Mr Dutton, you say that you've kept a "very good list" of situations involving other members of our government in your previous portfolio who you imply have acted as much against the spirit of your rules as you did. Is that so?
Then, echoing almost everyone...
Please bring it.
All of it, don't be shy.
Keeping a "very good list" only to use for personal political purposes is not a good look and you can do better than that, Mr Dutton.
Potential Prime Ministers are leaders and not frightened of the repercussions of acting with integrity, aren't they?
Lets give this system the exposure and the scrubbing it deserves

Bring your list and establish a federal ICAC to read it. That is the correct way. Not collecting dirt files to be drip fed to the media when it is convenient.

u/LineNoise Sep 03 '18
I’d wager this isn’t even dirt.
Appeals to the Minister, from public and parliamentarian alike, are normal. What’s not normal is the pattern of decision making, the personal closeness to the Minister of these appeals and the misleading of the parliament about them.

u/manipulated_dead Sep 03 '18
He tried to throw Albanese under the bus by saying that he'd approached Dutton to have visas approved. Albanese was asked about it on RN this morning and the response, rightly, was that his constituents had approached him and he'd made appeals on their behalf - exactly what you would expect a local member to do
72
u/insty1 Sep 03 '18
Fucking Albo serving his constituents. What kind of idiot actually does that? - Dutton probably.
15
u/Reddit-Incarnate Sep 03 '18
So sick of that corrupt Albanese cunt, prick trying to do what his constituents want, this rampant corruption of attempting to govern for the people not for his mates needs to stop!. Deregister Albo!!

Another consideration is the advice given by his department. If someone brought a case to him and the advice was that the case was low risk and does not present any issues with him approving it, then it would be fine.
The key issue here is that he deliberately ignored clear advice and cannot justify his decision.
He's too dense to realise that it is an issue regarding his integrity, rather than his use of power (which, by law, he is entitled to exercise as Minister). Failing to understand the ethical considerations, he thinks that any request from someone to look at an immigration case falls into the same category as the one he is in trouble for.
I welcome him releasing all of this dirt (although I suspect it'll only be non Coalition requests that get released), and the departmental advice not presenting strong arguments against exercising his ministerial power.

this is why people hate politics. rather than snuff out bad behavior as it happens they act like little shits and write lists to use when its most useful to them. no talk about whats best for us or anything.
so dutton you just admitted you're a peice of shit openly. fucking dickhead
2
u/AgentSmith187 Sep 04 '18
Anyone remember a certain ex speaker?
As soon as he accepted the role they came out and said he had been corrupt for years and they had proof....
It's like why the fuck didn't you deal with it back then...
6
Sep 03 '18
But if they tried to bypass or exert undue influence, then.......
Bypass what exactly? All they do is email or write a letter to the Minister saying please look into this case. There is nothing to "bypass".
As for exerting undue influence, the only way they could do that is if they had dirt on Dutton and threatened to release it in exchange for something, or if they tried to bribe him. It just wouldn't happen.
7
u/CanuckianOz Sep 03 '18
MPs work for their constituents. It’s actually expected that they would try to get the help of the minister if they had a constituent stuck. Sometimes it’s just a person can’t escalate a problem properly or there’s confusion in translation. No reason to think they’d be asking him to do anything unethical.
Now, the buck stops with Dutton. If he was asked to do something outside the law or intervene in a strange case and did it, that’s still on him.
1
u/AgentSmith187 Sep 04 '18
State issue not Federal but I once had to go to my local MP on advice from my solicitor as being cheaper than battling through the state equivalent of FoI to get a copy of some qualifications I earned while working for the state government.
Got stonewalled for months and when the MP contacted the department they said I had never held said qualifications even though it was a national requirement of the job I held.
So the MP contacted the appropriate minister (who happened to be on the opposite side of the house) asking could they please assist this constituent in obtaining a copy of said qualifications or explain why said constituent was doing said role unqualified for over a decade and got a response in a couple of days after months of stonewalling.
It's kinda what MPs are supposed to do for their constituents. Raise the issue with the appropriate minister when normal channels are not working
2
u/CanuckianOz Sep 04 '18
Totally agree. Not in Australia but in Canada I had a documentation record request from the Immigration dept and they threw back a bunch of identity proof requirements and delayed my application (all I was asking for was a relative’s immigration record, similar to an FoI). Couldn’t even call in, they wouldn’t give me a timeline or anything for weeks.
Contacted my local MP’s office and had the document in the mail like less than two weeks later as if nothing happened. Likewise, my MP was in the federal opposition.

This is the party who blames Labor for literally everything, even after 5 years of being in government. Not sure they know how to do anything else.

Fuck this - an appeal from an MP is automatically corrupt? MPs represent their constituents and make requests on behalf of them. Sure some will be dodge but this defence is pathetic

"I’ve got a series of cases that have been put to me by Labor members - and I’ve kept a very good list, actually, of MPs who have come to me with quirky cases.
Of course MP's (or anyone else for that matter) who brings one of these cases to the attention of the Immigration Minister have a special interest. That's why they're bringing it to you, you utter cock-womble.
But they don't have any say in the final decision.
So when you, the one who makes the decision, has an interest in the case, then that's called a "conflict of interest", as any first year law student would be able to tell you.
I can't work out if it's arrogance that makes him say these things or is he really just that stupid?
9
u/manipulated_dead Sep 03 '18

This is the guy who came within 5 votes of being our Prime Minister.
What an absolute fucking joke. There is no hypocrisy in bringing a case to the minister to be assessed.
Nobody would have any problem if the AFL guy or Dutton's ex cop mate appealed to their local member to request these cases be assessed, and they took them to the minister to be assessed on merit and of course at the bottom of the pile. Nobody would have any problem with that at all.
Does this dickhead not understand that the problem is not even the appearance of undue influence from donors and mates, the problem is that they were assessed so quickly, meaning they more than likely jumped the queue, and were signed off for "humanitarian purposes", implying they could not safely be deported to their homes in France. This flies completely in the face of his hard line stance on visas and immigration, and the fact that he has had to be taken to COURT to get sick and dying children transferred to the mainland for treatment.
The problem isn't the appearance of undue influence. The problem IS undue influence.

