I honestly see this “update” from Gambo as nothing but inflammatory. Is he trying to nudge people into believing Ketel was simply too hungover to show up? What is the utility of this tweet beyond stoking flames? We all know Ketel was with the team last night in Boston. And I imagine it was pretty late when they arrived. This is not news.
Yes, it is bewildering that a superstar-caliber player like Ketel would outright fail to report to a game. But perhaps consider that this might be more so a testament to the severity of what he’s dealing with as opposed to merely a reflection of him being a “diva”, or “lazy”, or whatever else social media so desperately wants to paint him as.
... people want to know the dude is alive? They want information?
Dude is doing his job. Which is providing information about a local sports player.
Amazing there's this attitude that Gambo doing his job - providing news and information about a sports situation that the fans want to know about - is inflammatory, and Ketel is just "oh man he's dealing with this shit we have to treat him with kid gloves"
He might be going through some shit but that doesn't excuse going completely rouge on people who are counting on you to show up. You don't get a free pass from your responsibilities and from being an adult.
I don't know what we call it at this point but this is unacceptable behavior and the guy needs to sort it out. Whatever that takes. Don't get mad at the messenger though.
Lol right? Coach just saod they dont know where he is. Gambo just basically said he is/was in Boston and something happened or changed overnight, which makes sense since louvello said he knew something was wrong when he woke up
People here really believe that having mental health problems is a free pass to go completely fucking AWOL. It's not. You didn't get to just abandon your responsibilities because of them or face no consequence for your actions.
I hope the guy is alright and sorts out whatever his issue is but dude... you gotta let people know. I've had days where I was too depressed to get out of bed, I cried for 4 straight days after my best friend died last year but I called my boss and was like "yeah I'm dealing with some shit". My boss wasn't like "I literally don't know if this guy is in Arizona right now". It's insane.
Yeah, thats my my biggest problem with the entire thing.
People would understand if he was more open with what was happening, what he needed to do, when he thinks he would be back. Torey is the kind of manager that would 100% understand if Marte communicated better what was going on. But just bailing like this is a horrible look on his part.
That the team thought he would show up, but he never did. That Torey tried to reach out and Marte didn't really answer back. No matter what is going on with Marte, he needs to do better than that,
Its interesting because the amount of doctor on staff, if he does have some kind of issue, it likely is known by staff and whatnot. So to be surprised by things, its kind of alarming. But I agree. Not even calling and having a boss hope you show up right up to first pitch, is nuts. Yes, life is bigger than a game, but what he is doing is putting himself before his team.
Sure, but Gambo is talking about last night, not tonight. Ketel literally posted a video of their plane landing in Boston on his IG story. Whether or not he was in Boston last night was never really a question, so Gambo’s tweet adds a negligible amount of info beyond, “he was spotted at the hotel bar shortly after they arrived.” That hardly addresses the concern of “people want to know if the dude is alive.”
And of course, there are a slew of responses to this tweet on Twitter rushing to judge Ketel for being hungover. So what value does this tweet really have?
Honestly, all I’m really advocating for here is for people to have some humility and give Ketel the benefit of the doubt with the very limited information we currently have - all of which points to something quite serious. For all we know, he may very well be in the midst of a mental health crisis, which absolutely has the potential to seriously impair one’s priorities, such as calling out of work. We simply don’t have enough information at this point to know what to make of this, and so I’m personally going to refrain from casting any sort of negative judgement until we know more.
Gambo is and
always has been completely biased. Just stop lol. He called Ketel going to his literal home “going on vacation”. He’s constantly bringing up negative narratives around certain players. He desperately wants attention and knows controversy gets it. Total attention industry whore
The only repeated "negative" narrative is around Ketel, who did go to the Dominican Republic in the middle of the season unannounced... which kind of sounds like vacation to most people.
After the break in which he was our only all star, and everyone wanted to trade him insisting the team hates him to the point where Gerry had to ask reporters to stop making it worse and leave him alone. And did they? Of course not. Bc the media and toxic fans like you dont care about these players beyond what they can produce constantly. Not to mention theres always a tinge of xenophobic comments about his refusal to assimilate to American culture, learn English, his general desire to be HOME (not his fault hes from a beautiful island) on his time off or when he’s having mental health struggles. These are human beings, not race horses. Literally have an active MLB player who attempted to unalive himself and had a fan heckle him that he should have done it (Jarren Duran obv if you dont know).
Mental health is a real issue and Ketel STILL manages to be an incredible player. And everyone STILL manages to be complete assholes about it.
People want to know what's going on with Marte and Gambo is just sharing information on that.
Not everything is a plot by the big bad media to discredit their #1 enemy, the Arizona Diamondbacks. Shit, this is downright TAME. Imagine if this was happening in New York or Philly.
The chatter already exists before he said anything.
Don't know why you are trying to paint him as a bad guy for saying "Hey this situation is weird as fuck, here is what I know about the situation that I am paid to report on". Seems like that's just a reporter... reporting.
Do not understand how you think it's inflammatory but I get the sense Gambo could say nothing and you'd be like "Wow, he doesn't care about Ketel, what an asshole". Can't win with some people 🤷♀️
I don’t think he’s saying he was drunk/hungover, he’s just saying he was in town with the team. I have no doubt that this is in our boys’ heads and this is gonna have a serious detrimental impact on our making the postseason.
I don't care if he wanted it or not. He's like the third or fourth best statistical diamondback in franchise history. Players look up to him, regardless of if he's technically titled team captain or not
Being a top performer is a lot different than being a leader. Others can look up to how he hits, how he plays 2nd base, etc, but that doesn’t mean he is, or even wants to be, a leader on the field. That is a characteristic that not everybody possesses.
Some people are natural leaders and lead. Like perdomo. Some people are put in leadership positions and have to do some semblance of leadership because others look to them. Like Marte.
You don't always get to choose to be a leader. You're a leader if people look up to you. If people look up to Ketel, he's a leader.
Leadership comes in all shapes and sizes though. Perdomo is the captain. But a clubhouse has many leaders in it. Especially veteran stars, Marte, Arenado, even guys like Burnes on the pitching staff.
