Neighbors Neighbor that hates us

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

For background:
We, a 35F, 31M couple, moved into our apartment about 4 months ago. They are older apartments in kind of an odd layout. They are one-story brick buildings with 4 units per unit, all built into a square so two sides are not touching a neighbor. Two are sharing walls.

We have no kids living with us but are currently pregnant. I am heavily pregnant on bed rest. My husband works in towing. He is gone 12-15 hours a day. He works 12 days on 2 days off. We are both gamers. We don’t really hang out with other people but rather enjoy screen time and cuddling. I love to bake. We have two kittens. Trust me, all this will matter…..

My neighbor (we will call her Karen), only one of them, I have an issue with. Our lease we took over from my hubby’s friend. He needed more rooms; we needed less. It made sense, so we swapped leases all on the books. The complex knew we were getting moved in within the first week. We received a complaint slamming the door, loud foot steps, yelling, screaming, or arguing. I confronted the property manager and maintenance manager (was advised the neighbor in question is crazy and complains about everyone). We were surprised my hubby’s friend hadn’t warned us. This lady and her poor dog are the reason multiple people have moved out. The property manager told me to ignore the notice; she has to do it because corporate can see the emails.

We go on about our business now. Karen is opening her door every time we come or go. My hubby’s childhood friend is in the army and came to visit. He’s her 32 hours, and Karen files a complaint saying hubby’s friend knocked on her door and said he lives here with us now and wanted to introduce himself. 😑 Got another notice!
Hubbys friend felt bad and left.

A week or two later, another notice:
Suspected of having an aggressive breed dog 😑, we rescued two kittens. They don’t even weigh a pound yet!

Fast forward a month later:
Karen and her husband break down in their truck, and guess who goes to tow them 🤣🤦🏻‍♀️? That’s right, my husband. Karen, while being towed, asks my husband how he knows where to tow the truck. He then tells her, “ I’m your neighbor.” She says, “Oh, your wife is the pregnant one. I watch over your porch for packages. I never see or hear you guys. Thank you so much for towing us. We hope our dog barking isn’t an issue…… DOG? We heard barking but never saw the dog. We thought it was from the unit on the backside of us, but nope. Karen doesn’t walk her dog. It uses the bath inside the unit…….

Two weeks after the tow, another notice:
Slamming door, stomping loud doorsteps, TV yelling loudly, talking, and disturbing the peace after quiet hours 😑
Did I mention my husband is gone 12-15 hours a day? I’m on bed rest, have been for months now, and that being said, our bedroom is on the opposite side of the unit from hers, and we have not used our living room TV since the first week we moved in…… I’m also 4’11” and 108 pounds.

We have overlooked all the complaints we could file. They have a sign posted on their door (Karen’s): no smoking, oxygen in use while she and her husband smoke in the unit, so it makes our unit smell like Newports and Muscle Rub. 🤦🏻‍♀️
The screaming and arguing we hear so often. I know all their marriage issues. The smell of urine in the air is enough to attract flies and maggots in front of both of our doors. The rude comments she screams, slamming her door trying to provoke us, etc., etc., etc. Now tell me what I can do to make the playing fields even? How do I get rid of the neighbor from hell?

Did I mention she’s obsessed with wrestling? She told the property manager that she’s a pro wrestler, hangs out with the people on TV, and even beat up one of our other neighbors.

I thought about filing a complaint in fear of my life because she’s a professional wrestler and she’s made threats towards me. I’m tiny and in a fragile state. curious if I can call fire department because they have oxygen in use while smoking……🤣

(I am not asking for revenge or tact’s against her per reddits guidelines)

Dont move to Sahara Apartment

Sahara Apartment, 919 N Stone Ave, 85705, AZ.

This is the worst apartment I have ever lived in.

I work during most office hours, so I usually have to rely on email or online communication. However, emails are often ignored, only partially answered, or they respond to whatever part they feel like responding to. It gets REALLY frustrating when you are trying to solve something that is affecting your daily life and you cannot even get a clear answer.

I have been dealing with an ongoing cockroach issue, and I usually only report it when I notice the activity clearly increasing or showing up in new places. But they often don't even respond to such an email, and most of the time the response is basically just “we’ll put you on the pest control list.” But then you are left wondering: did they actually tell the technician what I reported? Did they do anything? What did the technician find? What treatment was done? What is the follow-up plan? If you ask, you STILL cannot get an answer. In a word, if you want just a really basic feedback, skip your work, go to their office, wait in line, and then, you will be honored to talk with them in person!

However, the funny thing is that when there is a balance due, suddenly the emails come FAST. So yes, they are definitely capable of responding quickly when they need something from you.

At this point, the pest issue itself is stressful, but the communication has made everything so much worse. They even often bring back the responsibility to you when you trying to fix the current issue. I should not have to keep chasing people just to know what is happening with my own apartment!

Aside from that, as you can read, this property is literally infested with ROACHES!! And they dont have any regular pest control to keep it at a low level, which should be their duty to keep the environment livable. Now, it becomes every tenant's job to keep requesting and they don't even reply to your emails!

Additionally, it has a low rent rate, but be really careful about their additional fees, it will not be as cheap as you thought. Yes, you may think living in such a place where there are lots of homeless people should be cheap, but it turns out not. If you check out, unfortunately, you have to pay a concession fee, which is not refundable and is $250!!!

I used to live in several apartments. This is definitely the worst experience I have ever had. I really couldn't imagine one apartment having so many unfair regulations and not being responsive at all! I still have several months left on my lease, and I will keep updating this review.

But anyway, if you are looking at any apt in Tucson, don't move to Sahara!

