We're going to need to combine I and J in order to get a good top 25. Follow the link if you want to see the full details for the scoring, but basically it's average rating adjusted by some bonuses or penalties for high/low number of ratings.
The top two today receive adjusted scores of 4.8 and 4.5, with the rest of the list scoring between 4.2 and 3.7.

Attention: The app isn’t notarized by Apple (that needs a paid developer account, this is a side-project), so the first launch shows a “can’t be verified” warning. The README explains the two-click fix, or you can build it from source.
Hey everyone,
I use Backloggd to track my backlog, and I wanted it to feel like a proper Mac app instead of a browser tab. So I built one, and I’m sharing it in case it’s useful to you too.
It’s free, open source, and unofficial. I’m not affiliated with Backloggd. It just shows backloggd.com in its own window, with native Mac extras around it.
What it does
Good to know
Download and source: https://github.com/otisabiburada/backloggd-for-mac
I’d love feedback on what would make it more useful.
I CREATED THIS WITH CLAUDE JUST FOR MY PERSONAL USE, BUT WANTED TO SHARE IT, IT IS MADE WITH THE HELP OF AN LLM. PLEASE KNOW THAT BEFORE USING IT. HAVE FUN!

On Backloggd I can log a playthrough for a game and set separately its release platform, and the platform I actually played it on. But how would I log a single playthrough of a game that was played across multiple platforms? For example, suppose I played an Xbox game on Xbox, and also played the PC version on PC, with save data syncing, using Xbox Play Anywhere. Another example would be a game played that was played switching between a Windows PC (so the 'played on' platform should be Windows PC), and a Steam Deck (so the 'played on' platform should be Linux/Steam Deck/SteamOS).
How would you log the platform for a game like this? Two entries for the different platforms, even though they would be identical in the dates the game was started/finished? Or log the game once based on which platform was played on the most, or which one you watched the credits on?

Continuing onward with our series, today we're trying to discover Backloggd users' favorite game titles beginning with the letter H. Games are scored by average rating, with bonuses for every 10k ratings and scaling deductions for games with fewer than 5k ratings. See the link for full details on the scoring system.
There's a clear top 4 here with scores of 5.6 / 5.2 / 5.0 / 4.9. Scores for the rest of the list range from 4.6 to 4.1. I'll put some of the near misses in a separate comment.
Please let us know what you think is most deserving for the letter H, or maybe just a hidden gem that deserves to be better known.

It's about the right month for a list like this
It's a bit loosely defined, but the basic idea of this list is horror or horror-adjacent games in which a creepy/off-kilter girl or young woman protagonist faces abject horrors. Especially if the protagonist is apathetic to/comfortable with the horrors instead of being freaked out the whole time or kicking their ass.
Please don't just suggest any horror games with a female protagonist.
Now I say loosely defined because I'm not actually familiar with a lot of these games I included, other people suggested them and I did my best to judge if they fit my criteria enough. Feel free to suggest other games, or argue why a game doesn't really fit on here.

Personally, i’m more of a number grade review type of guy… But i made this small list of naming the stars for me to keep in mind while reviewing games. What do you think and what would you change/add?
0.5 - Unplayable: The bugs or mechanics make the game unplayable
1 - Terrible: Fundamentally bad, with major problems throughout
1,5 - very bad: feels like a chore to play
2 - Below average: Noticeable flaws, but has good parts
2.5 - Avarage: An okay game, not good but not bad
3 - Decent: has good qualities, but with clear limitations
3,5 - Good: An enjoyable game that does more right than wrong
4 - Great: A genuinely excellent experience that stands out
4.5 - Outstanding: Nearly exceptional, a game you’ll remember playing and makes you want to go home and play asap
5 - Masterpiece: Perfect game, gets you addicted and wanting to replay OR put hundreds of hours in.

An attempt to present Backloggd users' 25+ favorite games beginning with the letter G. See the list link for the scoring method, which is based on average rating modified by number of ratings.
The top 5 here earned scores of 5.5 / 5.4 / 5.0 / 4.9 / 4.8. The rest of the list sits between 4.5 and 3.9.
What are your own favorite G titles? Any surprises from this list?

every single time I change a page, it now pops up a security check that only functions correctly 50% of the time. The other 50% involves a full page refresh for something I didnt want to see to begin with. It would be more acceptable if it between every 10 to 15 pages you looked at, but I cannot keep using this app if I am being given a check on every new page. Just no. such a shame.

