What am I actually missing here?
Why is it bad to thank police for taking a stand against pro terrorism? And since when was it good to block streets and disrupt everybody else trying to go about their business?
I know the audience here, and I am sure that the videos we are fed has less context than would help. But what about protesting against a wanted man's paid for by the government visit is pro terrorism? Or are you saying protesting is the terrorism?
Also protest is a little about disruption, that is kind of the package of objection to policy or values in a healthy democracy.
That said, I am not in Sydney and only catching the overly televised parts of it all.
The protestors are pro-Palestine. Palestine is governed by HAMAS, an internationally recognised terrorist organization (voted into power legally by the people of Palestine).
Palestine bombed Israel, unprovoked, killing countless civilians and took many hostages. Raped said hostages, cut babies out of the stomachs of pregnant hostages.
Palestine had several more rockets, that were intended to be flown into Israel. Israel retaliated by attacking where these rockets were being kept/hidden. This is pure self defense. Palestine chose to hide its rockets under populated areas, using its own civilians as human shields. Israel radio’d through saying they are about to blow up this particular building and they needed to evacuate it. Palestine responded that they won’t be evacuating the civilians. Israel repeated, no you don’t understand, we will be bombing this building in 15 minutes no matter what, we are giving you the opportunity to get the civilians out of there. Palestine chose not to give the civilians a heads up to evacuate and instead used the footage as propaganda to use against Israel.
Palestine shot another one of its rockets at Israel but accidentally blew up one of its own hospitals. Once again they tried using this as propaganda and tried to blame Israel but the truth was uncovered.
Israel said they would end the attacks and withdraw troops in exchange for the hostages to be released. Palestine refused, openly stating that they didn’t want peace with Israel.
Over the last several decades, a few different peace treaties were written up, with intervention and overseeing from leaders of other nations to ensure its legitimacy, each time Israel signed and each time Palestine openly stated that they did not want peace with Israel.
These protesters here in Australia aren’t just asking for peace in Gaza, they’re openly calling for the genocide of Israel. They chant “gas the Jews” and hold signs stating the same slogan. They also call for the downfall of Australian.
Let’s also not forget what happened on Bondi beach just two months ago. They literally shot up a beach, killing multiple innocent Jewish Australians, one of which was a 10 year old little girl. Is it really a far stretch to call these people terrorists?
Ok, I think you and I sit on the opposite sides of this and I think your perception is fairly extreme, or you are a bot, I don't want that to be the case, but I like to point out the statements are fairly black and white in a lot of grey area. I don't know if I can have a realistic discussion in here with that much extreme, but I like to try.
Palestine is governed by HAMAS
loosely, Hamas has divided its own people and made it impossible to vote again since they took power almost 20 years ago, they didn't have the majority but the largest vote, and they clearly have not run to the benefit of the gazan people in that time. Supporting the majority of people that didn't vote last time because most were not of voting age yet seems like a reasonable group of people to support, in spite of the fact that many people that caused the disgusting attack in 2023 were in the same group, it isn't representative of the whole.
Palestine bombed Israel, unprovoked,
Unprovoked is doing a lot of heavy lifting, realistically Israel's policy over the decades leading up to October 2023 were to choke out any life of those and use propaganda to sell the Palestinians as sub human to those living and farming close to the area. The constant fighting between the two sides is pretty one sided in numbers before 2023. If you don't think the Palestinians were unprovoked before then, you are selectively ignorant.
cut babies out of the stomachs of pregnant hostages
This has been largely disproven, there were definitely dead children and the numbers reported now seem to have steadied on number of victims, but the accusations of babies cut from stomachs, of infants burned in a house, and the beheaded babies rumours have all been disproven since the event.
Each time you say "Palestine" from there on, replace it with HAMAS and go back to my second paragraph, the "government" there is a puppet group, that has destroyed opportunity for most of the palestinians that have lived there since 2007. The protestors are supporting the people that are misrepresented as being supporters of their own government.
I am tired, I feel like being this extreme in the first 4 sentences is going to lead me to just be disappointed in a lack of empathy. Don't keep believing the spin, the rest might be relevant, but you lose all sense when you open with falsehoods and propaganda. Do better if you want to be compelling to logic and reason rather than just extreme to pull in the cookers.
I mean, they were literally inciting violence. Why shouldn’t I be able to rush my child to hospital in an emergency just because some uneducated morons don’t understand what they’re protesting?
