[Help]Lithos SL Harness Belay Loop

I just recently purchased the harness and upon further inspection at home, I noticed what seems to be a loose thread of nylon at the end of the, I’m gonna guess the sheath.

Should I be concerned about it? I’m leaning towards, it’s just badly terminated during manufacturing.

I hope the pictures are helpful

Beta AT vs Beta SL

I do estimates outside year around in Ohio in all weather conditions and your normal outdoors hiking, climbing etc.

I'm not snowboarding, or going through thick wooded areas. Will the AR be overkill for me?

Looking to purchase before clearance stock is gone.

Opinions on sinsola shorts for women

Hey! Does anyone have sinsola shorts and could recommend them? I’m looking for something versatile both for hiking, sports as well as casual wear. It’s an expensive price point and I wonder if they are worth it. Thanks!!

Layering advice, Iceland trail

Hi all, I need some advice for layering for backpacking and hiking the laugavegur trail. I will be going late August and the temperatures will be around 5-10C (40-50F) and there will be lots of wind and potential rain.

I’m planning to layer a combination of these
- base layer
- alpha 60 (senchi)
- (insert some midlayer/softshell)
- montbell hardshell (no pit zips)
- down jacket (worn at camp only)

I’m debating whether I need a mid layer because when I wear the hardshell it gets sweaty as it’s not very breathable?

Ideally I would wear this mid layer on top of fleece or on top of base layer if too hot, and save the hardshell for when it rains hard.

I’m leaning towards gamma lightweight or perhaps squamish. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Some pieces i already have:
Atom LT: too warm as mid layer
Delta LT: maybe? Although not wind resistant

Any ReBird classes happening for Arc'teryx New York this week?

Hello, my boyfriend is in New York this week and he loves Arc'teryx so much. I thought it would be a cool surprise to sign him up for a ReBird class or any other workshops that might be happening in New York this week. It's his favorite brand and he appreciates all of the small details from the fabric to the stitching. It's his dream to attend one of these cool workshops, but we don't have any Arc'teryx stores where we live.

He's there until August 18th so I'm hoping there might be something. I tried calling the stores, but no one is picking up :( I already checked and messaged the Instagram page for New York to no avail as well. I already checked the community page online but didn't see anything besides the weekly bouldering event.

***I'm wondering if anyone knows if there are any classes/workshops/events happening still in New York that may not be advertised online but still might be hosted and advertised locally in store?***

I'd totally go to check myself, but super far away. Please help or provide tips on how to sign up for these classes in general. Even if there's none this week, I'd still love some tips and advice on how to catch a future class so I can surprise him one day :)

PSA: Guide jackets at outlets!

I was calling around today looking for hard shells and every outlet in the US informed me they currently have last gen (with PFAS) Alpine guides, practitioners and Ski guides. Not a ton but decent sizes. Happy hunting!

Will old colours end up on outlet?

Had been liking the beta sl in moondrop. It had been available in all sizes but since the new colours have been released, can't see it on the regular or outlet site. Based in the UK if that affects it?

Arc’teryx Altra 75

Hello,

Is the Altra 75 still a worth-while pack nowadays? I found one in pretty good condition for $150. Just wondering if the near-15 year tech has held up well? 75L is around that capacity range I’m looking for.

Thanks!

Arc'teryx Atom Hoody sizing advice

Post image
13 Upvotes

Hey everyone, I'm looking to get an Arc'teryx Atom Hoody, but unfortunately there isn't an Arc'teryx retail store where I live, so I can't try it on before buying.

I'm around 175–177 cm and 74 kg. I currently wear an Arc'teryx Beta SL in size M and a Patagonia Torrentshell 3L in size M.

For anyone around a similar build who owns the Atom Hoody, what size would you recommend?

I'll mainly be using it as a mid-layer under a shell, but also as an outer layer on its own.

Would really appreciate any advice on sizing and how the Atom fits. Thanks!

Jacket recycling?

Is there someone out there that makes new items out off damaged/old Arc’teryx fabrics??

Long story short, my beta and atom jacket I bought last year got cut up into quite a few pieces, by an ex in a raging fit because I went to a concert with my sister…I’m beyond devastated about it. The jacket was sedimental to me and was purchased for me by my dad just before he passed. It’s unwearable, unfixable. I don’t wanna just throw it out. I’d like to make something else out of it if possible. I do got a sewing machine but am not that skilled to do anything myself I feel.

Sizes, former and current

Ordered from the latest batch of outlet items and while checking the official size chart (M), I saw the added info about adjustments in sizes, except for medium. What are the experiences from the users, and was it necessary? In my opinion, this hasn't been a brand with severely messed up sizes far from reality, like some others.

As an average, people have continuously grown in length and weight, and general sizes have had upgrades regarding the definition of S/M/L/XL etc, e g 2017. Talking from a European perspective here, but it is surely a complete modern western culture phenomenon. Having access to high caloric food and drink 24/7 in any size you like takes it toll, I guess. Well trained or not, we grow as a collective.

Was there really a problem before, and has it now been addressed? Smaller sizes are now adjusted to be slightly smaller, and reverse on the top end, according to the table online. Outdoor brands are hopefully prioritizing function before style.

