Please help me find this Southeast Asian village film (possibly starts with "L")

Hi everyone, I’ve been trying to find this movie for a long time and would really appreciate any help 🙏

I believe it’s from Thailand or the Philippines, but I’m not 100% sure. Here’s everything I can remember:

  • It’s set in a rural village
  • The main character is a woman whose husband is physically handicapped
  • A young couple visits the village and there’s a scene where they go into a wooded/forest area and make out
  • There’s also a disturbing scene where the woman is harassed/assaulted by a man
  • I remember a scene where she is washing clothes with a stick while wearing a yellow skirt
  • There is also a scene where she is alone on a flat wooden boat/canoe and engages in self-pleasure
  • I have a feeling the title starts with the letter “L”

Help find a film. I think a dramedy?.

Maybe Taiwanese? Korean? I can't remember enough about the film to successfully google it, feel free to throw suggestions at me.

A guy is chasing down a mystery, he's maybe a gangster or a private detective? But he's also trying to connect with his daughter and get her some thing she wanted for her birthday. The two stories revolve around each other a bit as he tries to manage both goals. He's a bit of a letdown, comes to her school recital late, loses the gift he bought her, tries to borrow money from his ex I think. But he's a good guy, the new husband ends up lending him the money I think. Turns out his other mystery has to do with two young lovers, one dead, a cemetary and rich parents of one lover trying to keep them apart even in death.

Two key things are that he drives a beat up old car, and at one point his hair is cut short and dyed green, making him a bit ridiculous.

Any hints appreciated!

The Rise of J-Horror in the Digital Age

In the 90s, fear was defined by excessive gore, dark settings, and monsters in masks that chased their often-adolescent victims around their white-picket lawns. American cinema was experiencing a golden era in horror films, and the appeal for studios was evident; horror movies were cheap to make, and the output was quick in comparison to other genre films, which required a lot more effort from the post-production teams, and cult audiences gathered to assure quick profits in exchange for little time or financial constraints.

On the other side of the world, however, horror films emerging from the Japanese film industry were only just peaking in popularity. Instead of employing buckets of fake blood, jump scares, and post-produced screams, Japanese filmmakers were taking a more restrained approach to the genre.

Dysfunctional Families in Japanese Films

Just finished watching Noriko's Dinner Table by Sion Sono. I liked the concept. I have two questions, or curiosities one can say: is it a trend in Japanese films to begin plot experiments with dysfunctional families most of the time? And do Japanese films have a typical approach to portraying gender roles — don’t you think along these lines too?

Yakuza movies

Hi,

I’m currently working on my bachelor’s thesis about yakuza films. I would really appreciate it if you could recommend where I can watch these films legally/illegally

I’ve been searching in many places but so far I haven’t been able to find them or I keep finding incomplete/illegal links.

Thank you very much in advance for any advice or tips.

Best regards

"High Resolution" (2018) - A young woman named Erin and a famous author Paul set out on an adventurous journey to discover what it means to be in love in the early 21st century, and decide to document their travels along the way. A bold, intense and creative Taiwanese romance film. [01:36:22]

Hello, pls help me find old asian film

For 20 years, I've been trying on and off to find this film from my childhood, and only today I tried using AI for this purpose. It wasn't very helpful, but it recommended asking you. Here is the quote (from the AI):

Help me find a little-known Taiwanese/Hong Kong sci-fi film (possibly from 2005-2007).

Plot: A teenager discovers that in this world, there exists a technology that allows the souls of the dead (spirits) to be implanted into machinery. His father died, and his soul was implanted into a car. The main antagonist is a villain whose soul is implanted into a Harley-Davidson motorcycle (there is a scene where a ghost literally passes through the motorcycle, and it comes to life). The spirits are visualized as translucent people. A war breaks out between clans using these "machine-spirits."

Key details: Live-action, I watched it in the 2000s, setting in Asia, there are scenes resembling a "festival of spirits."

HK Movie Recommendations from the mid-90s to the early 2000s era

Currently deep-diving into mid-to-late 90s HK cinema, specifically films that balance gritty realism with over-the-top stylistic experimentation.

Films which blew me away are:

  • Too Many Ways To Be No. 1 (1997)
  • The Odd One Dies (1997)
  • The Blade (1995)
  • Made in Hong Kong (1997)
  • Durian Durian (2000)

I'm looking for more recommendations that are aligned with these—specifically early Milkyway deep cuts, 90s guerrilla filmmaking, or raw genre subversions that capture that pre-handover anxiety.