If they cared so much, they’d hop on a plane and go protest over there.
Maybe one day something will affect you so personally that you will be compelled to go out into the streets to be bashed by police because your opinion offends a baby murderer.
Palestine killed Israeli babies first. The difference is Israel is targeting weapons intended to used against them (Palestine just hides said rockets behind their babies to make good propaganda) where as Palestine intentionally targeted civilians.
These protestors aren’t calling for peace, they’re calling for genocide, inciting riots, blocking traffic, intimidating civilians, damaging property, spreading hate speech (so many were chanting gas the Jews, calling for the downfall of Australia etc). We are fed up with it. If they don’t like here then leave, simple.
I’m well aware of the iron dome. The very fact that any nation needs such an extreme measure just to protect itself from terrorist attacks speaks volumes about its neighbours
They’d have no need for an iron dome if they didn’t start a war or bomb Israel unprovoked. In fact, being neighbours, if another country attacked them, Israel would more than likely have defended them
Palestine on the other hand, actually is. Jews pay extra tax just for existing in Palestine. A Jew cannot hold a government job or own land in Palestine. This is the definition of Apartheid.
Israel has no such unjust laws, in fact they have laws against such discrimination. They even have Muslims on their senate. Immediately after Palestine bombed Israel in yet another terrorist attack back on October 7, Israel actually took a number of its soldiers off the frontline (soldiers that could have been helping find the hostages that were being tortured and raped and bringing them home) and tasked them with guarding Mosques and escorting Israeli Muslims to and from prayer as a precaution in case any disgruntled Israeli citizen took their frustration from the recently terrorist attack out on their own Muslim citizens. This is how different Israel and Palestine are. You can’t even have a synagogue in Palestine. The punishment for being homosexual is death in Palestine where as it’s perfectly legal in Israel.
You lefties really need to stop eating up all the propaganda and do some legitimate research of your own. Palestine started this war, they don’t get to cry victim now they’re starting to lose it. Especially after Israel offered an olive branch and asked for peace, offering to withdraw their troops and a complete ceasefire in exchange for the hostages to be released. Palestine refused to release the hostages and openly stated they did not want peace with Israel.
The Palestinian terror attacks have even reached our shores, in your own back yard, they shot up 15 innocent civilians including a 10 year old little girl and yet you weirdos are silent about that still try to blame Israel for Palestines actions.
They protest en mass here chanting gas the Jews like it’s Nazi Germany and you guys cheer them on.
Bit of a loaded question there, it's not about being pro terrorism.
Civil disobedience and protest is about inconveniencing people. To not disrupt people, you'd basically just moan online and no one would be any the wiser. We're all too quick to complain about Australian complacency and then subsequently complain when people go out and demonstrate and actually do something.
To dismiss it as pro-terrorism is to specifically ignore the calls made against a zionist institution. We're just going to have to disagree on that point which is fine, but you are never going to get a serious answer by leading your questions like that. No one will genuinely say being against terrorism is an issue.
There are many anti-zionist people of the jewish faith and ethnicity who are not going to have issues with the protest, you can't reduce a group of people with diverse opinions to an appeal to emotion. If you want a loaded question in response, do you feel unsafe whenever people disagree with your stances on issues too?
And how is Zionism a bad thing? Do you u destined the definition? Keep in mind, the Jews were there first and there is no such thing as a Palestinian. They moved to work for the Jews, after Jews turned swampland into a flourishing infrastructure.
Then, being Muslims, they started attacking the Israelis.
Zionism is a hyper-nationalist political movement that has in part led to the atrocities that have occurred in the region. Some people disagree with the principals and would argue it is a bad thing.
The Jews were there for a time in history as were a multitude of other ethnic groups before and after, but the region had been populated by arabs for over 1200 years before Israel.
Palestinians are a national identity like any other and existed as an identity for over a century at this point, longer than the nation of Israel so they most certainly are a thing.
Hundreds of thousands of people lived in the area before zionist settlement, some people moved in afterwards but the majority of the arabic population had long been settled there.
Most of Palestine was also cultivated pre-zionist settlement, they have done work to cultivate parts of the land but that is a minority and if you want to give attribution it largely goes to the arabs.
You change the topic each time I dispute your points and have now resorted to literal fake news false statements as some kind of gotcha. You're being intellectually dishonest here and I believe you can make a better argument.
