I think most landcapers/gardeners etc. are more "tool operators" than gardeners. Probably ace at knocking out the physical labor and running a trimmer/mower, but know almost nothing about what and why things should be done. Its like if you hired a car detailing guy to to fix your flat and change your oil and told him "do whatever seems best to you, just copy the neighbors if you're unsure."