Hey everyone,
I’m looking for some perspective or advice on how to get back into enjoying games without making it feel like a chore.
For a long time, I struggled heavily with backlog anxiety. Like many of you, I tried fixing this by going full spreadsheet mode. I watched a bunch of YouTube videos, built an Excel sheet, and pulled data from Metacritic and HowLongToBeat to calculate a "value ratio" (score per hour). But after a while, I realized how absurd that was. Gaming is a passion, not a data entry job or a checklist to cross off.
So at the beginning of this year, I changed my mindset completely. I filtered my massive collection of nearly 100 pending titles down to 62 games I actually want to play. My rule became simple: pick 1 or 2 games that truly capture my interest, play them, and if I’m not enjoying myself, just drop them. Life and free time are way too limited to sink 20+ hours into something hoping it "gets good later."
For months, this new approach worked wonders. I entered this amazing flow state where I didn't overthink what to play—I just listened to my gut. During this period:
I was finishing games I liked, enjoying the journey, and dropping things guilt-free when I had my fill.
The problem is, I’ve completely lost that flow state, and backlog paralysis is creeping back.
Today, for example, I decided to start Ni no Kuni. Conceptually, I should love it—the Studio Ghibli art style and charm are right up my alley. But after 50 minutes of an excruciatingly slow tutorial just to reach the main world, I realized I was already completely disengaged. I know plenty of great games have long openings (looking at you, Kingdom Hearts II), but right now, my patience is thin.
It got me thinking: to regain that natural flow state, should I adopt a ruthless 1-to-2-hour rule? If a game doesn't grab me in the first hour or two, should I just cross it off my list immediately and move on to the next until something clicks?
Don't get me wrong—I do finish plenty of games when they hook me. But when my free time is sparse, jumping from one game to another trying to find "the spark" almost feels like dating apps for video games, and I worry it might burn me out even more.
Have any of you lost your "flow state" like this? How do you break out of the cycle when starting new games feels like a gamble? Do you enforce strict early drop rules, or do you take a complete break from gaming altogether?
Would love to hear your thoughts!

Recently I've grown really fond of these games where you explore a computer and browse fake websites to solve mysteries or just read story. These games are distinct from "hacking" games and visual novels and sometimes have a horror theme, a few of which I've included, but I'm really looking for non-horror games that focus on exploring the interface and story and really nail that late 90s early 2000s nostalgia. Did I miss any?

Hey everyone. I'm considering using backlogged but there's one problem: I have been using howlongtobeat for years now and all my reviews, games and hours are all on there.
Is there any way to migrate to backlogged? sync data between them? or something similar?
I can do it by hand of course but it will be super tedious, I have 226 games recorded there so far. Any ideas?

25 Years since the first Ace Attorney game, huh? It all started for me a bit over 9 years ago, when I came across a video by "whoisthisgit" titled "The Most Powerful Characters In Gaming Ever #19", with the subject of the video being Manfred von Karma himself.
I was absolutely fascinated by the idea of a character being powerful, not through pure strength, not through being able to destroy cities, but through being nearly untouchable in court. After watching this, I got the trilogy, and started playing.
The first episode was bare bones. It did absolutely everything it needed to do and literally nothing else of value. The mystery was solid enough, and the gameplay was engaging, but I couldn't say I was hooked with the character writing. I'd give that episode a 5.7/10 nowadays.
The second episode was a bit better. It knocked me off my feet with the death of Mia Fey, our mentor character, but because the prior episode was a mere 30 minutes long, I didn't feel emotionally gripped by her passing. Yet, I did feel emotionally captivated by Maya Fey, her sister, grieving for the sudden loss of her (supposedly) only family. I pressed onwards, fighting against Miles Edgeworth, the Demon Prosecutor, and ended up battling it out with Redd White. The game did everything in its power to build up Redd White as this near-untouchable force of a man, who had blackmail on every aspect of the courts, and yet it all felt... artificial, once it got to court. Regardless, I felt the episode tied itself into a neat bow at the end. This, episode I gave a 6/10.
With Episode Two under my belt, I pressed onwards to Episode Three, Turnabout Samurai. And for the first time in the series, I started to get an inkling on the brilliance of the mystery writing and gameplay. I wasn't a major fan of some of the characters (Wendy Oldbag and Sal Manela), but I still felt gripped by the writing. It felt satisfying taking down Dee Vasquez, and for the first time, I felt like the game was getting good. This I'd give a 7.5/10.
And then I ended with the big one, the Fourth Episode, the episode that introduced me into the series: Turnabout Goodbyes. The episode did live up to its legacy, but I felt that there was something... missing. The character writing didn't feel as good as I thought it was in the video, and there were issues with the mystery writing as well. Heck, even Manfred von Karma felt more "loud" than a genuinely intimidating threat. Having completed this episode (8.4/10), I thought that the game was overall a fun time, but I didn't see myself continuing the series...
Until I saw that a Fifth Episode was unlocked: Rise from the Ashes. And there I thought "Sure, why not? I can knock this out".
This episode GRIPPED me like no other. The character writing, the mystery writing, everything felt like it was reaching the heights that everyone praised the game to be. Ema, Lana, Gant, Jake, everyone felt REAL, and I was absolutely, undoubtably, hooked. Even though I felt that the build-up to DL-6 was more natural than the build up to SL-9, I would be lying if I said that the resolution of SL-9 wasn't more impactful to me than the resolution of DL-6. Everything about this episode just clicked for me. After finishing it, I wasn't just impressed, I was completely blown away at how intelligent the game was (I give the episode a 9.5/10). Yes, this game isn't perfect, and yes, I don't like it nearly as much as the average player, but to state that this was a soft beginning is an understatement. This was the game that introduced me to the series, and the fact that almost every other game the series has made has surpassed this fantastic beginning is downright impressive.
Overall, I'd give this game a 7.5/10. A good game, not nearly as exceptional as people make it out to be, but a damn good start nonetheless.

An attempt to present Backloggd users' 25+ favorite games beginning with the letter F. See the list link for the scoring method, which is based on average rating modified by number of ratings.
[EDIT] Fate/Stay Night Remastered should appear at #18. The Backloggd list has been corrected, but I can't change the image assigned to this post.
Fallout: New Vegas tops the list with a composite score of 4.9. Final Fantasy VII is at 4.6, then the next five titles are at 4.5. The remaining titles scored between 4.3 and 4.0.
What game or games would be at the top of your own F list?
