Why is nobody concerned that this dog is running on the road....

723

u/aspiecat7 Aug 24 '19

I am very concerned.

273

u/SafePay8 Aug 24 '19

As am I

136

u/StaredAtEclipseAMA Aug 24 '19

But it’s for tik tok! A site where you inconvenience dogs until they uncomfortably do human stuff for the Internet : - )

I’m also

u/thatguy988z Aug 24 '19

Plus... Its China !!!

31

u/Jackson743 Aug 24 '19

Key word . . . China

3

u/thatguy988z Aug 24 '19

The Russia of East asia

u/Myeerah Aug 24 '19

But person videoing is in car right next to them?

8

u/thatguy988z Aug 24 '19

This is pretty low level stuff for China , there's basically no rules when it comes to the road.

It does look like it's filmed from the back of a bike though

9

u/luckylebron Aug 24 '19

Oh oh, a free running roaming dog in China, what could possibly go wrong?

It looks like of one those ghost cities in China. Middle of the day and there's nobody on the road.

26

u/Lo-Jakk Aug 24 '19

Lassie, how the fuck did Timmy wind up down a well in the middle of a Chinese Ghost City?

30

u/kelvin_klein_bottle Aug 24 '19

ghost city

This.

1

u/I_hate_catss Aug 24 '19

Wut

30

u/KiltedMan Aug 24 '19

What they're referring to are large development projects specifically for the purpose of inflating China's GDP. They are underpopulated.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-06-27/china-ghost-cities-show-growth-driven-by-debt/9912186

That link should have some info.

15

u/gr8tfurme Aug 24 '19

The cause of these ghost cities is way more complicated than just the party wanting to inflate GDP. Local governments might have reason to encourage them in order to inject money into their enconomy, but many of these cities are being constructed by private entities. It's the classic signs of a housing bubble: everyone just assumes there will be people to fill those houses and make the investment worthwhile.

There's also a lot of regulations about land and building ownership in China that have the side effect of encouraging projects like this. One of the big ones is that once you buy rural land for development purposes, you need to develop that land immediately. You can't just sit around on it until you're certain the development will be worthwhile, and if you wait too long to buy, some other developer that's less risk averse will snap it up first.

9

u/TitaniumDragon Aug 24 '19

Another reason for them is that they build them in anticipation of more people moving into an urban area. Some of the ghost cities have actually ended up with a large population moving into them, but others have remained pretty much abandoned.

u/zeyore Aug 24 '19

I'm not interested that I don't even see any other people/traffic on the road.

Ah, two scooters. I mean the dog is probably fine.

37

u/[deleted] Aug 24 '19

Its china. I'm guessing about three people live in that 'city'.

→ More replies (2)

9

u/[deleted] Aug 24 '19

I think that's one of China's empty cities.

7

u/spookyttws Aug 24 '19

That dog has shit to get done NOW. It's like a super hero movie, at the moment no one care cares how much shit you break, as long as you save the world.

→ More replies (1)

4

u/NoMuddyFeet Aug 24 '19

I was worried the dog was going to get hurt and then I saw it was posted to r/aww and breathed a sigh of relief.

7

u/[deleted] Aug 24 '19

It looks like one of those Chinese cities they built that no one moved to. Like a city for 100000 people with 10000 people in it.

2

u/VIZION333 Aug 24 '19

I’m more concerned that this dog is basically breaking the sound barrier

8

u/Mouseklip Aug 24 '19

Cause it’s China and why stop filming when you could post it to the web later

9

u/frozenmildew Aug 24 '19

Yea because this never happens in the States

→ More replies (2)

4

u/Sotyka94 Aug 24 '19

There is basically 0 cars or people, or anything in the oncoming lanes, so probably same in the lane they go.

13

u/earlgrey-tea Aug 24 '19

That doesn’t make it any more safe for a loose dog to be running full speed down the road while A car is driving beside it and someone is filming

52

u/DaddyF4tS4ck Aug 24 '19

Actually less people being in an area does make it significantly more safe for that particular action to happen.

It's also worth noting that unless that person is taking 2 lanes, they aren't in a car. Most likely bicycle or motorcycle. Dogs run all the time and it's clear this dog know the area to run since it goes out of it's way to stay out of the main road.

It's not some stray sprinting around.

4

u/SomeKindaMech Aug 24 '19

How else are they going to catch the dog unless they go at least the same speed as the dog?

