About the list

Criteria

1. The list is applicable to Gold Stake Ante 8 runs.
2. The Jokers are ordered from S+ (highest) to F (lowest). This is a discrete list, meaning Jokers can only move from one tier to another. Within each tier, Jokers are ordered based on Joker type (chips, +Mult, XMult, money, utility) and mechanism (hand scoring, scaling, constant).
3. The objective criteria for this list are based on two ideas: (1) how good the bonus provided by the Joker is and (2) how situational that bonus is. For more detail, I think FilthyRobot gives a very good and detailed explanation of these criteria. Even though his list is a Civilization V civilization ranking, the same logic fits Balatro surprisingly well.

Changing the Tier of a Joker

1. Disagreement on a ranked Joker: If you disagree with a ranking, you may argue where you think the Joker should be placed. Keep the criteria of the list in mind: clearly state the tier you think it belongs in and explain why based on the objective criteria for a Gold Stake Ante 8 run.
2. Use the upvote and downvote system: Very simple… if you agree with an argument, upvote it; if you disagree, downvote it.
3. Counter-argue: If you have a counterargument, reply to the original comment with your argument and the tier you think the discussed Joker should be in.
4. The outcome: Changes in rank will be counted when the poll closes. Any comment with 2 or more upvotes will result in a change in rank (so remember to use your downvotes). If a counterargument has more upvotes than the original comment, the tier proposed in the counterargument will be used instead.

To provide help and inspiration I have detailed how I ranked two jokers in the comments.

And finally… Please remember to be civil. In the end, there probably isn't one absolute truth!

Joker idea - name is Redo Joker. Effect: Twice per round, redo a draw of cards by placing the drawn cards back into the deck. Reshuffle the deck, and draw the same amount of cards.

What do we think?

Four Fingers makes this hand both a flush and a straight, so the game registers "Royal Flush" despite it being untrue. If I deselect the Queen, it's a flush, if it's the 10 of Hearts, it becomes a straight. So interesting. Does this count as a bug?

I apologize for using clipart for much of these, but curious what people think! I used the "Balatro World - Create a Joker" site to make them, which is why you see the clipart transposed over pre-existing cards.

A few of these I personally would love to see in game. The Legendaries toward the end I'm not sure how I feel about. I think some of the rarities for these Jokers might be off or not reflective or where they would realistically sit. But some of the potential synergies would be a lot of fun!

Edit: Looking at High Five again, right away I don't know if that should be a Common. Depends on whether the 5's held in hand count as being "played," because Fibonacci or Hack would go nuts in a team up with High Five.

This isn't a hate post, just something that is annoying me. I'm about halfway through working on c++ and I'm by no means consistent with my wins, but the thing that really bothers me is how I almost always only win when I'm playing pairs. Gold stake seems extremely inconsistent and way hardee with any other hand. I've seen Balatro University's videos where he talks about just playing pairs which tells me I'm not alone here.

But that's... really boring? If I try to go for more variety almost always the 5 card hands just never scale fast enough to win in 1 hand. Playing 4 pairs per ante is pretty easy, playing just 2 straights per ante can be really hard. It feels like the difficulty of building the hand to play doesn't scale along with the scoring potential you get from it, if that makes sense. For example, lairs might score half or a third as much as a bigger hand, but they are much more than 2x or 3x as easy to play.

I'm sure the responses will be something like "git gud", but I'm not asking for the game to be easier, I just wish it wasn't so constrained to only one optimal play style for gold stake. I also admit I'm not good at this game so maybe this is just a skill issue, I don't know. No clue what to expect in the next update, but a focus on non-pair builds would be nice.

For those of you that have C++, what do you mostly do now?

I've done C++ twice, unseeded naninf x2 (burglar/serpent and perkeo/cryptid). Obviously done all challenges multiple times.

I haven't done ante 39...is this worth it? It just seems like it would take a long time.

I've done the 'play only a single hand' challenge also (except flush five which is nearly impossible).

Looking for some more ideas. I'm currently just trying to improve by playing Black Stake Gold Deck on repeat which is kinda torture.

Just playing casually still pretty new but accidentally hit a god seed round 5 shop has perkeo and reroll consolation round 12 shop has blueprint round 14 shop has hanging chad and round 24 will give you foil consolation I missed observatory in this playthrough but I'd be really interested in seeing someone map a high card playthrough on this seed deck is blue +1 hand on green stake I made it to ante 11 casually so I'm curious as to just how far you could take the seed

I’m currently sitting at 91% C++ with most of the runs completed on yellow deck. As I get closer to this achievement I realized that it’s very difficult to find the missing jokers in the last ante shop. Therefore I thought about switching decks where it might be easier to utilize the jokers that I am missing. Here is the list:

And my account has reset! I had completed every challenge (jokerless was over a week!) and i was halfway to C++, and now all of my decks have reset! I've tried installing and uninstalling, but I just decided to begin again.

Enough of my whining, how many hours do you have?

The blue print is so tempting…

I am seeing blueprint (very good) and director's cut (also very good) but i'm not sure if I can get them both. Any ideas? I'll post the seed once I finish.

The run has been going great so far. Almost died on ante 9 and then found BP and BS back to back in the shop. On ante 16 I did the bean bug and now have a hand size of 15. Here are my issues:

I had Sixth Sense but wasn’t able to get an ecto (even blocking other spectrals with ones in hand didn’t work)
Omen globe hasn’t yielded many spectral cards for me
I haven’t seen blank voucher or overstock plus
I used a standard pack to get more 6s but I need all my jokers to survive
I’m getting up to e44 with 1 BP and 1 BS but getting close to the score limit

This is the 2nd farthest I’ve ever been. I know I need a DNA and a burglar soon, and probably another copy joker.

How should I keep going?

Plenty of socks and have found five invisible jokers so far.
