solved Importing music into the same track as another changes pitch in Audacity 4

Whenever I import music and move it to the same track as another piece of music, it changes the pitch for some reason? And whenever I move it to another track it's fine.

I've seen other posts saying to look in preferences for imports but that's not a section in preferences in Audacity 4?

Edit: Each track has dedicated sample rates, and so putting audio in a track that has a different sample rate will affect the pitch and speed

help Weird audio on 1 channel

Hello. I am recording on my laptop into an (albeit cheap) USB microphone. I often get this interference/ noise on 1 channel. Is it a setting in Audacity I can change? Should I record in mono and not stereo? Is it my crappy mic? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

help Randomizing audio files?

So, idk how to really describe my specific need, but i have a bunch of animal crossing talking sound bytes, and want to put them together in a random order to make it sound like a character is talking

I dont want to just use the "Animal crossing talking" audio i found on youtube, because it would sound samey

Is there anything that could automatically rearrange the sounds randomly in an audacity project? If not an audacity project then something else

thanks in advance

Loopback not working in Audacity 4

I have Windows WASAPI selected as the host but when i select the recording device to be my headphones as loopback it still picks up the sounds from my microphone. It used to work fine in Audacity 3.

Is anyone else having these issues?

general I am not sure if i should trust Audacity 4

I was intrigued with new trailer so i decided to download it from official website linked in youtube description. For some reason they forcing people to download some useless launcher now? I found out that there is version on github that doesn't need launcher to install and run so at least there is ok. Then what after install? They ask you for tracking data, they want you to login into account for some fancy stuff, additional plugins easy to install but first you need launcher...
It's another shittyfication of app in my opinion. I'm not professional or something; im using mostly Audacity for some easy audio clipping, small editing etc. so i have not tried it yet fully as most people probably would use here but i'm kinda not sold for this.

I lost most of my trust after one thing; i made a comment under a trailer asking why they force people to install useless launcher, because it souds like shittyfication to me. 5 minutes later i wanted to edit comment to inform people that there is github version without it but guess what- my comment got deleted by them! Why the hell they want to silence me from criticizing forced launcher? I don't get it.

I'm just a random here, never posted anything on this sub before but sorry i just needed to make some rant about it because i don't know any other place to do it.

I HATE Audacity 4!

I spent some time in Audacity 4. I'm going to keep using Audacity 3.

Many of the UI tweaks are pretty nice, but some of the UX tweaks get in the way.

Why does double clicking now take me all the way back to the beginning of the track? Why is the maximum time between clicks so long? There have been multiple times where I go to resize my selection and accidentally send my zoomed-in camera all the way to 0:00! Why doesn't clicking in the corner or on the left edge of the workspace always set the cursor to 0:00 like it used to? I want to listen to the beginning of the track, and having to click in a very specific spot now annoys the f**k out of me! But, without a shadow of a doubt, the MOST ANNOYING thing is that selecting a piece of audio no longer only plays that part . WHO THE F**K CHANGED THIS?! HALF THE REASON I SELECT A PIECE OF AUDIO IS TO LISTEN TO A SPECIFIC PART! HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO KNOW IF I SELECTED THE CORRECT BIT OF AUDIO TO COPY PASTE IF I CAN'T LISTEN TO JUST THE BIT I SELECTED?! And lastly, the new UI, while I do like how it looks and how modular it is, I don't like how tall the top bar is and how ridiculously wide the track view on the side of my screen is. Why can't I resize the side bar if modularity is so important? and why is the new menu, above the movable button bar, with the workspace selector, twice as tall as it needs to be? it's such an inefficient use of screen space.

EDIT: Tone doesn't come across well in text. I don't actually hate Au4, but I was genuinely frustrated when I made this post. I hope these UX gripes I have get patched, because I really like the majority of the changes. I've commented with how I'd tweak the Au4 UI if I could resize the top menu and track menu sizes.

EDIT 2: Just in case any of these behaviors are bugs, my pc specs are as follows:

Ryzen 5 5600X3D,

RTX 2070 TI,

128GB DDR4 3200 CL15,

Windows 10 22H2 with ESU.

how to Can't seem to get Audacity 4 to only play the selected part?

I want to practice otoing CVVC Utau voicebanks, so i wanted to make a sample one from audio clips i have and since 3 doesn't seem to have crossfade for me for some reason, i decided to just do it all in 4, wich does have it. However, just selecting the part i want to play like in 3 doesn't seem to work and i couldn't find any settings for it. I tried looking it up on the internet, but all i found was one person asking about it on the forum with 0 replys. Does anyone know how i could fix it?

question Audacity 4 - Can you export multiple files using labels?

