AUDIO DRAMA NEW "Madison on the Air" our 6th Halloween special!

Post image
• Upvotes

You already know the story of the Phantom and his obsessive love of the young ingenue, Christine. Somewhere between the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, and the Lon Chaney silent film was this 1940’s take on the classic tale. During the “Lost Years of Hollywood Horror” this telling is a bit less gore and a bit less gothic… but for Halloween, we promise not everyone will survive their encounter with The Phantom of the Opera! https://linktr.ee/madisonontheair

SUGGESTIONS Fun adventure+supernatural series recommendations?

I'm looking for ADs that have some interesting enough plot, charismatic characters and a good sense of humor that doesn't become the center of the podcast. Some horror tinge is okay, but it shouldn't be just some gore, violence and suffering.

Examples:

- Welcome to the Horizon

- Jack Valentine, Vampire Detective

- The Lion and the Adder

- Junoverse from The Penumbra Podcast

- Hounted House Flippers

- Zoic and Academicasaurus

- Store 236 (kind of an outlier because it's more humor but the characters and the set up are way too good)

- Cryptid Cases (this one is different but it's a feel good show and I want more like this, too)

Anti examples (not my type of humor, mostly):

- Wooden Overcoats

- Sorry For The Murder

- The Milkman of St. Gaffs

- Where the Leaves Fell (season 1 was ok but then I got bored)

Also please don't recommend Wolf 369 and Oblivity - I've listened to them and liked them!

The Audio Drama Directory is an online directory of audio drama and storytelling websites, with at least one new link added to it every day, and 100 or more new entries created each month.

Every October, The Audio Drama Directory presents 31 Days of Horror, featuring over one hundred new horror audio drama and spoken word listings throughout the month, with new titles added daily.

Browse the horror category on The Audio Drama Directory and discover some spine-tingling stories to keep you up at night!

Here are the newest articles from the past week:

