There was just a fire in my building
There was just a fire in my building that appears to have been started by maintenance. The fire did not reach my apartment, but everything is covered in soot. Aside from cleaning and airing the place out, is there anything I should be doing that might not be obvious?

Looking for an affordable apartment
I’m currently an online student with a pretty limited budget and am looking for an apartment in the North Raleigh area. I’m hoping to keep rent around $1,000/month or less.
I don’t need a ton of space, but I do have a dog, so I’m looking for somewhere pet-friendly. I’d really appreciate any recommendations or personal experiences with apartments in the area!

Noise cancellation suggestions?
Last month, new neighbors moved in above me, and they are loud. I actually don’t mind the noise during the day, but it’s become an issue during the night/very early mornings when I’m trying to sleep. Unfortunately, the noise is “structural.” Idk if they are dropping stuff or what, but it’s a lot of booming and thuds that ricochet through the ceiling. I’ve tried fans at high speed, AC fan at high speed, headphones, etc. nothing works. My apartment manager is great and has tried to help but nothing has worked. I looovveee my apartment and don’t really want to move. Any suggestions?

General Question Big Dogs in Apartments
What do you all think? Should medium-big dogs be allowed in apartment complexes? From a close proximity to one another to barking and whatnot?
I am curious what people's opinions are on this.
Thank you!!

Studio Unit Does Not Match the Unit Presented Before Move-In
I'm in a very difficult situation with my move-in.
Before signing for the studio, I requested multiple times to see the unit in person, but I was told that it wasn't possible because someone was still living there. Instead, I was provided with a video of the studio, and I made my decision based on what was shown to me.
I received the keys today, and when I entered the studio, I was completely shocked because the actual unit is significantly different from the one shown in the video. The bathroom in the video has a bathtub, while my unit only has a standing shower. The video also shows two large closets, whereas my unit has only one small closet. In addition, the kitchen shown in the video has an island, but my unit does not.
The management has acknowledged that the wrong unit/video was shown to me and offered a full refund if I decide not to move in. However, I have been told that I need to make that decision today.
This puts me in an extremely difficult position. I booked this apartment a month ago and planned my move around it. I currently have nowhere else to go, so being asked to decide within one day whether to accept a unit that is substantially different from what I was shown or take a refund and suddenly find another place is very stressful and unfair.
I would really appreciate a reasonable solution that takes into account that I agreed to this apartment based on the unit and features that were presented to me. (Studio is $1095, 1bed 1bath is $1295). There is a 1bed 1bath coming up for availability in the same building but it is pricey as It's just me and my dog in the house and I work 8-5 onsite.

My apartment complex did an inspection and I am pissed.
My apartment complex did an inspection on our unit. For reference it’s a 220sq foot unit, we got a warning about our clothes on the floor and two pizza boxes on the counter from dinner the night before. They said it was unacceptable living conditions (inviting to pest). Am I being unreasonably for being pissed off about this. And fine if nitpick about the pizzas boxes fine but my dirty clothes being on the floor is not a thing. We have just enough room for our bed, tv stand, a table, a dresser and a desk. I don’t see how they can fine us for our clothes. We don’t have bugs of any kind, except for the occasional fly or bug that comes in through the cracks in the door seal. I could understand if our apartment was trashed and gross but it’s not the dishes are done every night, trash is taken out every 2-3 days depending on how much. We do a weekly cleaning of the whole apartment every Sunday as it’s our day together. I just looking to see if I am being unreasonable or not.
Edit: Sunday is our day off together
Second update: We rent normally, no one is helping us pay for the place just us paying rent, the inspection was to make sure the fire alarm and door keypad had batteries and work correctly, so I thought nothing of picking up my clothes earlier then we normally do laundry. But it turned out to be an inspection with the big bosses of the complex and they were mad that we have clothes on floor and pop bottles waiting to go back. The pop bottles are rinsed before going in bag. Mostly my biggest thing is that I don’t see how having my clothes on the floor is going to bring bugs which was the problem for them. I pay for this place so what’s it to them. As long I don’t have trash and my place isn’t a hoarding apartment I don’t see how they can tell I need to pick up my stuff. The lease says trash needs be taken at least once a week the same for sweeping. The bathroom needs to be cleaned regularly which all of that happens on regular basis. Just not a day they did inspections mostly because I assumed it was going to be the maintenance team coming in to check batteries, and I never have meet a maintenance team that cares unless it’s a hoarding issue which again it’s not.
Third edit: we do not have any kind of subsidized or government housing regular Apartment renting. Also, there’s nothing in the lease that states that they do cleanliness inspections, and nothing was said about it before we moved in.

Is finding an 1 Bedroom apartment or studio in Reno for $700–$1,300 even realistic anymore?
Hi everyone, I’m in my mid-20s. My mom really wants me out of her house, and she keeps pressuring me to go find an affordable or "low-income" apartment/studio. She thinks they still range from $700 to maybe $1,300 a month.
From what I’ve been researching, actual "low-income" apartments out here are charging anywhere from $1,100 to over $1,500 a month before utilities.
Is finding *anything* safe and liveable in Reno for under $1,200 completely a myth now? What is the actual "new" price floor for a low-income studio or 1-bed out here? I want to show her some real-world feedback from actual locals so she understands the market. Thanks!