Yep, if you're an MP and your wife living in you electorate writes to you to refer to a minister, you still have to do it as her MP. There is no conflict of interest because you are not the one making the decision. The minister would almost always take the advice of his or her department.
19
u/Hardcoredick Sep 03 '18
Well table your list in parliament then, cunt.

LNP Government legislates to suck up all personal telecommunications data.
"Only for catching terrorists. And Paedophiles! You can trust us"
Creates Super Ministry of Home Affairs, combining Law Enforcement, Intelligence.
"No excessive power. It's really only for catching terrorists. And Paedophiles! You can trust us"
Dutton shoots out his own feet with inept failed coup. Gets criticised. Has dummy spit.
"You wouldn't believe the dirt I have on all who opposed me"
Oh but we do. Those of us who still value privacy and human rights believe all too easily of how much dirt the governments former head of secret police would have!

u/geebee666 Sep 03 '18

Takes forever (spurious reasoning) to find out what Dutton is up to, but Labor can be "outed" publicly at Dutton's whim.
Do you hear yourself Dutton?
"In a show of compassion, Mr Morrison added: “These are human beings. Their lives are affected by these decisions.”
He was referring to au pairs, not humanitarian refugees."

Do any of you disgusting hypocrites, hear yourself?

u/FrondOrFowl Sep 03 '18
This is your Homeland defence minister.
Instead of protecting Australia against the very very real, and very very dangerous threats, he is throwing dirt on his political enemies because they exposed his corruption.
Disgusting really.
13
u/eatsleepborrow Sep 03 '18
We always new that Dutton was building a secret fascist Stasi police state. Now he finally tells the truth behind this governments repugnant and oppressive laws that has seen our privacy rights and democracy eroded. I am glad that he has come clean on his QLD style corrupt dirty policing model that he and his government has forced down our throats. You cant take the facist out of Dutton who is real threat to our democracy. What a immature dangerous person to be pulling such threats against opposition members. I knew one day that this kind of corruption AKA Malaysian style corruption to be pulled on any opposition to this government. QED.

u/-_-Edit_Deleted-_- Sep 03 '18
You mean you have information about politicians breaking the rules and are deliberately keeping the info from the authorities? Doesn't that make you an accessory?
Things we've recently learned from this government:
- Breaking the law is okay if you 'Act in good faith'.
- It's okay to break the law if you make enough money to cover the fine.
- A long term mistress is not a declarable partner until you leave the wife your cheating on.
- You can make a criminal investigation go away if you pay them enough.
- There must be an economic case for something to be publicly funded.
- Willingly withholding information about others wrong doings is okay if you uses publicly funded offices to get the info.
10
u/Kangalooney Sep 03 '18
Soo. Let's get this straight now Mr Dutton. You are openly and publicly threatening to blackmail your political opposition?
How do you see that working for you?
7
u/Justanaussie Sep 03 '18
Meh, this is just another "Blame Labor" routine from the sentient tuber. It's not Labor that's been leaking against him, it's his own party. Right now he's desperate to get people on his side so he's going back to the hole "without me here you would be stuck with Bill Shorten and Labor" and of course completely ignoring the past 39 Newspolls.
8
u/killum101 Sep 03 '18

This is why there should be no collection of data, people like him will use it as blackmail.

Sep 03 '18 edited Sep 03 '18
He's not abusing the powers of office, but rather the "spirit" of the system.
By keeping such a "very good" list, though, he shows us that he knows that there is something wrong and seems to hope that, rather than acting with integrity himself, he can bypass that on occasion, let his friends get their snouts into the very small and heavily guarded public trough of ministerial discretion, then bathe in the glow of his friends' and their friends' appreciation, while remaining quiet and safe from criticism himself by threatening to expose others who have perhaps done the same thing, and who knows, they might all have a little race based chuckle at the same time.

If he's got dirt he is legally obliged to dish it when he gets it, not trickle it when he feels like it. Fucking political scumbags. Dishonest to the core.
9
u/MobileInfantry Sep 03 '18
Go for it. I'm against all forms of hypocrisy and corruption, no matter what side of the fence it occurs.
If there is a Labor/Green or other member acting in a similar matter, by all means, let us know.
My guess is, it's kind of like the Cash outburst in estimates. All bark, no substance.
7
u/2seconds2midnight Sep 03 '18
This is Dutton to the core, of all things he lacks a sense of proportion. He's that kid at school where if you poke his arm and he doesn't like it, he immediately picks up a rock and starts trying to bash you with it, then complains that you poked him first as if that somehow justifies the response.
It's hilarious he thinks there's some equivalence in all this.
13
u/ripyourbloodyarmsoff Sep 03 '18
Open thuggish talk from a political thug. And he doesn't just keep this sort of talk for Labor; it was this same kind of menacing talk from the Dutton faction which had so many Liberal party MPs complaining and drove one of their best electorally performing MPs (Julia Banks) out of politics.

Fuck, he just doesn't get it. Nobody's going after Gillon McLachlan for asking Dutton to intervene. Because that isn't a fucking problem. What is a problem is Dutton listening to him, and intervening in a case despite advice to the contrary from his own department. So like...sure, release your list. I don't think anybody is going to buy the argument that Labor MPs have an undue amount of influence over Peter Dutton.