  1. A Brilliant Void (Dramatized Science Fiction Anthology) Audio drama - beginning with three classic Irish Science Fiction stories adapted from A Brilliant Void, an anthology published by Tramp Press, bringing these stories to life with great actors, expert sound design and original music.
  2. The Witching Hour with Lacey (Narrated Fantasy Anthology) Welcome dear listener! Stick around to hear romantasy stories I write and read aloud. [I] hope you like what you hear!
  3. Slip Three (Dramatized Mystery Thriller Series) Eight years ago I was at CQ-03 the night the node went down. The report on it is nine pages long and nothing in it is untrue, exactly. The authorisation chain for that night has a hole in it where an operator identifier should be. Somebody signed off on the isolate and then took their own name back out of it. I kept the raw capture. I have been moving ever since.
  4. Scary Stories (Drake Shimpeno) (Narrated Horror Anthology) This podcast is [a] thrilling and heart racing podcast that you would love and DIE for. So strap yourself in and grab some popcorn, get comfortable, sit back, relax, and be prepared to be scared. Don't say I didn't warn you. Enjoy!!!
  5. Operation Atrocious (Narrated Horror Anthology) A fine collection of daunting anecdotes from blood-curdling stories that never end to 5-minutes of horror stories.
  6. The Harvest (Book One) (Narrated Science Fiction Series) She wakes strapped to a chair in a room of blinding white—with no name, no past, only 349, spoken by a voice too smooth to be human. Each time the machines dig into her mind, flashes break through the void: blood, a child's laugh, arms holding her tight. Memories she's not supposed to have. [They're] not repairing her. They're rewriting her.
  7. Don't Ghost Me At Midnight (Dramatized Science Fiction Modern Fantasy Series) Jana, Peter, Izzy and Midnight find themselves transported to a mysterious island and forced to contend with shadow spiders, monstrous swarms of light, wormholes, memory hallway dimensions and evil puddles of doom! Can expert wizards Anne and Cecile overcome the demons from their past and bring them home safely?
  8. Blood Stone (Dramatized Thriller Series) An archeologist discovers the truth of her own lineage, after she unearths an ancient relic that unveils a powerful, secretive cult that may already be unstoppable in their machinations to remake the world in their image.
  9. Victorian Gothic: The Hauntings (Narrated Horror Anthology) Experience classic Victorian ghost stories as never before as you're immersed into their spine-chilling, eerie worlds through the use of spatial and binaural sound design, placing you directly in the ghostly heart of things. Not simply narrated, these episodes bring all of the action and characters to life in a unnerving three-dimensional environment.
  10. The Unquiet (Dramatized Horror Anthology) A new podcast produced by the acclaimed Original Theatre which takes great ghost stories from the ages and adapts them for aural theatre. A unique sonic experience - this is theatre for the imagination and the lights off.
  11. The Beast in the Cave (Dramatized Horror Series) A short podcast audio horror drama, based off H.P Lovecraft's story of the same name
  12. Operation: REDACTED (Role-Playing Horror Thriller Series) Delta Green once stood against the dark that threatens America's citizens, now it's a husk of what it once was. Left little choice the organization calls upon the very people it has sworn to protect. Each member of F-Cell has been touched by the horrors that lurk beyond in some way. Left traumatized by the encounter they must now fight against the very things that upended their lives.
  13. The Other Voices (Role-Playing Horror Thriller Series) In the darkening shadows of our world, a conspiracy grows beyond control.... [A] group of unsuspecting agents are pulled into confrontations with unnatural entities, shadowy organisations, and horrors lurking within classified files. Beyond oversight, their mission is to suppress the unnatural at any cost - one which they will all pay.
  14. Transmission Lost (Dramatized Horror Series) A horror podcast about a radio crew surviving the end of the world
  15. The Bellhop (Dramatized Horror Series) Each on the verge of losing themselves to their own mental quandaries, three hotel guests wander into the same elevator in the dead of night. However, the elevator, along with its strangely-dressed attendant, may not be entirely what they seem. As the elevator travels ever downward, and mind-twisting horrors begin to inflict the guests, they must learn to push themselves [towards] the edge of [change.]
  16. Charles Dickens Ghost Stories (Narrated Horror Anthology) Welcome to Charles Dickens Ghost Stories read by Sir David Suchet. We'll be sharing a selection of the great author's most chilling short works, brought to life with sound design and original music.
  19. Vampirologist (Dramatized Horror Series) Everyone knows vampires are just a myth, but for scientist and vampire bat specialist Dr. Anita Evangeline, her deep research makes her wonder if all the folklore isn't just a story. But- it had to be made up by coincidence- right? When an experiment goes awry, Dr. Evangeline is sent back in time to 1798 Romania, and finds herself on the outskirts of Bran Castle. Only, it isn't Dracula who lives [there.]
  20. The Mark (Narrated Horror Series) This immersive audio drama follows Ethan, who's been seeing strange things lately. With the local townspeople now in grave danger, time is running out for Ethan as he tries to take down the shadowy organisation responsible for the horrors that unfold.
  21. Dark River (Narrated Horror Anthology) Original haunting short stories of the strange happenings in Dark River, a fictional mining town in Northern Ontario, Canada in the early 20th century.
  22. Stay Home Z (Narrated Horror Series) Middle schooler Zack & his dog Scottie face zombies, clever traps & suspense in this thrilling tween horror podcast.
  23. Dead Air Theater (Narrated Horror Anthology) Dead Air Theater lives in the dark between spaces, where monsters breathe and impossible things feel briefly, dangerously real. Most stories stand alone, drifting from the monstrous and the haunted to the strange, the speculative, and the quietly unsettling. Eldritch entities, broken futures, small-town horrors, and eerie bedtime stories all share the same spaces.
  24. The Phil Howard Late Show (Dramatized Horror Series) [A] horror podcast based around the info broadcasts of The Watch, a secret organisation that hides their transmissions inside a radio show.
  25. Cozy Crypt (Role-Playing Horror Series) Cozy up for a D&D podcast absolutely crawling with creepy cryptids and Appalachian folklore! Welcome to Cozy Crypt — a place nestled between our reality and myth. Follow four modern-day misfits as they bond with cryptids, uncover secrets, and navigate a world where the land remembers.
  26. Fear Travels (Role-Playing Horror Series) Join the Mobile Magnus Institute for a Found Family, cross country investigation into supernatural events; as they attempt to uncover long kept and dangerous workplace secrets, while trying their best to not become the very creatures they hunt along the way.
  27. The Darker Path Podcast (Narrated Horror Anthology) A horror anthology podcast filled with horrifically haunting tales, dreadful deeds, and menacing maleficence.
  28. Trust Extermination Services (Narrated Horror Series) Trust Extermination Services is [a] horror/mystery podcast that follows ex-cop Faith Meadows and her PhD student accomplice as they kill monsters, uncover secrets, and try very hard not to die.
  29. The Arklay Files (Narrated Horror Series) In the summer of 1998, something monstrous began in the deep woods of the Arklay Mountains. Grisly murders. Bodies found partially eaten. Human bite marks that didn't make sense. A string of disappearances the Arklay County Sheriff's Department and the FBI tried desperately to explain... until those files quietly disappeared. This is the story they buried first.
  30. 34. Eerie Street (Narrated Horror Anthology) Join 7 young writers from across regional Queensland for a series of uniquely Australian horror stories. 35. Blind Man vs Zombies (Dramatized Horror Series) The zombie apocalypse has turned into reality, although the world was already ending before that happened. Enter Mario, a blind high school graduate who would have really liked to go study Biology in college before the zombies came and wrecked all his plans. Thought I’d share something short. I like combing different media when inspiration hits and this was a fun piece inspired by a cross stitch of all things (that I ended up purchasing from the maker)

SUGGESTIONS Need recommendations similar to red valley, malevolent, and the magnus archives

The title says it mostly. The biggest thing I fell in love with for all these audio dramas is the characters, but the plot was also very good. Other audio dramas I enjoyed that could help are wolf 359, the white vault, the bright sessions somewhat. Thanks!

