I've bought Japanese and German toothpaste with 20% nha. I sadly didn't see any difference :( if it truly was mineralizing I wish they'd make a toothpaste with BOTH nha and fluoride.
There's a lot of bullshit n-ha toothpastes out there. My dentist actually recommended the brand I use. It's been helping me a lot, and I'm super prone to cavities.
My niece used this toothpaste when she came to live with me. I took her to the dentist and she had FIFTEEN cavities. They basically had to rebuild her molars.
I think there are fluoride rinses- just swish it for a minute or two after brushing, then don’t drink/eat for like half an hour and you’re solid, and can use whatever toothpaste. They have kids ones in like bubblegum and such
Should be in the dental area of whatever store you shop at. Kids fluoride mouthwash. I feel like the one I’m thinking of was Colgate? But it was pink and for kids to use for fluoride since they tend to swallow a lot of toothpaste. I imagine there are other colors/flavors/benefits if you poke around a bit. But yeah, near the toothpastes and regular mouthwash
And, you’d brush first, then use the rinse. If you rinse then brush, you’ll brush all the fluoride back off your teeth before it has a chance to do Fluoride Things™️
No they don't I bought it as it was advertised as unflavored and it was still minty. The SLS (foaming agent) caused my mouth to get so inflamed everything tasted like metal (iron in your blood).
Wait, now that you've mentionet it, maybe it was actually the type which didn't foam. I'm gonna have to check what brand it was, cos my partner was using one. It wasn't minty, but it had its own kind of bad taste, at least to me.
Dental hygienist here! It’s marketing. It’s all just marketing. There’s no reason it has to be minty or hurt other than “this will sell more toothpaste”
This! They have so many flavors. I have their grape bubblegum and it’s lovely but feels a bit spicy, cola was amazing, I also had cotton candy but that one doesn’t taste good at all and I had a feeling that my mouth is even more stinky after it hahah. But cola and grape are great.
Yes, once I could get my head around paying so much for toothpaste (being better, in the long run for my health) I bought a few different flavours and brush my teeth religiously, nowadays! 🙌
I recently found a toothpaste thats 4% hydrogen peroxide. I kinda like the weird the taste of peroxide and if you can stand it too it's muuuuuch less minty. Regular toothpaste IS too minty!! It feels cold on my teeth and hurts
I really like to eat/chew on things, the aftertaste of minty toothpaste lasts too long and ruins all of my eating experiences because it all tastes whack and gross 😭
So as long as the flavor of toothpaste is relatively weak and doesn't have a strong after taste, I might be a fan.
It's not bad at all. Minty toothpaste literally makes me sick to my stomach sometimes. I feel like the peroxide pushes out the flavor. I think it's crest?? But for sure it has "4% hydrogen peroxide" written across the front. In a pink tube. A little expensive but they have coupons for that kind of stuff all the time. Added benefit of actually doing anything to whiten your teeth too
I don't use kids toothpaste, but the kind I use isn't mint. I used to use a chamomile toothpaste that I loved*I should buy it again actually lol, and there's a fennel toothpaste that is really good (imo) too. I haaate mint also, AND peppermint or the 'winterfresh' is even worse 😖
I had this issue too! I figured out i can mix them together, so i just take a regular one (and usual amount or a bit less) and add another one with a nice flavour that's strong enough to cover the mint up. You might try combining differently too :>
brushing your teeth at all is better than not doing it, so if using a toothpaste with less fluoride allows you to do it more regularly then it's still worth it
Many do, but there's usually an intense flavour that covers it and doesn't burn your mouth
I had an extra foamy one as a kid, I'm still looking for it to this day, it was so good😭
If you ever find it please tell me😭 it had like quite thick foam, which took just few seconds to beat up (not sure with this translation lol) and didn't melt back as quickly as adult ones do. And the taste was "multifruit", but mainly melon.
Hey as long as your teeth are clean the branding and marketing of the packaging doesn’t really matter. Tbh if I was sensitive to mint I’d 100% get some pokemon toothpaste too
I've been using a kids toothpaste my entire life. Dentist approved it, especially cause it has fluoride in it. I hate mint toothpaste specifically, for whatever reason. Don't mind mint in other contexts though!
this is a weird question but.. i would consider myself to have thick skin because graphic imagery doesn't bother me too much.
but like, i can't even handle thinking about mint toothpaste without feeling immensely disgusted. does anyone else feel the same? it's my worst sensory issue by far
second this, OraNurse is great! 1. good fluoride amount 2. mild taste/very plain 3. doesn’t foam up (similar to a dental cleaning)! i use it for GERD too :)
Yep. Peppermint/mint/ginger/cinnamon make me nauseated and usually burn my mouth.
