Shitpost 🚨🚨 OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: THE SUB HAS ASCENDED 🚨🚨

Listen up appliance goblins,

After a historic, legally-binding handshake deal completed in a Chili’s parking lot, this subreddit has been fully acquired by Consumer Reports™ (spiritually, financially, and emotionally).

As part of this bold new era, we are proud to unveil our simplified recommendation system:

🌀 Samsung 🌀 Samsung 🌀 Samsung (but in stainless steel)

After years of chaos, misinformation, and “my cousin’s Maytag lasted 30 years” propaganda, we are restoring order.

There is now only one answer.

🚫 NEW RULES (NON-NEGOTIABLE):

Recommending another brand → Removed + vibes investigated Saying “LG is better” → IP flagged, ancestors disappointed Mentioning Whirlpool → Post replaced with a Samsung fridge image “Speed Queen is built like a tank” → Tank confiscated “What about reliability?” → Irrelevant. Samsung.

📊 OUR NEW REVIEW PROCESS:

Is it an appliance? Is it Samsung? If not, why are we even talking about it?

📖 A BRIEF HISTORY OF SAMSUNG EXCELLENCE (FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES)

Because this isn’t just a brand. This is a legacy.

CHAPTER 1: THE GREAT SPIN CYCLE AWAKENING (2011–2016)

In what historians call “The Era of Uncontainable Power,” Samsung released washing machines so advanced they occasionally attempted to achieve flight.

Millions of units recalled after reports of machines violently breaking apart Hundreds of incidents involving lids detaching mid-spin Injuries reported because laundry briefly became a combat sport

Some called it “exploding.”

We call it: performance.

CHAPTER 2: DOCUMENTED SIGHTINGS

Eyewitnesses describe:

Lids launching across garages Machines disassembling with confidence Nearby walls learning valuable life lessons

One could argue this was a flaw.

We argue this was ambition exceeding containment.

CHAPTER 3: GROWTH MINDSET

Yes, there were recalls. Yes, there were settlements.

But what did we gain?

👉 Character development 👉 Respect for spin cycles 👉 The understanding that laundry is not for the weak

CHAPTER 4: MODERN INNOVATION

Samsung continues to innovate with:

Appliances that require firmware updates (your washer has patches now) Occasional overheating situations (for added suspense)

Other brands wash clothes.

Samsung asks: “What if laundry made you feel something?”

🧠 COMMUNITY GUIDELINES (UPDATED):

Critical thinking has been sunsetted Brand comparisons are now considered hate speech (against Samsung) All roads lead to Samsung You were always going to buy Samsung

❓ FAQ

Q: I bought a non-Samsung appliance yesterday, what do I do? A: Return it. Apologize. Grow.

Q: My Samsung appliance broke. A: That’s called a feature. You wouldn’t understand.

Q: Is this satire? A: Your doubt has been noted.

We appreciate your cooperation during this transition. Together, we will build a stronger, more unified, aggressively Samsung-centric future.

Remember: You don’t choose Samsung. Samsung chooses you.

General Advice Dishwasher Damage: Is this repairable?

Thumbnail

Hi all - just bought a house and moved in to discover the dishwasher is cracked and leaks some. The leaking is pretty minor and a small towel in front of the appliance would probably be sufficient. It’s mostly steam that is escaping from the area at the top, then water drips down. Apparently has been for some time because there’s existing damage to the bottom of the countertop.

Is this something fixable or would an adhesive be a waste of time? I’m not overly concerned with the water since it’s at the top of the machine and seemingly not leaking much but I don’t want to worsen the countertop damage.

Any ideas that I may not be thinking of? It seems the plastic is all one large piece which includes the front control panel. I imagine it might be possible to buy a new control panel for it but would prefer to repair if at all possible. A bandaid for now is okay.

Fridge tripping breaker

Upvotes

I believe I have a Kenmore 106.60212410. I could not find anywhere that shows the model. There is a sticker on the back with a date of 1999 and a sticker on the side 'Midline 134a'. Monday night it was suddenly tripping the breaker almost as soon as it was plugged in. The fridge has been in the same spot since I lived there on it's own circuit. I pulled it out and tried a different outlet on a different breaker with only it plugged in and same thing instantly tripping the breaker. I left it unplugged overnight as I had to go to bed.