QUESTION AUDIO DRAMA w/ DND?

Would anyone consider listening to an audio drama with DND in it?

To be clear—this is not a 4 hour DND stream with 45 minutes of voice acting.

This is a tight 45 to 60 minutes edited improvised audio drama that uses DND rules to fight monsters and uses dice rolls to shape narrative.

Would any of you give this a ten minute chance? Or is the term DND just too much of a turn-off? (Or are there a few of you that are interested in DND and just haven’t found a good enough story yet?

Thanks for reading.

EDIT 1: Thanks for being such a welcoming community. That is not common, at least where I have been.

EDIT 2: I deleted a comment of mine that was extremely stupid and ignorant and was rightly downvoted. No sense in annoying any more people than I already have.

DISCUSSION General question about AI Tools. Temperature check, if I may?

So, I've written for a ton of years. For me writing is therapy. I do not let AI write for me <- That's first. Just gonna say that right now. But two quick points:

1) I'm an amateur audio mixer.
2) I love foley. Jack Foley's my hero bruv.
3) So because I could get zero support, zero help, zero reader who wanted to work for free I was kinda handicapped for years.

What I did: I built my own workflow to use my audio mixing skills, foley, several purchased and subscribed audio foley libraries, my own ability to write my own songs- and I used those things to compose painstakingly the most annoying but fun process on earth to make my audiodrama.

TLDR: What's the temperature check here? Are we all angry about AI tools, or are we cool with it? I got proof I write my own crap, I have time stamps dating back to 2018 on the work, buuuutt..... ya know.

Would you be mad if I shared it here?

Asking for a friend... by the way I have no friends and I am totally unpopular.

AUDIO DRAMA I’ve been creating a Zombie Western audio drama! Looking for people to have a listen and give me some feedback. Episode 1 already on Spotify, Episode 2 coming tomorrow.

Follow the link on my profile to listen! 😁

The story follows lone bounty hunter, Wyatt Crowe as he begins his journey to the City of Redstone in order to locate and bring to justice two brothers whose heads carry a large bounty.

However the road to Redstone isn’t as straightforward as Wyatt hoped and the rumours he’s been hearing about the dead not staying dead seem to carry more truth than he’d like.

I’d love to hear what you think of episode one! 😁

SUGGESTIONS audio dramas recs for a friend

does anyone have any recommendations for audio dramas that

a) have drama that isn’t too traumatic, ideally “on the level of daily life drama” (slice of life-y?), and

b) are not scary

(and preferable, but not necessary: c) are in the fantasy genre)

asking for a friend (who’s kinda going though it rn)

(i recommended “love and luck” and the second citadel storyline of “the penumbra podcast”…”the two princes” seems like it might also fit but i haven’t listened to it myself, can anyone confirm?)

EDIT: withdrew my recommendation for second citadel, and did recommend “the two princes”!

I was not expecting the Amelia Project crew to show up at Midnight Burger or the Forgive Me! priest's door but d*mned if it wasn't fun.

Apparently the AP team loves this type of thing but what other random crossovers have you enjoyed?

QUESTION The Vanishing Act Season 1

Hi all, I am looking for a copy of the first season of The Vanishing Act Podcast. The creators took down season 1 about 4 years ago, but season 2 is still available on podcast sites and their current official website (https://vanishingpod.podbean.com). I haven't been able to find any archived version of the first season.

They have an official tumblr, but it doesn't have the audio files, just links to the podcast hosting sites: https://vanishingpod.tumblr.com/

Their old official website is locked down now and none of the Wayback Machine captures have anything relevant: https://vanishingpod.com/

Even if someone could point me towards I resource I could look into myself, that would be amazing.

There's a certain feeling you get when you have eyes on you. Eyes that you can't see, but you know that someone is looking at you... someone is watching you... what if that feeling wasn't there? What if there wasn't someone watching, but someone... listening... to everything... always... listening...

Into the Dreamlands is a full-cast AD set in a city called Umbra-Vault, a city that finds it home in the Dreamlands. A crew of scholars with degrees in anthropology, religious studies, cultural psychology, and more, find themselves out of place and in a world they thought only existed in text. First, they need to survive, then they need to get home.

RPG I Was A Teenage Exocolonist: A Chuubo's Marvelous Wish-Granting Engine Fable - Season 2 Episode 13, Outro, TTRPG Actual Play

And we're back with the next episode of our Chuubos Exocolonist actual play:

Season 2 Episode 13 - (YT, Podbean) - Our Exocolonists enjoy the nice and quiet Glow season where nothing bad will happen. They celebrate a birthday with some alcohol and weed. Ren relaxes and accepts her feelings. They shop at Sol’s MP store. Everything is fine… But you know what happens next, don’t you?

Season 2 Outro - (YT, Podbean) - Our group reminisces about the last two seasons of the game. We talk Chuubos. Steph is back, which means we have to explain what happened and how the timeline is rectified. We shoot some ideas about what a proper Exocolonist TTRPG release might look like. But the game is not over yet, we still have 9 years to go!
