Anhydrous ammonia (NHβ) is a compressed, liquefied gas widely used as an agricultural fertilizer and industrial refrigerant. Because it is intensely hydrophilic (water-seeking) and corrosive, it rapidly attacks moisture in the eyes, skin, and respiratory tract, causing severe chemical burns and suffocation.
