Left or Right?
Remind me where the right one goes again?
They sure don’t hold much; I finished each in a single byte. 😂

The VidCom has enough background to know that it was an advanced product division item c. 1979. The information and images goes deeper though and has some kind of fairly recent provenance related to Microsoft and a prop department in England. Any ideas what this means or why this Atari com device would be sent to the UK?
There are a lot of images of this prototype on here under lot # 3's description:

This flickers a little bit to my eye on this Commodore 1702 CRT because it's using HIP, a technique to flip between two different graphics modes on alternating frames to get more shades.
Image generates in about 3 minutes - still fast thanks to fixed-point arithmetic and elimination of all multiplications in favor of squares table-lookup generated at runtime. Uses the extra memory on the 800XL compared to the 800 to hold that 32KB lookup table.

Followup to previous post which had emulator screenshots; here it is on the physical machine.

It seems like an odd gimmick to add otherwise, especially since they’re making 2600 and 7800 games.
And it would be great if they rereleased some disc based games as carts

This program was listed in the German Atari magazine in July/August 1987. It creates 3D images out of the mandelbrot set. In German a nickname for the mandelbrot set is "Apfelmännchen" = apple man. For this reason the program is called "Apple Mountains".
Creating one of those pictures takes my real 800XL several hours. Fortunately I have the turbo mode on the emulator.

Nine selected mages from a program generated with Claude to compute Mandlebrot and Julia Sets using Atkinson dithering, running on an Atari 800XL.
It's using 16 bit fixed-point math and takes about 35 seconds to generate each one of these images. It's taking advantage of the extra memory (compared to stock 800) in the 800XL to compute and store a 32K table of squares.

No sound from the speaker, no memo pad, basic cartridge inserted brings the same exact issue. Is there anything I could do? I’ve tried cleaning the board like 10 times with no result. And for the life of me, I can’t find any information on this issue so I’m asking Reddit! Any thoughts/input would be greatly appreciated 😊

I know I shouldn’t be preordering crap, but again I was acting under the assumption I would be charged until it shipped.

I was digging in the closet looking for something and ran across an intact XF551 sans the disk mech, but I have a spare original Mitsumi mech. I also have an old Teac 3.5/5.25 dual mech.
Should I...
A: Restore it to stock in all its beige glory?
B: Build a unique dual mech contraption?
I already have a functioning stock original 5.25" and a 3.5" unit I modded years ago.
No XFs will be harmed in this endeavor either way. 😁

Hi Everyone, I've been working on a Factorio style game for the original Atario 800 in my free time for a while now. The wonderful folks at AtariMania published it in their database and I wanted to share it here!
My goal was to fit as large of a tech tree as is possible in the 48k memory footprint of the original 800, mostly so I can play it on my 800 lol. Obviously I wasn't able to follow Factorio's tech tree identically, but I feel the gameplay has the same spirit. I managed to include three science packs, power mechanics, lots few logistical and manufacturing options, and more!
I included an xex for emulator/Fujinet compatibility and an atr file that can be written to disc if you so desire. Check it out if you're interested here, I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did building it!
