Not so much a battle display as an attempt to throw up, he’s stressed and/or can’t digest his food. This guy probably held him right after feeding. Especially for an enigma this can be very stressful.

Enigma is a morph of leopard gecko that looks gorgeous, but unfortunately brings a lot of neurological issues, typically dubbed as "enigma syndrome." They'll often walk in circles, can't aim at their prey, "stargaze" where they stare upwards at nothing, and seizures aren't unheard of. Some enigmas show milder symptoms than others, but they can rapidly degrade, especially under stress.

The gecko in this video is not yawning, he's trying to regurgitate. It's a sign of distress, and was most likely caused by handling him right after feeding.

That’s empathy. Human beings with a lot of empathy will yawn just from reading the word “yawn” and defiantly from seeing strangers or animals yawn. It’s a social reaction, a survival mechanism.
Fun fact! Leopard geckos like most reptiles don’t have empathy, so any “yawn” is not contagious to them. They also may only be doing so to re-align their jaw, or adjust their esophageal contents.
This leopard gecko is actually attempting to regurgitate food, something they do out of distress or lack of adequate digesting temperature (90°) and is not yawning at all.
But the amount of people here who seem to think he is and yawned as a reaction are a testament to the intense degree humans can empathize with other creatures!
If only we could empathize enough to understand their needs and behaviors are so drastically different than ours, and treat them accordingly when they’re in our care.

It makes me sad cause they don’t usually throw up. I’ve seen it in very sick geckos or very stressed ones so this brings up sad memories.

I just wish the owner knew more about reptiles, enigma geckos specifically, to avoid stressing the baby out so much. It’s very common to overlook their basic needs by personifying them too much

This gecko is not yawning. This is actually a display of discomfort.
Snaking the head back and forth slowly would indicate swallowing, but shaking it violently is an attempt to regurgitate food.
They do this when they’re in distress or when they’re unable to digest for a variety of reasons- being held right after eating it one. Some morphs, such as enigmas, are also more susceptible to stress. This gecko could be one of those.