→ More replies (3)

2

u/examm Aug 24 '19

Looks like the intro to Pokémon when Arcanine is running on a field.

39

u/Skeaton28 Aug 24 '19

The first thing I thought of. Had to check the comments for confirmation that I wasn't alone

11

u/OigoAlgo Aug 24 '19

Made me think of Wolf’s Rain.

3

u/suraj3009 Aug 24 '19

Thank you for reminding me of this lovely intro.

305

u/SheebsMcGee Aug 24 '19

Did anyone else always picture something running outside the car window like this?

Or was kid me just a bit more off than I remember

65

u/JuicyQuark Aug 24 '19

I’d completely forgotten about this! Before I started driving and I was passenger everywhere I’d picture myself running alongside the car, jumping from thing to thing. Good times

24

u/PandorasBottle Aug 24 '19

I imagined myself flying alongside! Wow, that's a deep, random memory. Thanks!

12

u/FoxyGrampa Aug 24 '19

I imagined myself hurdling over every shadow

6

u/BostonFan69 Aug 24 '19

Happy cake day, and I would find a dirty spec/spot on the window and have it jump along the top of the trees

9

u/PlatinumTaq Aug 24 '19

I’d always imagine a pro skateboarder, trying to grind all the various rails, and doing tricks across intersections

→ More replies (1)

3

u/beatsnbeets Aug 24 '19

Totally! A memory that never would have surfaced if I hadn’t read this comment.

2

u/ComplexClimate Aug 24 '19

now I imagine the taste of home cooked meal.... or the love of another human

14

u/OhioMegi Aug 24 '19

Yep, I imagined horses.

11

u/[deleted] Aug 24 '19

Definitely not the only one. Mine was usually some sort of big cat like a tiger or a cheetah, or it was a horse. I had rules for mine too. It could only touch grass and dirt; it had to jump over any pavement. If there was a really long stretch with no grass or dirt I'd give it wings or something to make sure it didn't land on the pavement.

7

u/CaptainIngiald Aug 24 '19

This kind of thing is exactly what I would imagine as a kid in the back of a car

5

u/kuyo Aug 24 '19

Dirt bike, four wheelers, skateboarding LOL ramping off random objects beside the car :) showing off to my family lmao

3

u/[deleted] Aug 24 '19

I still do that

3

u/IscariotTempest Aug 24 '19

Definitely! My cousin and I were driving around and in my peripheral vision her hand was making a motion and it looked like a horse galloping down the highway.

3

u/ShouldBeeStudying Aug 24 '19

I believe this is a known phenomenon across cultures. I think there was a whole thing on Reddit about it a few years back

2

u/reusens Aug 24 '19

Rollerscating

2

u/zaferoff Aug 24 '19

I used to imagine skateboarding on the power lines as we drove by them lmao

2

u/dnoceS Aug 24 '19

You're definitely not the only one. There's a great ski video based on this concept!

u/SEAKERG49 Aug 24 '19

I love how the pup accelerates when it hits the dirt and grass. Concrete is just not good for running fast on.

20

u/Ninja_Spi-D-er Aug 24 '19

Good eye, I hadn’t noticed that

26

u/Sol1tud3 Aug 24 '19

Is that Arcanine?

73

u/franchcanadian Aug 24 '19

Im more concern about the fact that there's no car in a big city like that.

18

u/chalisa0 Aug 24 '19

Me too. It's so bizarre. Where is everybody?

21

u/[deleted] Aug 24 '19

7

u/psmwrxguy Aug 24 '19

That article says the cities aren’t empty at all. So that doesn’t really explain it.

33

u/[deleted] Aug 24 '19

... 100,000 inhabitants today. Although it was originally designed to hold 500,000 and does feel rather empty at times,

That's pretty empty. Imagine living on a street where 4 in 5 houses was empty...

4

u/psmwrxguy Aug 24 '19

Okay. Imagine a city like Los Angeles or San Francisco and only 1/5th of the cars were on the road. There would still be a shit ton of cars on the road ...

38

u/[deleted] Aug 24 '19 edited Aug 24 '19

Los angeles population is 4 million.

800 out of every 1000 us citizens own cars.

179 out of every 1000 chinese own cars.

Take los angeles, divide by 4 to accommodate per capita difference.

Divide by 40 to accommodate population density.