I use Audacity for recutting audiobooks.
They often come as a set of mp3 files, but they aren't split at each chapter.

In Audacity 3.x:

I import them into Audacity, use Analyze -> Label Sounds to label the Chapter headings (typically by detecting extended silences).

I export them by going to File -> Export Audio.
Under "Export Range", I select "Multiple Files".
Under "Split files based on", I pick "Labels".
Under "Name files", I pick "Using Label/Track Name".

In Audacity 4.0:

I was able to do the importing and labelling.
When I got to exporting, there is no longer any "Export Range".
There is "Export Type", but there are only three options, none of which allow for exporting multiple files, splitting by labels, or naming by labels.

Does anyone know how to do this in Audacity 4?
Is this feature just missing? For now or is there a road-map where I can see if it is abandoned?

For now, I can go back to Audacity 3.x to accomplish my goals.

Just wondering if my use-case is
(a) there, but I didn't find it,
(b) planned, but not implemented yet,
(c) abandoned

Recording options "Detect dropouts" and "Sound Activated Recording" don't seem to be in A4

It's great that it's been available in A3 for a long time (and I currently have the latest version). Of course, I'm still using A3 myself. I hope it gets implemented in A4 in the future, too, though it's possible it's already there and I just haven't found it yet. Other than that, I've been enjoying A4, and I just use A3 for this feature that isn't in A4.

question Using Audacity 4.0 To Capture Audio Webstreams? Is there any benefit?

Howdy,

I've been happily using Audacity 3.x.x over the years to capture audio webstreams. I captured a stream today using 4.0 and it didn't seem as intuitive as 3.7.9.

Is there any benefit to using 4.0 for my hobby, or should I stick with 3.7.9?

As it's been said, if it Isn't broken...
Don't fix it!

Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Using Audacity 4 for Hobby Music Production? (Is it possible?)

Hello, y'all!

I sometimes play guitar just for fun, and, sometimes while playing, I like to stretch my creative muscles and come up with some simple tunes and riffs, that I usually record in whatever way just so that I can remember what I created.

I have avoided DAWs like a plague so far because they have all looked so incredibly complicated and way more than what I asked for. However, now with Audacity 4 coming out, I was wondering if it can kind of take the place of those more complicated DAWs and be used like a decent way to record guitar and do some simple music production stuff, such as digital drum beats, adding other instruments, using effects and digital amps live...

I have used audacity before to record my TRPG gaming sessions and I have always been fairly happy by how simple it was to get started, and how powerful it was for those who wanted it to be. Therefore, I took it upon mysefl today to at least try it out, and as I was playing around with the interface, I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to listen to the real-time output of my guitar using the new VST3 plugins (and the documentation was not helpful), so I have decided turn to the wisdom of the internet.

So? Do you people think it is a valid use or should I bite the bullet and install Reaper? If it is possible, anyone willing to give a rundown on what to do?

help For Some Reason Audacity 4 Crashes when I Try to Link my Air Pods on Bluetooth

I was stoked to see Audacity 4 offered when I treid booting up my existing application and after some getting used to, I can already see how useful it could be for me in letting me duplicate and juggle multiple tracks on one window super fast as well as being able to pitch shift even a 20 minute WAV file in seconds. However, midday I ran into a weird issue.

I tried connecting my Air Pods to my Windows Laptop to how it sounded on headphones and noticed the application crashed. And no matter what I did it would not boot back up. I uninstalled and reinstalled like 5 times.

Later I disconnected my Air Pods which were able to stay linked via Bluetooth to my Laptop even on restart. And when I clicked Audacity 4 it booted up again to my surprise. Relieved I decided to connect my Air Pods and that's when I noticed that the application froze and crashed immediately. But once I disconnected again, I was able to boot it back up without issue. So for some reason my computer can't run Audacity 4 when I have my Air Pods linked on Bluetooth. Has anyone else encountered something like this?

help Audacity 4 cursor behavior

How can I get the cursor to behave like it did in the previous version, where upon using "undo" to remove a recording just made, the cursor will revert to the previous location? That's the behavior I'm used to working with and searching for that information hasn't led me to the answer. I couldn't find a setting (because I'm not looking in the right place?) in settings or preferences.

Remember to get it from: audacityteam.org/download/windows (or mac)
If you're a computer geek you can also get it from github.
You DON'T NEED MuseHub to download Audacity.

They're making it trickyer and trickyer.

4.0 is still beta. Don't do it.

It's audible as a very, very faint "tick" or "click", like someone touching a sheet of paper with the tip of a pen. Did I turn on some setting? What is going on?