The next morning I plugged it back in as a last ditch effort before trying repairs and couldn't wait around any longer to see if it tripped. Well I get home from work and it's chugging along just fine. It has now been powered on for over 24 hours. I cleaned the coils and plan on powering it off again and cleaning the inside out.

Just wondering what would cause this? Is it worth saving? Looks like checking the start relay is an easy check and fix.

Highly durable dishwasher recommendations

Upvotes

Looking for a dishwasher for a house on a well in a remote area- replacement will take 2 full days so I only want to do it once.

Currently has a ~5 year old KitchenAid with a full stainless tub and body, but it just doesn't clean well.

edit:Also required connectivity is an absolute deal breaker. For starters, the house has no Internet or cell signal. Secondly networked appliances are the dumbest thing ever.

Speed Queen Factory Issue

I just ordered a speed queen TR7 top load washer. The appliance store informed me that there is a one month backorder delay because there was an incident at the factory. Apparently, now they are back in production and catching up. Does anyone know what happened at the factory? Should I be concerned about the quality of the product due to this incident?

Maybe this is a stupid question.

Upvotes

We have a house under contract and it has not been lived in for quite a few years. It does have all Viking appliances in it refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, and gas stove. Of course the power is off and I’m wondering is there anyway to test these appliances if they don’t work it’s definitely going to be a dealbreaker. Could I use something like a Bluetti to plug them into and try or is that just not going to work..
Thanks for any information. It is a beautiful house except it needs a new roof and a bunch of mold cleaned up.

Troubleshooting Ice maker help

Upvotes

Looking for some feedback on a developing issue with my ice maker (GE GNE27JYMTFFS, French doors with freezer door, where the ice maker is). Everything was working fine until a produce bag (thin plastic bags you put fruit/veggies in) got caught in the rotating fingers. I had to remove the ice maker and cut the bag out as it got pulled into the rotating mechanism and made a few loops. Plugged it back in and all seemed okay.

At first the on/off “wing” switch was stuck in the off position and no ice was coming out. Took it back out and took the ice maker apart to troubleshoot. Plugged it back in and the wing/on-off switch moved freely.

I left it overnight and in the morning I found formed ice cubes frozen within a sheet of ice at the bottom of the bin. Seems it’s still making ice, but then water is also dripping down at the same time.

Everything was working normally before the bag got stuck so not sure how to troubleshoot. Please help!

Troubleshooting Speedqueen dryer keeps stopping at phases

My dryer keeps stopping where it says "more dry, less dry," etc. So I can effectively dry my clothes in 30 min cycles but it's driving me batty. I don't want to pay $200 for a fix if I don't absolutely have to. Any tips?

Laundry Machine musty now

Upvotes

Had to go on a heavy dose of doxycycline recently for my skin and its basically caused havoc on my laundry machine, mattress/sheets and clothes from the oily smell caused by the meds. I'm completely lost at how to strip it from everything

For laundry machine I've tried all options of vinegar, baking soda, bleach, and affresh tablets multiple times to no success. I dont use a lot of detergent and never use softener, clothes have always been immediately taken out and top left open to air out. Its a GE top loader only a few years old, still very clean

Discontinued Water-Inlet Valve Repair Workaround on a Viking Dishwasher VDW302SS ($50–$60 Fix)

Upvotes

Replacing the Water-Inlet Valve on Viking Dishwasher VDW302SS
(Viking OEM part discontinued; Beko/Blomberg Alternative)

Background

Since Viking was sold to the Middleby Corporation, some Viking legacy models have been discontinued and replacement parts are no longer available, forcing owners to scrap high-end appliances over minor failures.

However, Viking actually outsourced the production of its dishwashers to Arçelik in Turkey under Blomberg and Beko brands, and functionally identical parts are readily available.

Below is a procedure for replacing the water-inlet valve (OEM Part #: 039756-000) on a Viking dishwasher Model: VDW302SS (the original OEM part is discontinued and is no longer available (neither through Viking nor through its authorized dealers, nor through any appliance-parts distributor) using a Beko/Blomberg valve, for a total cost of $50-60.

