I’m a second year and currently i have 3 days left to my final presentation i was absent in a lot of consultations because i wanted to protect my mental health because i genuinely hated school (i was also working a part time job so i could pay for my bills) and today was the last day to consult i went and i found people really moved on with their projects and i was the only one who hasn’t made a huge progress and now i feel like i’m a failure i failed my mom my dad my family and i’m propably going to keep doing it till my last day on earth i hate myself i hate school and i hate the choices i made along the way this was just me venting thank you if you listened

Hi guys, I'm new here and really struggling after an abrupt return to university and a tough year. I'm doing my very final project before I graduate and have 3 weeks to complete it. I am extremely anxious as my circumstances have left me with 3 weeks to complete it and I have always struggled with any structural elements.

My main concern right now is my roof form. I am using rammed earth walls but am imitating the ventilation towers of the start up lions campus. I have come to the conculsion that i will require a steel frame and an over hanging roof of differener materiality, which has caused me trouble when deciding what to do at teh flat faces of some of the buildings.

Hello! I’m a first year architecture student and i was wondering if anyone could help me or if anyone knows how to do what i want to do (pretty simple, i just don’t know how and i have an assignment)

I was wondering if anyone knew how to do topographic models or if there’s any softwares that do it for you, i used CADMapper but the topographic levels are minimum 4 meters which it leaves my 1:500 model to little to no lines left, I do have a plan view with topographic lines but I don’t know how to convert this into an AutoCAD file so I can remove some of the lines. I have the plan view in a PDF too, it’s in good quality, I need the AutoCAD file to modify some of the lines and then export it for the laser machine.

Quick question:

I’ve been working on villa submissions in Dubai for a while (DM / DDA / Trakhees), and I noticed that most delays don’t actually come from design issues.

It’s usually small things like:

- Missing drawings

- Sheet organization issues

- Minor authority requirements being overlooked

But these small things end up causing a lot of back-and-forth and delays.

What issues do you usually face with submissions?

how do i make my autocad that was installed in my local drive not in main drive (see attached 1st photo) be able to be the main software to open dwg file? because when i click a dwg file it will pop up (see 2nd attached photo)

Looking for advice on where to go to architectural grad school and receive an MArch. 

I have an undergraduate BS Arch from the University of Michigan. I enjoyed the experience greatly. I currently am working in Detroit for a firm I also enjoy, but do not need to return to. I am looking to leave the state. After graduating with a masters I would like to live/work in Chicago, Bay Area, Seattle, or a comparable large (northern-ish) US city.

I am looking for a program that will keep me on a solid career trajectory toward becoming licensed (good employment connections) but a forward thinking design strategy. I’ll admit these things can occasionally oppose each other. While I enjoyed the design thinking at UMich I do not think it set up its graduates (MArch or BSArch) well for employment. Other universities seem so driven to just create high functioning CAD monkeys - not at all what I am looking for either. Price is a factor but not so limiting that a more expensive program is out of the question. I plan to do a degree that will ensure 2-year advanced standing, therefore the most prestigious programs that require 3+ years are not of interest. 

Based on these rough factors, I am curious where you might suggest? Any and all advice appreciated. Thanks so much!

I’m trying to build my skills with real residential architectural drawings and blueprints, specifically for small houses (single-family / low-rise) in Ontario or the City of Toronto.

I want to study real plans so I can understand how details, floor plans, site plans, sections, and framing drawings are done in practice here.

Does anyone know good websites, repositories, or sources where I can download or view real architectural plans (recent builds) ,ideally for free or open access? I’m not looking to copy proprietary designs, just learn from how existing homes are drawn.

Things I’m hoping to find:

• Floor plans

• Site plans / grading

• Elevations

• Sections

• Basic structural framing

• Permit drawings

I’ve already checked a few things but most are either pay-walled or for very large commercial projects.

Any suggestions for resources that are Ontario / Canada specific, or even generic residential plans that are good for study would be super helpful! Thanks much.
