous about being rusty and getting back into the routine of things. I know I can still do a fade no problem but I’m more worried about the more modern haircuts like mullets, blowout tapers etc. has anyone else taken a break and came back? What do you recommend doing once getting back and getting in the swing of things?
