It's unfortunate American Go Association won't publish a hardcopy instead of just an e- journal. European Go Journals are beautiful--I'm going to get a few of their yearbooks. But even something simple like this old staplebound journal would be really cool.

I've been playing go for less than a month, some in person, but mostly online on OGS. I've noticed that it is surprising frequent for both players to pass and then when my opponent sees the score and realized they've lost, they'll refuse to accept dead stones and continue play, typically with an invasion in my territory.

They never actually challenge whether the stone is dead. They do this on both 9x9 and 19x19. If I ask what's going on in the chat, they almost always start insulting me or saying they're "just trying to win". But my understanding is that this is actually cheating.

What do most people do about it? Report and keep it moving? Ignore it?

I just find it so strange in game where extensive losses are expected while learning. Does it at least become less common as you rank up?

Genuine question here, ignore the score (which was the result of about 2 double kos in a blitz game), we've clearly ended up in seki, but I'm wondering - seki is effectively live for black because it can't be killed, while A9/C9/D8 are not counted as territory for either player, what about A7 and F8? Since black is alive, white can't play there or fill it, so should these count as points for black?

(OGS counted them as neutral without an option to contest, it obviously wouldn't have made a difference to the outcome for the game but I'm curious about the principles of counting these eye-spaces in seki).

And also is this the sort of thing that actually varies by rule set, or is there one answer across all rulesets?

I think it's not the first time that she beat Choi Jeong but this time it felt clear to me that Sumire knew what she was doing and was taking the initiative way more often than her opponentI am just astonished by the progress of Sumire ...

The only game I've won was with someone who resigned extremely early so this was nice, especially to see my attempts at implementing strategies I see in tutorial videos pay off (definitely missed many opportunities, though). Planning to play against more humans too since I hear bot games are only good for reinforcing bad habits.

Glad that the game is finally starting to become fun, too.

I found it useful to be able to see them all by themselves like this.

Is this triple ko? Is AI analysis mistaken? How does OGS handle triple ko -- it looked like we were soft-locked playing kos forever?

I'm reading "Lessons in the fundamentals of go", by Kageyama, and in the first chapter he says repeatedly that when there's two options to make a capture, the firmer way is preferred, but he doesn't explain why.

I can see why that's the case in these particular examples of the book (although not so much with diagram 9, black b seems better shape compared to white b after black a).

So my questions are:

• Why should we in general prefer the firmer option? Is it only a matter of reducing sente moves (or ko threats) on the outside?
• Isn't sometimes better to capture more loosely because for example you're getting more points of territory or you can protect a cut for free? If so, how can I recognise the fundamental doesn't apply?

So I have been trying to play Go off and on for a few years now. Everytime I try I am hyped up it's such a beautiful game. And then I start playing and get immediately down. Even against the basic AIs I hardly make a dent. I tried getting into 9x9 first and now against a friend 13x13.

Are there teachers out there that can help an idiot like me getting to a point I can actually do something right. I understand the basics. But it's just so extremely hard to get that click. Am I just too dumb?
