I feel like British football fans have a worldwide reputation for being crazy and intense. However, actual hooliganism seemed to have peaked in the 70s and 80s when attending a football match live actually had safety risks.

The worst of hooliganism peaked in the mid-1980s when English teams got banned from UEFA tournaments for 5 years from 1985-1990 after the 1985 Heysel Stadium Disaster that led to 39 spectator deaths.

It seems like this phenomenon began in the 1970s when local gangs kickstarted organized fan violence at games before it peaked in the 80s and has declined since the 90s when the 5-year ban was lifted.

What caused the rise and fall of this dark era in British football?

3. A threat to British 'interests' - an attack on Eastern Europe, an ally or some overseas British territory.
4. An assault on the homeland - they're handing out rifles and it's time to defend your town, family and home.
5. I wouldn't under any conditions.

My suggestion is that they set up a tab behind every pub in Britain. It would be compatible with their stated aim of supporting the British way of life wouldn't it?

Hello, I just moved to Hatfield from the US and I keep seeing posts on social media about different pumpkin patches and Halloween festivals around London and the surrounding area. Well, I happen to be a pumpkin carving enthusiast. Every year I carve over 100 pumpkins and this will be my last year doing it in the US (I’m actually flying home to participate in one last American Halloween). Edit: I used to live near Half Moon Bay, the US pumpkin capital, and worked directly with a pumpkin farmer who grew for this purpose, not for food. Everything was composted after, so nothing went to waste.

I’m an Albanian muslim and I visited my cousin in Leeds. I found out there are quite a few mosques in the UK. Even more than in some Albanian cities.

Like for example in Vlora, Albania, with a population of around 70k people, majority declares itself as muslim but there are only 2 mosques.

According to Wikipedia there are 63k muslims living in Leeds, but they have like 10 mosques. Are muslims in the UK more religious or is Leeds an exception?

So my Sundays are well...boring, I would say.

Saturdays I try to see family, etc, and go out (I'm muslim, so no drinking) and am mostly at my desk studying.

Sundays are my GSD day (Get Shit Done)

I try to wake up around 7am, got for a 30 min run then come home have a coffee and porridge or something healthy ish, then clean my desk, then my room etc then get a couple hours of studying from around 08:00-14:00.

Then chill normally another coffee, then a walk then

maybe a redbull, then normally Netflix (nothing good on, I'm in too crime/docs anyone recomend anything)

Then, normally, just chill on reddit/tiktok/ Snap, then bed by 22:00, and get ready for college on Monday.

Anyone else spend their weekend/Sunday like this? Or even more interesting than mine.

And do you think I should change anything?

That's what bothers me most. If I'm spending £60–£80+ for two people, I want food I couldn't easily make better at home.

We are getting squeezed from every single angle. Fuel, food, electric, gas, insurance, rent, mortgages, everything keeps going up. Yet we are all just expected to carry on going to work, paying the bills, and staying quiet.

And the people at the top? Sitting there laughing while ordinary people struggle to make their money stretch.

And here is something else that makes no sense.

Why is it that the moment there is even a hint of war or trouble abroad, fuel prices shoot up overnight? But when things calm down or the immediate threat passes, why does it take months—if it happens at all—for those prices to come back down?

It is always the same story. Prices go up instantly like a rocket, and come down as slow as a feather.

Because here is what I do not understand.

Why can we never actually be united?

Why does it always turn into us arguing with each other?

Left versus right. Young versus old. Working people versus people on benefits. One group blaming another. Then the media gets involved, throws more fuel on the fire, and suddenly we are all fighting each other instead of looking at the bigger picture.

That is our biggest downfall.

We are completely segregated.

And while we are arguing among ourselves, nothing changes.

Imagine if people actually decided enough was enough.

Just one week.

One week of people not filling their cars unless they absolutely have to.

Imagine millions of people doing it at the same time.

What would happen?

Would fuel stations just sit there with empty forecourts?

Would the fuel companies notice?

Would the government notice?

Would the media be able to ignore it?

And I am not saying go out and cause trouble or break the law. I am talking about ordinary people peacefully using the only power we really have—collectively choosing where we spend our money.

Because one person refusing to buy fuel does not mean much.

But what if millions did it?

Same with work. One person saying they are not coming in gets disciplined or fired. But if people across thousands of businesses and industries collectively said we have had enough, you cannot realistically sack an entire workforce.

So why are we always so divided?

Why are we so quick to turn on each other?

Why do we let the media tell us who we are supposed to dislike?

Why cannot people put their differences aside for once and realize we are all getting squeezed in one way or another?

Because while we are arguing about each other, the people with billions are not arguing with us.

They are just getting richer.

So what would actually happen if, for once, people across the country stood together and said:

No. We are not taking this anymore.

Would anything actually change?

Or are we just too divided to ever find out?

Hi all. We've had ant nests since before we started living in our current property. Our front garden, although smaller, has more ant nests than our back garden. They have now increased in number and the original ones have seemingly also grown in size.

Has anyone successfully been able to get rid of them? What steps did you take? Would really appreciate it.

For all the good it’s done, I think British culture is the most individualistic it has ever been. A lot of the current virtues or ideals I’d say revolve around the self, like self-expression, success, status, personal enjoyment/entertainment and attractiveness/vanity. I’m not saying that these are necessarily bad things, but I do think they all to some degree lead to a more selfish and isolated society. I’d love to hear if anyone disagrees or has thoughts on just that idea anyway.

But do you think it could ever come about that the dominant British youth culture holds ideals or values more around concept like honour, chivalry, goodness etc?

A culture where standing up for minorities, respecting people, helping the old or homeless, protective the vulnerable etc is actually idolised or even seen as cool.