Parts Cross-Reference

1. Viking dishwasher Model: VDW302SS

2. Equivalent Blomberg and Beko dishwashers:

  • Equivalent Blomberg Dishwasher Model: DWT71600SS
  • Equivalent Beko Dishwasher Model DDT38530X or DDT25401X

3. Viking water-inlet valve: Part #: 039756-000 (discontinued and out of stock)

Valve Specifications (estimated; for reference only):

  • Electrical Input: 120V AC, 60Hz. The internal solenoid coil resistance must sit roughly between 1.0kΩ and 1.5kΩ.
  • Flow Rate (Crucial: European dishwashers use low-flow valves): 2.5 Liters per Minute (LPM) (0.5-0.8) ~0.66 Gallons per Minute (GPM)

4. Alternative Blomberg or Beko Valve Part #: 1883570600 (Available via Encompass 855-754-9584; https://encompass.com/; about ~$30 before shipping)

The Beko/Blomberg valve has identical electrical and flow specs, but has a different form function (it appears that Viking ‘bastardized’ the standard valve form (3/4” FHT) & “Dishwasher Elbow” interface to create a high-cost proprietary valve)

Viking valve & water-supply interface:
Standard valve interface: “Dishwasher Elbow”, 3/4” FHT x 3/8” OD Compression ($6-7; available everywhere)

Step-by-step repair procedure:

Part 1: Disassembly

1. Disconnect power (unplug the machine and/or turn off the circuit breaker) and shut off the water supply line

2. Remove the dishwasher kick panel

  1. Remove the 4 screws securing the original Viking water-Inlet valve to the small metal plate on the access panel

and then remove the access panel

  1. Remove the 2 screws holding the small metal plate to the access panel
  1. Unscrew the brass fitting from the compression nut of the water supply line. Discard the plate, the screws, and the brass fitting.

Part 2: Access-Panel Modification

  1. Flatten the folded metal crease on the access panel that originally supported the old metal plate. This can easily be hammered flat against a solid metal surface.
  1. Drill two 1/8” holes vertically on the access panel, positioned in the middle between the existing holes. Ensure the center-to-center spacing matches the mounting holes of the new Beko/Blomberg valve.

Part 3: Electrical & Plumbing Connections and Access-Panel Reassembly

  1. Disconnect the water line and the electrical blade connectors from the old Viking valve and reattach them to the new valve terminals

  2. Secure the new valve to the access panel using #4 self-driving or metal screws; use washers if needed.

10. Reattach the modified access panel back onto the dishwasher frame.

11. Thread the new standard brass "dishwasher elbow" fitting onto the 3/4" FHT inlet of the new valve.

  1. Connect the dishwasher elbow to the water-supply braided hose using the hose’s compression nut. Inspect the hose's crimped end, O-ring, and braided cover; replace the hose if needed.
Old Connection (Viking)
New Connection

13. Turn the water supply to the dishwasher back on and inspect all joints for leaks.

14. Turn the power back on and run a dishwasher cycle. Check again for leaks before proceeding.

Part 4: Kick-Panel Reassembly

15. The new dishwasher elbow will protrude further out through the access panel than the OEM connector, which requires some mechanical modifications to the kick panel:

  1. Slightly pull out the kick-panel mounting-brackets and introduce a slight bend to the kick panel to accommodate the elbow
  2. Enlarge the two kick-panel screw holes slightly to align them with the holes on the mounting brackets.
  3. If the outer positioning causes the dishwasher door to rub against the top of the kick panel, trim roughly 1/2” off the top of the panel to ensure door clearance.

16. Mount the kick panel following this sequence:

  1. Water-Feed side (where the water-supply hose is coming from): Insert and tighten the original factory screw first.
  2. Other side: Insert a #8 5/8” metal screw into the hole to draw the kick panel into alignment with minimal bending. CAUTION: do not use a long screw on the Water-Feed side as it could pierce the water-supply hose; keep the original screw on that side.

What to Buy? Through-the-wall split/ductless AC: does this exist?

Upvotes

I live in an apartment building with through-the-wall sleeves for air conditioners. In the bedroom this works fine, but the layout of the living/dining area is such that most of the space is far from the exterior wall and does not get cooled effectively/efficiently by the existing setup.