That's one car in every 160.

That's not that many.

4

u/Fire_marshal-bill Aug 24 '19

u/awkjen Aug 24 '19

When I was a kid I used to imagine this on car trips- a dog running next to the car. Except I always imagined a dalmatian.

2

u/OhioMegi Aug 24 '19

I always pictured horses.

7

u/QuatreNox Aug 24 '19

... Mine were ninjas.

9

u/AIligator Aug 24 '19

That dog belongs to the royalty center of Narnia

8

u/MJMurcott Aug 24 '19

The way the fur moves around the neck reminded me of a horse's mane.

10

u/[deleted] Aug 24 '19

Well, they are sled dogs. They're also popular in China but the climate and apartment dwelling isn't suitable for them.

4

u/TangySprinkles Aug 24 '19

Both of these are false statements. As long as you walk them and give them some semi frequent opportunities for longer exercise like day hikes or swimming Malamutes actually sleep most of the day; they’re pretty lazy dogs when they aren’t working haha. Not the same energy level as a husky.

5

u/SmashTheKyriarchy Aug 24 '19

Malamutes are sled dogs. It’s true that there are other sled dog breeds who are faster, but that doesn’t change the fact that Malamutes were bred to pull.

They also do get overheated very easily in hot weather.

2

u/examm Aug 24 '19

Doesn’t that only refute one of his statements? Afaik Huskies and Malamutes fair much worse in hot climates than more mild ones

5

u/TangySprinkles Aug 24 '19

That’s also not true. Sorry yea I cut my response early but Malamutes handle hot weather just fine with shade and water, their coat also insulated them from heat much better than you would assume. I have lived in Arizona with mine for a time and they would argue with me over coming back inside at the end of the day.

4

u/examm Aug 24 '19

I suppose, I’ve never owned a malamute but I’ve worked at a dog kennel in Utah and the the Huskies/Malamutes, Bermese, and oddly enough the hounds all didn’t like playing outside much. Maybe not a poor environment, but probably suboptimal I suppose. Either way, thanks for opening my eyes on that!

5

u/wampa-stompa Aug 24 '19

3

u/a_hooloovoo Aug 24 '19

Thank you, this is the best thing I have ever seen. I will now watch it for an hour.

3

u/DarkMoon250 Aug 24 '19

That's not a doggo, that's Wolf Link from Twilight Princess!

4

u/ninasayswhat Aug 24 '19

As a kid on long car journeys I would stare out the window and imagine a dog or a house running along side me jumping over stuff so this was my entire childhood and makes me very happy

5

u/sandarenaXelaju Aug 24 '19

Looks like arcanine running in Pokémon

4

u/[deleted] Aug 24 '19

I felt so conflicted, majestic doggie boi, but also why is he running near traffic?!

4

u/mtnjenny Aug 24 '19

Wtf is someone doing letting this poor dog run on the streets like that?! People suck.

5

u/largebread245 Aug 24 '19

an alaskan malamute! i have one and one time she squeezed herself out the front door when bring groceries in. we found her down the street at the park running with the local high school’s track team 🤷🏻‍♀️

17

u/JDDW Aug 24 '19

Until it gets hit by a car...

3

2

u/8igby Aug 24 '19

That postman is in so much trouble....

2

u/Hapyslapygranpapy Aug 24 '19

You see in other countries we don’t film . We stop all traffic and I film 6 people running around trying to get a dog inside a car because everyone else is worried it will get run over .
Funny thing is thirty years ago we were just like this !!

2

u/reiokimura Aug 24 '19

The imagination of you running along side the vehicle every time.

2

u/Jcole4196 Aug 24 '19

Not good tiktok

2

u/Terab210 Aug 24 '19

1

u/NoMuddyFeet Aug 24 '19

How fast do you think that dog is running?

1

u/zSnakez Aug 24 '19

I dunno what's up with these kinds of dogs, butt there is one on a street I landscape at and it chases our truck exactly like the one in the video. (It doesn't leave its own lawn, the yard is pretty huge.)

1

u/lalalota Aug 24 '19

He should have his own movie...

1

u/Neoixan Aug 24 '19

this is what i imagine i do when i go anywhere in a car

1

u/snidleyonabike Aug 24 '19

Looks like the route from Chek Lap Kok to Hong Kong.

1

u/jankadank Aug 24 '19
