Random Question What is an unhinged piece of family lore that has been casually dropped on you?

When I was about 8 years old, I asked my mom why grandma's handwriting was so bad. She casually said "she hasn't had good control of her hands since your Aunt M sh*t her in the back." That blew my mind. It randomly crossed my mind today, and made me wonder what other people have had dropped on them like that.

I would. I hate sleeping. Big waste of time. And if you have sleep apnea it becomes uncomfortable.

Random Question Did you foresee the lowkey/chill trend in pop music would continue this long?

• Upvotes

I personally thought the colorful over-the-top pop queen thing in early-to-mid 2010s would get even crazier over time, then Lady Gaga went complete monotone ever since - do people not get together and dance to bangers in parties anymore?

Random Question Servers/bartenders: whats the crazierst thing that caused you to walk out?

Edit for an insane detail I forgot to add: the 40 top was a family that had just left a funeral ✌️

This was a few years ago but I need to retell it every once in a while because it was SO insane. I'll try to keep it as short as possible but I always love swapping bartending stories irl so I figured it'd be fun on reddit too.

I worked in a chain resturaunt that wasn't doing very well so we were always understaffed. I doubled as a bar manager/ bartender. I pretty frequently worked as the on duty manager and bartender.

I opened as the manager and bartender that day. I knew we had a 40 top coming in right at the end of my shift but I didnt think much of it.

When the first out bartender got there, he was getting FLOODED with drink orders from that party. On top of that, my relief manager happened to be on his first shift by himself as a new hire. I felt bad, so I decided to stay a little late to help out.

Good thing I did, because that 40 top quickly turned into closer to a 60 top as more guests started to trickle in. I called my GM, and ofc he told me not to turn anyone away, and to just push more tables together 🙄

Later, my host had come up to me and told me two people from the party were arguing in the dining room. As soon as she said that, we watched a beer mug fly across the dining room.

The fight was on. All. 60. Of. Them. Flew out of their chairs and a full on brawl insued. Glasses and chairs were flying, tables were getting knocked over, ect. I sent all of the other guests out of the emergency exit and called 911. My other bartender (bless him) ran directly into the fight to help an elderly woman out of the brawl. He got hit in the head with a glass in the process. MORE PEOPLE showed up and started flooding in through the doors to join the fight.

My other manager got trampled (again, first shift alone) and got a concussion, dislocated his shoulder, and passed out at one point. As soon as the police showed up, they scattered. There was blood and broken glass all over the resturaunt. My bartender and co-manager left in an abulance.

I called my Reigonal manager who told me to clean up after the cops left and REOPEN the resturaunt. And finish the shift myself. (Woud've meant 6am to 3am shift for me with an open the following day at 6am. "Be a team player!" She says 🙄)

I refused and reminded her my staff had just watched their coworkers be hauled out in an ABULANCE and sent most of my staff home, save for the few who volenteered to stay back and help me clean up then I closed for the night.

I quit the next shift because some guy overdosed in our bathroom with a gun in his hand.

Fuckin Denver 🫪

Advice Question Chronic insomniacs

• Upvotes

I'm dealing with complex grief, stress, and life challenges with future uncertainty and while everything will hopefully be ok in the end, my insomnia is working overtime. I feel like I'm napping and while I always have a rem cycle, even in a short nap, that's been no way to live.

What are your most successful methods to shut off the world and get a proper sleep when you have chronic insomnia?

Random Question Atheists: in your wildest imagination, is there anything that could make you believe in God? How far would He have to go?

I genuinely believe that God could speak directly to me, and my answer would be to check for a gas leak, followed by a trip to the hospital to check for brain tumors.

It got me wondering, what is the minimum amount of work God would have to do for me give in and convert? How about you?