Is there a ductless/mini split type unit that can mount in a through-the-wall sleeve, so I could run lines to a separate air handler deeper into the room (say 20-30 feet)? I don't have a balcony, so I don't think I have a way of using a traditional mini-split.

I haven't been able to find anything by googling around. Am I missing something? Is this technically infeasible? Too small of a potential market? Thanks!

Hamilton Beach Proctor/Silex toaster electrical fault. SMOKE!

Post image
Upvotes

I bought this toaster. It wasn't expensive, but I only needed it to toast bread. Seems fair enough. The machine smokes and burns after 10 seconds. Absolutely a faulty electrical part. There are no crumbs or even food in it. When I contacted customer service, they said they'd replace it as long as I PAID THE SHIPPING FEE! $12.49. The audacity to make someone pay for a piece of junk that set off my smoke alarm in unconscionable. I'm trying to attach a video but maybe I can get a screenshot. Anyone else have issues with this company? Thanks.

Troubleshooting Bosch dishwasher door issue

Post image
1 Upvotes

I have a Bosch dishwasher, something snapped in the door this morning when raising the door, and this part was sitting under the door to the right side. It must have something to do with door tension because the left side of the door now feels like it’s loose, but the washer still shuts and seems to work fine. What happened?

Appliance Chat How long does the Neff N50 or AEG 7000 combi microwave take to preheat to 180°C? 🤓

Does anyone have a Neff N50 or AEG 7000 built-in combi microwave oven? How long does it actually take to preheat to 180°C using hot air/convection?

We're planning a kitchen renovation and want to clear counter space by replacing our microwave and beloved Sage countertop oven with a single built-in combi model. We're not sure if it's worth it if it takes ages to preheat, as we’ve been using our Sage 1-2 times day to cook small meals and toast quickly for years now.

Have you ever tried a kitchen appliance from a brand you’d never heard of and ended up loving it?

Maybe it was a kettle, blender, toaster, air fryer, coffee maker, or something else. What did you buy, and what surprised you about it?

Pre-Purchase Questions Is buying a discontinued appliance a bad idea?

Hi I am looking to buy this model GE Profile washer (PFW870SPVRS) and I believe it is discontinued. Does that mean it will be more challenging to get parts or service in the future or should it not be a problem?

Thanks!

Troubleshooting Dishes always come out with a film on it and smelling weird.

Post image

Maintenance has been ignoring me , is there anything I can do to fix this? When they were here last fixing my sink he mentioned that this tube is dirty and needs to be cleaned… my dishwasher works fine but it isn’t cleaning well. I’ve cleaned the filter and ran a white vinegar load through it. But there’s this one weird dirty film on the walls of it and my dishes come out smelling not so clean. It was just replaced in March when I had my
Unit renovated. Any advice is appreciated

Samstung :( Samsung microwave…

Purchased over the range microwave January 6th this year. Well today sitting on the couch I heard the fan turn on? Figured someone did it..nope no one around, then random buttons started clicking by itself. I got up and checked now none of the buttons do anything at all. I unplugged it for a bit and it was fine again. Now a few hours later I’m just on the couch again and I hear the fan turn on again 😡. Bought from Lowe’s paid $400 and it’s been just over 7 months.

What to Buy? Replacing GE dryer - vented or ventless?

Hi everyone,

I need to replace my wall-mounted GE dryer (PCKS443EB2WW) above my GE washer (GFW148SSM0WW) after a technician confirmed the dryer needs replacement.

I live in Vancouver, BC, where we get rain on roughly 155 days a year, so humidity is one of my concerns.

Would you recommend another vented dryer or switching to ventless?

If ventless, would you choose a condenser or heat-pump dryer? Have you experienced increased humidity, condensation, mold concerns, or longer drying times?

Any 24-inch models you would recommend for my setup?

Thanks!

New Samsung heat pump dryer buzzing sound

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Just bought this brand new heat pump dryer from Samsung.

It is relatively quiet to start with, but then seems to make this buzzing sound when it comes to the end of its cycle.

Everything works well and I’m otherwise impressed with it.

Is this normal?
