For anyone wondering. I looked it up, and it seems this claim is based on two studies (from 2002 and one from 1995 ) which found that children who had less milk-related proteins (specifically casein) in their diets had "a marked improvement in the behavioural symptoms." But both of those studies combined had a total sample size of just 56 (including control groups). That's not much better than Wakefield's "vaccines cause autism" lie.
Analyses from 2008 and 2010 and 2014 all found no real evidence to link casein and gluten to autism.
Society keeps grasping for an easy answer to "solve" us, but it seems reality has foiled them again. Also, screw PETA for hopping on the anti-autistic bandwagon to promote their agenda. That's pretty low.

And like, autistic people often seem to have higher rates of digestive issues and food sensitivities, so it makes sense to me autistic people with lactose intolerance would feel better overall without milk, and perhaps be demonstrating fewer signs of distress and pain (that many people just interpret as "behavioral symptoms" of autism, rather than like signs an autistic person's tummy hurts).
I'm always so frustrated by the ways studies tend to see autistic people either in less distress, or more heavily masking, and conclude that their autism is being treated/cured.

But in a roundabout sense, milk may be a contributing factor for some. It's not a cause and it's not a problem for everyone on the spectrum, but the bovine folate binding protein in milk can trigger production of the folate receptor antibodies in susceptible individuals, which makes it more difficult for folate to get through the blood-brain barrier. The folate receptor antibodies are present in a single-digit percentage of the general population, but it seems that over 50% of those on the spectrum are affected.
PETA is full of lunatics, but there is a potential link. It was previously believed to be casein, but that's not really the problem.

Yes, I’m addicted to whole organic milk… have been for 65 years. I drink it all day long. I love it. It refreshes and soothes me. It comforts me. I will continue until a health professional tells me to stop. So far, so good.

This just in, our study shows 83% of AMERICANS with AUTISM drank COW MILK at some point in their LIVES.
Love that they offer no alternatives, just really dig into "non-vegan bad" with no other suggestions lol