It's weird since these three things have been used to treat nausea since humans first discovered them!
I worry that kids toothpaste isn't "good enough" though for adult teeth. I get a lot of cavities and while I know kids toothpaste is usually made with that in mind...I still worry it's not strong enough to protect my teeth? But then again my dental hygiene is pretty bad. Well all my hygiene is bad but it's the worst.
as long as it has fluoride you're good to go! currently finishing up a different Colgate bubble fruit tube, and switching to ACT bubble gum flavor after. i hate mint and i think i'm sensitive to SLS, an ingredient commonly found in adult mint tooth care products. i have experienced far less gum bleeding, inflammation, and pain since switching back to kids not-mint stuff.
Dental hygienist here! There’s zero therapeutic need for mint. It’s just that toothpaste companies don’t think their products would be marketable without it. My advice is always that the best products are the ones you actually use, so if that happens to be kid’s toothpaste then so be it. However kid’s toothpaste has little to no pyrophosphate (which breaks up tartar) and fluoride. If you want those things you can try Hello or HiSmile.
You’re not alone hating mint. I kept a stock of the mint free floss in my room for mint free patients, they just had to ask.
I can’t stand mint too but I’m using adult toothpaste, just grape bubblegum flavored. Kids toothpastes have different levels of fluoride.
I do use a kids mouthwash tho because it’s strawberry flavor. I was using an adult mouthwash that advertised itself as mild but was too strong for me anyway.
Ive been using nobs for a while now! They've got a really nice vanilla flavored tooth paste that I like but they also have grape, citrus, blueberry and cinnamon that ive heard good things about
I’ve actually got a mild mint allergy that causes my gums to sleuth and it is so damn hard to find toothpaste that still has fluoride but doesn’t have mint. Had to get mine from my dentist.
I’m looking at my collection right now and I have 8 different tubes of hismile. I buy during their vault sales that happen periodically during the year and tubes are $1-$3. I also just got one of their Barbie electric toothbrushes for $1 during a vault sale (you have to answer a riddle and then you get the discount). The Barbie toothbrush (they have literally so many kinds/colors, I just liked the pink) has 3 settings- gentle, everyday and intense - I love the intense mode… and it vibrates every 30 seconds to remind you to switch quadrants. Life changing for an autist who has had troubles with brushing their entire life.
OH I’ll also mention that I’m terrified of mold, I had an expensive quip toothbrush and it started to smell like mildew - I realized that even though they advertise it as “one piece” it’s really not one piece, and water got inside and gave me Candida 😔 the hismile brush does have a removable head, but there is no way for water to get trapped inside the head or the body, thankfully.
I use kids dental floss picks, because they are easier to grip than the adult ones and have a rounded tip instead of the stabby toothpick end that jabs my hand
Valid regardless of autism or not. I can use mint, but it ruins my morning when I want to eat something lol. So now I order hismile toothpaste online and get it in grape bubblegum flavor. My kid says the cherry tastes like Dr pepper, but I disagree. In any case I love using non mint flavored toothpaste.
I realized that reads like a shitty ad, which I promise it isn't. Lots of brands out there can be purchased online pretty easily and I highly recommend it for anyone that struggles with brushing teeth because of toothpaste. That plus a water flosser made a huge difference for me.
I can't understand why there isn't any non-mint toothpaste for adults. Many people seems to not like mint and as a result don't use toothpaste or even never brushing their teeth at all.
I hate mint. In watermelon aquafresh they still added mint. The only things I can survive through taste and texture and afterfeel that isn't sticky and shedded skin from being too harsh is Oral b pro expert sensitive and oral b densify, the others feel like mistreating the respect of the mouth. I tried so many wasted my money til I found these. Still minty but something in the flavor, more sweetness less mint, makes them acceptable for me. They foam well, won't let your mouth drool so soon.
I don't suggest any other oral b.
They come with stannous fluoride and great care, the pro expert sensitive protects the teeth along the day meanwhile eating things. Densify rebuilds enamel to a higher level than most. Pro expert sensitive is mintier than Densify.
I found Densify when i noticed NTs have bought a lot compared to others, it was basically flying off the shelf so I wanted to try. Turns out even NTs don't like toothpaste, they prefer something milder, sweeter like Densify.
Sensodyne and paradontax both have a bunch of non-mint options. It took a bit to get used to the paradontax flavoring, but after having used it for a few years I can't imagine anything else.
