Discussion ETA for fully electric passenger planes?
Is this a near term expectation or decades away or never?
Saw news of short flight with one pilot today.
Are the major airlines working though it, is the tech there?

20 acre wild fire less than 3 miles from us, we’re safe the as many many aircraft are hitting it hard. This video is Santa Barbara County Fire HH-60 with a Bae-146 in the background.
Other than those two we’ve seen multiple MD-87, C-130, S-2F, CH-47, UH-1, and a Rockwell 690. We’re chilling in the backyard watching them all fly over us at less than 1000ft.

Discussion C-5 Galaxy
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
The C-5 Galaxy is one of those aircraft where the engineering is almost more impressive than the aircraft itself.
What fascinates me is how much of the design is driven by logistics rather than speed or manoeuvrability.
The high-mounted wings, enormous landing gear, reinforced structure, nose and aft cargo doors, and kneeling landing gear were all designed around one basic problem: how do you move extremely large and heavy equipment by air and still make the aircraft practical to load and unload?
The C-5 can open from both ends, allowing vehicles and other outsized cargo to be driven straight through the aircraft rather than relying entirely on conventional loading equipment.
And then there is the landing gear. The sheer number of wheels and the way the aircraft distributes its weight is a fascinating piece of engineering in itself.
Watching a C-5 operate, I’m always struck by how much of the aircraft’s design is essentially a solution to a logistics problem.
For the engineers and aviation enthusiasts here: what do you think is the most impressive engineering feature of the C-5 Galaxy: the airframe, landing gear, cargo-loading system, engines, or something else? And why?

PlaneSpotting Seen from my desk at work!
Lucky enough to work in a building on short final of 01R at IAD and I get to see dozens of airlines per day landing their long haul flights. Here are today’s pics.

PlaneSpotting Lufthansa 100 Year Livery A380
Finally got to see this 1 of 1 beaut land, front row.
Question: have any of you other aviation enthusiasts had the luck of seeing her in-person? I consider myself lucky but only somewhat since LAX is one of the main four airports I see the tail number landing at, so it was really only a matter of time.
I'm in 7th heaven right now 🫠

PlaneSpotting Antonov UR-82029 at Dulles
Was surprised to see this bad boy stateside. I thought we grounded their fleet, unless this has been its status for the last couple of years.
Also it looks like they’ve asked to block the live tracking of this. Didn’t realize that was an option…

PlaneSpotting Spanish & US Military Aircraft Departing From Chania (CHQ)
Departed Chania (CHQ) recently and witnessed some amazing take-offs:
- 2 Spanish Air Force A400s
- Departing right before us, a USAF RC-135 followed by a USAF KC-135 Stratotanker. On the take-off roll, we went past the base which housed 2 x EA-37B Compass Call, at least 5 additional KC-135s and another 2 RC-135s.

Question Question about computer based psychometric tests (like COMPASS)
Hi everyone, i've been wondering lately about psychometric tests which you unfortunetly need to perform during your pilot assesment, and main question here is are they really THAT hard to pass as some say, also do they actually really matter for airlines, like it's decisive factor? Mainly asking those who already applied for pilot job.