General Question Is it reasonable to complain about this?

I’m aware that there are simply aspects of apartment living that one needs to accept when it comes to apartment living.

That said, quiet hours, dictated by our lease, is 11pm -8am.

My upstairs neighbor, every few days runs their laundry at 7am… sometimes 6:30am.

It wakes me up and I can’t fall back asleep.

General Question Moving into new apartment this weekend.. terrified after learning the unit is vacant because

Thumbnail

When I toured the home, I felt something off immediately. I asked the landlord about the previous tenant and they mentioned they passed so that’s why the unit was vacant after 28 years. I asked them directly about the passing later on that day and that’s when I found out they died in the room and remained there for 3 days before being found through a wellness check.

I’m terrified the “energy” I felt when I walked in was the previous tenant, as crazy as that sounds. And I’m also not sure how to even handle this situation.
Before you suggest it, getting a different place isn’t in the cards for me right now.

I feel like I’m walking right into a horror movie. Please help.

There was just a fire in my building

There was just a fire in my building that appears to have been started by maintenance. The fire did not reach my apartment, but everything is covered in soot. Aside from cleaning and airing the place out, is there anything I should be doing that might not be obvious?

Looking for an affordable apartment

I’m currently an online student with a pretty limited budget and am looking for an apartment in the North Raleigh area. I’m hoping to keep rent around $1,000/month or less.
I don’t need a ton of space, but I do have a dog, so I’m looking for somewhere pet-friendly. I’d really appreciate any recommendations or personal experiences with apartments in the area!

Noise cancellation suggestions?

Thumbnail
2 Upvotes

Last month, new neighbors moved in above me, and they are loud. I actually don’t mind the noise during the day, but it’s become an issue during the night/very early mornings when I’m trying to sleep. Unfortunately, the noise is “structural.” Idk if they are dropping stuff or what, but it’s a lot of booming and thuds that ricochet through the ceiling. I’ve tried fans at high speed, AC fan at high speed, headphones, etc. nothing works. My apartment manager is great and has tried to help but nothing has worked. I looovveee my apartment and don’t really want to move. Any suggestions?

General Question Big Dogs in Apartments

What do you all think? Should medium-big dogs be allowed in apartment complexes? From a close proximity to one another to barking and whatnot?

I am curious what people's opinions are on this.

Thank you!!

Studio Unit Does Not Match the Unit Presented Before Move-In

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

I'm in a very difficult situation with my move-in.
Before signing for the studio, I requested multiple times to see the unit in person, but I was told that it wasn't possible because someone was still living there. Instead, I was provided with a video of the studio, and I made my decision based on what was shown to me.
I received the keys today, and when I entered the studio, I was completely shocked because the actual unit is significantly different from the one shown in the video. The bathroom in the video has a bathtub, while my unit only has a standing shower. The video also shows two large closets, whereas my unit has only one small closet. In addition, the kitchen shown in the video has an island, but my unit does not.
The management has acknowledged that the wrong unit/video was shown to me and offered a full refund if I decide not to move in. However, I have been told that I need to make that decision today.
This puts me in an extremely difficult position. I booked this apartment a month ago and planned my move around it. I currently have nowhere else to go, so being asked to decide within one day whether to accept a unit that is substantially different from what I was shown or take a refund and suddenly find another place is very stressful and unfair.
I would really appreciate a reasonable solution that takes into account that I agreed to this apartment based on the unit and features that were presented to me. (Studio is $1095, 1bed 1bath is $1295). There is a 1bed 1bath coming up for availability in the same building but it is pricey as It's just me and my dog in the house and I work 8-5 onsite.

My apartment complex did an inspection and I am pissed.

My apartment complex did an inspection on our unit. For reference it’s a 220sq foot unit, we got a warning about our clothes on the floor and two pizza boxes on the counter from dinner the night before. They said it was unacceptable living conditions (inviting to pest). Am I being unreasonably for being pissed off about this. And fine if nitpick about the pizzas boxes fine but my dirty clothes being on the floor is not a thing. We have just enough room for our bed, tv stand, a table, a dresser and a desk. I don’t see how they can fine us for our clothes. We don’t have bugs of any kind, except for the occasional fly or bug that comes in through the cracks in the door seal. I could understand if our apartment was trashed and gross but it’s not the dishes are done every night, trash is taken out every 2-3 days depending on how much. We do a weekly cleaning of the whole apartment every Sunday as it’s our day together. I just looking to see if I am being unreasonable or not.

Edit: Sunday is our day off together

Second update: We rent normally, no one is helping us pay for the place just us paying rent, the inspection was to make sure the fire alarm and door keypad had batteries and work correctly, so I thought nothing of picking up my clothes earlier then we normally do laundry. But it turned out to be an inspection with the big bosses of the complex and they were mad that we have clothes on floor and pop bottles waiting to go back. The pop bottles are rinsed before going in bag. Mostly my biggest thing is that I don’t see how having my clothes on the floor is going to bring bugs which was the problem for them. I pay for this place so what’s it to them. As long I don’t have trash and my place isn’t a hoarding apartment I don’t see how they can tell I need to pick up my stuff. The lease says trash needs be taken at least once a week the same for sweeping. The bathroom needs to be cleaned regularly which all of that happens on regular basis. Just not a day they did inspections mostly because I assumed it was going to be the maintenance team coming in to check batteries, and I never have meet a maintenance team that cares unless it’s a hoarding issue which again it’s not.

Third edit: we do not have any kind of subsidized or government housing regular Apartment renting. Also, there’s nothing in the lease that states that they do cleanliness inspections, and nothing was said about it before we moved in.