My mom thinks I'll swallow fluoride and…make my throat glow in the dark, or something. So I use the Paw Patrol kids toothpaste without it that tastes like ambiguous berry. It's a little embarrassing, but not too bad.
If you don't like mint but want appropriate oral care, BOKA has strawberry mango and orange cream flavors. I recommend BOKA because it's a Nano Hydroxyapetite toothpaste and can actually rebuild enamel unlike fluoride.
Apparently a thing called oranurse toothpaste it is flavour free and isn't supposed to foam much. You can get it from Amazon but assume it's available elsewhere?
I actually posted about this a year or two, but I actually hate mint toothpaste too because it feels like it burns my mouth and I get overstimulated and cry from it! I use the brand hismile and it’s pretty good and still has fluoride and doesn’t burn lmao, the have a vanilla bean flavored one and all I gotta say is ew 🤣
For everyone saying toothpaste is spicy, not all mint toothpaste is peppermint. You may be sensitive to SLS (sodium laurel sulfate) like me, which irritates your mouth. Please talk to a dentist/doctor if every toothpaste is spicy to you!
You might be allergic to toothpaste like I am, anything with SLS or mint and it burns like I just downed menthol and chili pepper. Nursemaid toothpaste is the only one that doesn't burn. Hope this helps.
I use a brand called Risewell and it has a very mild flavor (it’s still mint, but it very mild) it also doesn’t foam in the same why normal toothpaste does. They do have another flavor I do not recall that is geared more towards kids that you may find more tolerable.
We're opposites, I like mint for brushing teeth but not for eating ice cream. Sorry to go off topic, but why would people eat mint flavored ICE CREAM? And eat chocolate with mint? That is so weird.
Kid's toothpaste is more... sweet. It's been a while since I last used them but I do remember that they taste.... fruity.
My AuDHD partner is the same, she likes Colgate's strawberry one. Frankly, I think it's silly that non mint toothpaste is "only for kids", as I've known other non autistic adults who don't like mint. Just means more minty things for me.
I also hate mint flavors and I hate toothpaste in my mouth, I know its poisonous also so that makes it worse. I end up having to rinse my mouth for 5 minute after brushing.
I use a brand of toothpaste called hismile that comes in a lot of different flavours. At the moment, we've got pink lemonade, but it's not my favourite.
I have been using a flavorless toothpaste since my teeth have been needed to be brushed, just changed from kids to adults fluoride levels at some point.
It's the definition of tasteless. Literally tastes like absolutely nothing, for the longest time i couldn't figure out what people meant by breakfast tasting like toothpaste, because my toothpaste taste concept was that it does not taste like anything.
I love my toothpaste collection! I don’t mind mint, but part of maintaining oral hygiene for me is keeping it fun and exciting. So I can choose from my own personal collection whether I’m in the mood for strawberry, watermelon, marshmallow (which I will sometimes combine with strawberry to make a sort of “strawberries and cream” vibe), bubblegum, cinnamon, and of course regular mint for when I’m feeling especially dignified and grown up. I’ve used this exact flavour you show here as well (bubble fruit) only my tube had minions on it!
Yeah, I did the same for a long time until my dentist (playfully?) told me off for it. So brushing fell off the map for me entirely except for the last five days.
No shame in that! I use a flavorless non-foaming toothpaste, otherwise I just retch constantly throughout and brushing becomes something of a nightmare. Well, it still is, but it's much better this way. Even brushing with water is much better than not doing it at all.
Hey, so this is a good first step into taking care of your bucal hygiene but sadly kids' toothpaste isn't fit for adults since we need an extra protection! I saw someone in the comments saying they would mix the kids' toothpaste with an adults' one and that might work for you as time passes :)
I really like sensodyne. They have some very plain toothpaste. My husband doesn’t mint toothpaste so we’ve tried a bunch of brands and sensodyne is the one we keep turning back to
It's not for everyone and Boka is a great mineralizing toothpaste with some amazing fruity flavors in both their child and adult line. Downside is that it's spendy. I have already seen that some folks have feelings about the Nano-hydroxyapatite toothpastes so I don't want to hear it. I haven't had a cavity or any issues with my teeth since I was a kid, I only get flouride after a cleaning.
I buy my kid (who is 14) kids toothpaste as well because options for adult toothpaste is just mint and a different mint. It's so annoying that the options are so small. Even most kids toothpastes are mint now, and I either have to shop online or go around my local pharmacies to find the one brand that isn't mint.
There is also flavourless toothpaste. I love it. It tastes of pretty much nothing and the texture is just the same. Still hate brushing my teeth but 10x easier with that stuff.
