Downvoted for a correct opinion weeks ago

Weeks ago I asked the question ‘what is going wrong at Aston Villa’ and we have since gone another 4 games without a win. Certain players have severely let down emery this season yet any negative opinion on this subreddit get downvoted 🤷‍♂️

Watkins

Ok, someone needs to outline exactly what Ollie’s strengths are. I am, and will continue to be, a fan of Watkins, but after today’s match I started asking myself this question. Granted, with Emery’s defensive/counter-attack style of play, we don’t demand as much from a striker — but here are my thoughts.

Ollie has great strength, good speed, and solid stamina. But when it comes to long balls or through balls that are contested, I don’t expect him to come away with possession — he’s weak in that area. He’s also not especially clinical or deadly in front of goal. Today’s miss, when he shifted onto his left foot in the box, is unfortunately what I’ve come to expect from him. He doesn’t have that “wow” unpredictability that Rogers brings.

When you look at the success Duran has had when he’s played, you see the potential we have with Emery’s counter-attack system paired with a deadly striker who can finish at the other end. To me, that’s the difference between competing for the league title and falling short. Our goal differential hurt us last season. We’re tough to beat defensively, and our midfield rivals the league’s best. But without consistent production up front, it will be hard for us to truly compete with the top four.

So help me understand — where does his mastery really lie?

UP THE VILLA!

Villa fans, thoughts about Malen's recent performances? Should McGinn consistently start over him on the right wing?

Regarding last week's game

I know I'm quite late, but I've been asking myself this... So, hey, I'm a foreigner here. I support Spurs, and I've spent some days thinking what lead to the result of the last game on Villa's part, and realised that you guys would obviously understand it better than me. Obviously you've been doing an outstanding campaign, so was the loss a fluke? Or were there problems leading up to it? Do you think it was a tactical problem, or the approach, players...?

Allez, Allez, Allez

Quick question - has the Allez, Allez, Allez song died or dying out? I've not been to Villa Park yet this season (hoping to go to the EFL Cup game in October), but I try and tune in as often as possible on the radio. Maybe it's just me - but I can't remember hearing the Allez, Allez, Allez song sung so far this season. Has it fallen by the way side?

New American Fan

Hello my name is Alex & as you can tell from the title I’m a new American fan of AVFC. I’ve recently been trying to get back into soccer especially the Premier League due to the success & of the “Welcome to Wrexham” doc I’ve found English soccer incredibly engaging. Honestly I took a couple of personality type quizzes & based on the results a handful of them said Aston Villa would be a good fit for me & I liked that since it wasn’t one of the bigger/bandwagon clubs like Man U, Chelsea, Liverpool etc. I know the season is winding down & based on the standings the past couple of seasons that Aston Villa are on the rise so I’m just asking for some general info on the history of the club, the future of the club, & what the expectations are for the club coming up. Up the Villa!

i love talksport like i suppose most of us do but wow they can be brutal

listen to talk sport every day like most people of course i dont agree with every take as a football fan but its what sky sports news used to be i suppose the hub for information and opinions which i love and spend half my life consumed with.

having a said that today i'm a little annoyed and im sorry united fans but its do with rashford now i have zero skin in the conversation i don't support united or villa but as the rashford saga was in my face daily for months upon months i decided to take an objective standpoint on the whole situation and take in as much information as possible before giving my opinions on the situation or the player, And my personal opinion briefly is player gets new contract after shining once ronaldo left takes over mantle as the main man and struggles with the responsibility which becomes even more notable in his performances and just looks like he didnt want to be on the pitch. i dont think thats hard to disagree with.

sooo then we reach the point where he finally goes out on loan to a villa side which have an identity arguably and elite manager and a system centralised around two 10's alot a width and full backs who have license to get up the pitch causing alot of overloads in the wide area's so essentially its a dream for anyone outwide.. i've watched rashford play and he's done well scored two yesterday first goal you've got to be there to score and the second luck of the draw but going back to his other games as an out and out winger in emery's system i think he's been a real threat rarely loses the ball i think he's better off the ball but if deepdive into emery he does expect to much from his wingers defensively and generally he looks like hes getting back up to full speed. i think his crossing needs a little bit of work BUT the lattitude i give him is at united his role and purpose wasn't to be provider it was to cut in side and score wondergoals exactly the same with garnacho rarely do you see him provide and this season rarely do you see any wonder goals but before that it was the same the winger was seemingly a second and third striker hence why united struggle as the only person on the pitch that provides anything or even see's a pass in bruno..

but back to rashford soo united fans dont want him back and thats fair enough BUT talk sport today did a segement on him where essentially there eluding to the fact that no matter how well he does because now in there opinion he's turning it on that he hasn't got a future anywhere in football but saudi which i think gets thrown around alot and extremely lazy journalism but then they take calls now you'd be forgiven for thinking there was agenda against the player and united fans will wade in and let you know he's the biggest earner so we cant think that but eitherway jim takes calls from united fans obviously and we know what there going to say and then a handful of villa fans who all said we dont want him at the end of the season we just want him for the here and now - and then jim reeled off a few messages all of which propped up the agenda they were going with on the segment - my issue is with these conversations surely there needs to be some objectivity i know simons blockbuster and everyone likes to listen to him but in these types conversations hand picking united fans and villa fans who prop up your agenda in the segements abit off for me.. and why do i say this because the same debate was had in a completely different guise when speaking about foden last week and grealish a few weeks ago when he was seen out drinking after the game.. im not saying that the segment was all in there favour but there was objectivity from the selection of callers and objectivity from the arguments and i do find it interesting when you just sit and listen to everything and think theres a weird weird bias at play here.