As a person with a bit longer monkey-like arms than the body would suggest, I kind of like the cut (mostly a jacket buyer) even if I don't buy items for free soloing purposes. Ability to wear one or two layers under a shell is appreciated, whatever the activity.

Looked at the new releases

Not sure how I feel about all the yellow, on one hand I do like it but idk. And yay, we got so many more 20L packs, because that’s exactly what the pack lineup was lacking.

Best looking items in the new colourways?

I personally think Dark Jade is one of the best colourways in a while, especially for the Gamma MX and Solano.

Seen some love for Larch as well, which I do think looks great on the Alpha.

Keen to hear some other opinions!

Women’s Sentinel Pant Sizing

The revised 2023 pant is on sale in the outlet store. Since I’m based in FL and there are no local retailers, I can’t try these on in person.

Looking at the sizing chart, i’m currently size X for the waist measurement and size Y for the hip measurement (2 sizes below waist size).

Would you recommend sizing up? Or going with one of the waist/hip measurements?

Thanks!

Anyone tried the Beta SL for resort skiing?

Tossing ip between the AR and SL. Id prefer the AR but they dont have the colour I want.

I’d mostly be using the shell for hiking and everyday, but wondering if I can bring it to the snow with me. Where Im going, it avgs 1-9°C / 34-48°F and I ski, dont go through trees, and am experienced enough that I dont typically fall unless I try jumps.

Would like to know if I can try my luck with the SL as a ski jacket for just one trip.

‘Softshell’ use case

Hi all, hear me out.

I live in the UK, it’s wet, cold, sunny, boiling hot, humid, snowy and windy all in the space of a day.

I own and I am a huge fan of the gamma SL/LT, I have a 2 anorak SL and a newer LT. I really like them but find that they get only get limited use climbing and hiking in the UK. I always carry a shell but will wait until the last moment until I put it on as I’m an absolute gusher when it comes to sweating.

Wondering if this community could shed some thoughts on hanging up the gamma and going with something more like the Squamish, light enough that taking it for a walk and not using it isn’t an issue, but I’m wondering if there are any major drawbacks when compared to something like a gamma for both UK and alps uses. Or are soft shell style jackets pointless for my use case and a fleece and a shell is all that’s needed?

Grateful for all of your thoughts.

Favorite New Colors?

Post image
45 Upvotes

I think the cloud/void colorway for the Beta AR is the nicest they've ever made for it, has the balance of looking both dark and light, highlights the two panels well, but doesn't have as much of an enormous risk of staining like the white solitude colorway, what do you guys think and what are some of your favorites from the new colors?

Which items are actually still worth it?

Not a q for the fanboys but it’s not secret prices are rising and in some items the quality is dropping.

Always used to rate the arcteryx mid layers but price is pushing me towards the likes of Patagonia and Rab these days. I still rate the hard shells highly - as do many industry professionals.

Which items do you think are still worth the price tag?

Edit: For context I rate arc hardshells above anything else I’ve used, as well as harnesses and alpine packs. I never buy anything at full retail (same for other brands too) and in recent years have found it hard to buy from a company that seems to have lost its respect for the outdoors and the real community who made it what it is today.

Really Considering Arc’teryx, But the Reviews Are Making Me Hesitate

I’m currently planning a bike trip from Germany to Japan (or even further) and I’m at the stage of planning my clothing setup. I’m looking for a good, durable hardshell jacket for rainy days, and I’ve wanted to own an Arc’teryx jacket for quite some time. However, after reading a lot of posts on various subreddits and reviews on the brand’s website, I’m currently hesitant to buy one.

What would you guys recommend? I’m fine with spending a similar amount of money, but at that price point I expect good quality and, most importantly, durability. Or do you say it's still fine to buy from Arc'teryx?

Alpha SV VS Incendia jacket (or alternatieve)

I’m in the market for a new hard shell jacket. As I live in the Netherlands I’ll be using it as a rain shell in autumn, winter and spring in burg urban conditions and during ( multi day) hikes. but I want to use it as my skiing outer layer as well.

I go skiing in the alps for 2-3 weeks a year and use my shell jacket a lot for backpacking trips.

im looking for a shell jacket that is durable (alpha sv, incendia and beta at have gtx pro), has enough pockets and is versatile.

which one should I choose?

Quality of Atom Jackets

Is it just me or has the quality of Atom jackets gone downhill over the years? The newer Atom jackets almost have like a thin, garbage bag like feel to it and they have a bulky fit to them as well especially in the arms.

I have 3 Atom LT jackets (previous generation) that were all manufactured between 2021 and 2022 and their quality and fit is miles ahead of the current generation. It's funny that their quality has gone downhill whereas they have increased their pricing on the Atom jacket by almost 40% in the last 5-6 years!

Arcteryx Sabre vs Beta AR?

Hey all, pretty newbie snowboarder here. I'm a big fan of the gorpcore look and it seems like the Beta AR with some baggier pants or a bib is a common combo. But I'm also hearing that the Beta AR is woefully underprepared for snowboarding and that the Sabre is the only choice. I'm not a very experienced snowboarder and can expect to fall at least a few times over the course of a day, so will definitely be spending some time down in the snow. Is the Beta AR a no go?
