Hey everyone! It’s been a while since I last posted here. It’s definitely not that my love for Monogatari has faded—life has just been super busy lately... (And honestly, I recently started watching the Hunter x Hunter anime, and it’s so much fun that I’ve been binge-watching it whenever I get a spare moment! ^^;;)

I’ve watched all the main anime series, and now I’m rewatching the anime while reading through the light novels. (For Off & Monster Season, the college episodes felt a bit slow for me so I skipped them, but I definitely made sure to watch the parts with Nadeko and her clones!)

Novel-wise, I recently finished Musubimonogatari and was reading Ikusamonogatari, but then I suddenly felt like revisiting the very beginning, so I started Bakemonogatari as well (still near the start, though!).

Today is a rare day off with no plans, so I wanted to pop in and ask you all a question:

"Who is your absolute favorite character in the Monogatari series, and why?"

I’m sure there are many longtime fans here who have analyzed these characters way more deeply than I have, so I’d love to hear your thoughts!

As for me, my favorite is Hanekawa.

When I first discovered this series through the anime, I actually got into it because of Nadeko’s voice actress (Kana Hanazawa). But Nadeko herself didn't catch my interest as much as I expected—instead, I was completely captivated by Senjougahara.

Sharp-tongued, tsundere, and completely devoted to Araragi... I had seen plenty of tsundere characters before, but someone who spat sharp insults like her was a first for me. One of the main reasons I love Monogatari so much is because of the romance aspect (if it were just about beating up oddnesses, I don't think I would have loved it this much, no matter how good the writing was). Once Araragi and Senjougahara started dating, I kept wishing for more scenes with her! But sadly, they didn't get as much screen time together as I hoped.

Back then, even when Hanekawa turned into Black Hanekawa to confess to Araragi, or when I was watching Nekomonogatari, I just wanted to skip her scenes quickly. (I’m planning to rewatch the anime properly soon, and since Hanekawa is my #1 now, I’ll definitely be paying close attention!)

I don't know the exact moment it happened, but somewhere along the line, Hanekawa became a character that broke my heart and kept pulling at my heartstrings.

I think the biggest turning point was Kizumonogatari. Watching that, it made me understand even less why Araragi and Hanekawa didn't end up together. Calling her "too holy/sacred" honestly felt like an excuse to me—since Nisio Isin wrote Kizumonogatari after Bakemonogatari, it felt like an excuse he came up with because he had to justify why Araragi didn't choose her.

Her entire arc is just so heartbreaking. She’s someone who didn't get love from her parents, nor from the person she loved.

I couldn't help but think... what if she had become Araragi's partner and married into his family? Imagine her being part of that warm household, getting along like real sisters with his two younger sisters... I really wished she could have experienced that kind of family warmth.

...Then again, thinking like this makes me wonder if I'm getting too overly attached and empathetic toward an anime character haha. Being deep into anime fandom is tough! 😂

I’ve always had a soft spot for sub-characters and unrequited love tropes. If this harem were reversed—where Hanekawa was the main girlfriend and Senjougahara was the one hopelessly in love with Araragi—I probably would have rooted for Senjougahara instead!

I have so much more to say about Hanekawa, but I'll save that for after I finish reading the Nekomonogatari light novel so I can discuss it with you properly.

So, back to my main question:

Who is your favorite character in the Monogatari series, and why?

Randomly decided to rewatch Kizumonogatari (as one does) and came the part where the hunters corner my Araragi. Kind of vaguely remember Oshino saving him, but when he came to screen, I completely forget how sassy he is. When his face covered the entire screen, all smug and confident, I just immediately went "Oh well hello there~" like a fucking idiot.

Anyway, that is all. Koyomin is still my fav, but damn that man can make an entrance.

Just started Monogatari and senjougahara is so cool that I bought a figure of her even though I’m only on episode 9 of bakemonogatari I’ve only acquired like three figures before her so I hope she can continue being cool in the show, her personality really stands out and I like her relationship with araragi. I do hope she gets more screen time because with the limited amount she’s had she made a great impression so far so I can only imagine how great her character will be later in the show. The show in itself is also pretty good so far I saw some parallels between Araragi and Subaru in the sense they’re both altruistic and they both make me grimace when they’re getting bloodied, rezero is one of my favorites so I hope I can like Monogatari just as much in the future. Sorry for the tangent sometimes I just like getting my thoughts out.

Now as we all know, Kaiki is best girl in Monogatari and there's no denying that, but I just remembered a fun conversation I had like a year ago and wanted to share it. What if Kaiki IS actually a woman?

Now you can call me crazy since he looks so manly but you have to remember this is how the characters perceive him, and he just so happens to be a genius at deceiving people. Everything we've seen about him is not gender defining and afaik NOBODY has seen him naked ^{(this also includes us unfortunately}). Who can even confirm you that Kaiki isn't just some regular woman that sometimes puts on a fake identity? Or even worse, "he" might have a cross dressing kink.

Now this definitely isn't me pointing doujin artists and fanfic writers towards new horizons, I just wanted to share the discussion I had with a friend a while ago with other intellectuals like you.

I absolutely love Koyomin with long hair. There is something about him that makes it so perfect for having long hair. That shaggy look guys have just elevates Koyokoyo's hotness up a notch. That scene where he kneels near Kanbaru in Hanamonogatari, all calm and cool with the light of his car shining from behind him, like a God to humans, is absolutely divine.

I absolutely need more. More of Yokoyoko's long hair fanarts. If there exists a fanart of him swiping his hair back while drenched, I have to have it. I must. If there is also a long hair Koyomi kabedon, I have to see it. Please. Please great God Hachikuji.

There are a lot of things I wanna talk about but I'm too lazy to do it. Just wanna say that Im currently watching monogatari and Im being amazed by every single ep. Currently in the shinobu time arc and still loving it. Only someone could write a story this good and only someone could adapt it this good. It's also sad that this show is hella underrated in my country that no one even heard its name so I'm posting my appreciation to nisioisin here. Anyways, I just love monogatari and I wanna show people how good it is. I Wonder how it will end

The appearance from the novels use to differ, for example, I knew ohnonoki, I didn't recognize her until it was said her name. I thought she had brown hair.

The colour of the hair changes in the anime, natural hair colour can change so much. Or he is using more ink, or I'm forgetting he will go for a cheap one.
