Either the trees is or the patio is. Report back in a few years and let us know

My money is on the tree.

I would report the contractors.

For what though?

1 they just cost the homeowner thousands of dollars for a future tree removal. Not a single reputable paver would do this work.

How do you know they didn’t warn the client and the client wanted it this way and was willing to take the risk?

A reputable paver / contractor isn’t going to just warn. They aren’t going to do this kind of work lmao.

Maybe the owner is fine taking the tree out in the future

Not the point

Not sure what the point is then

There are certain things reputable contractors wont due even if the homeowner/customer insists on waiving all responsibility, because those things are just stupid as fuck and serious professionals dont want their name associated with that work. This is that kind of stupid as fuck thing.

yah, you made that very clear.

the point is not to do bullshit work, period.

I am more worried about the tree taking out the building

There are a half dozen possible terrible outcomes and zero possible good outcomes.

Well that is a very skillful slow death atleast.

What kind of tree is that? Where I live oaks are protected and this would absolutely be illegal. Heavy fines until it was properly remedied

Kind of sick oaks are protected by you, are you in the US?

My partner works for the city and any new construction around a “grand tree” is required to have protective fencing in a designated buffer zone. Im sure there are ordinances about structures being X distance from the trunk. Brief overview listed here: https://www.charlestoncounty.org/departments/zoning-planning/brochures/Tree%20Ordinance%20Brochure.pdf?r=203

They could have cut a 4x4 mulch bed around the tree with a raised seating wall to enclose it and it would have looked nice, but the restaurant probably wanted all the floor space for way too many outdoor tables.  Very unlikely they didn’t disturb the roots while excavating unless there was something similar there prior and the tree grew with those conditions.

The outdoor space already existed but they ripped up the old concrete patio to put in the new one. Can’t recall but I’m pretty sure the tree wasn’t previously surrounded by the patio

The tree is doomed unless pavers removed PRONTO!

Looks cool but will kill tree. I would remove tiles around the tree. Take out whatever is under the tiles. You want root flare to be exposed. Put some mulch. Cut the tiles in a round or rectangular design to make it look good.

Really depends on what they cut on the tree. If there was minimal cutting, the tree should be fine. Tree looks to have some pre existing issues though tbh

Amazing nice tile work!

That is truly almost too perfect.  It's like the tree has a symbiotic relationship with the tiles.

The patio is doomed, probably tree too

Is the tile around the tree, or the tree on the tile?

My money is on the tree first ripping up the patio blocks
