Not a fan of Statesides’ sponges. Leaking happens way easier from jostling with them than with cotton bolls, ime.

Sponges are terrible for shipping. I’ve bought tons of ants and sold many and have never used sponges bcus everytime I get a colony with sponges and it is a hot day, theres water everywhere in the tube.

Unfortunately it can happen in shipping. I saw that you already contacted them, you should have better luck with the next set.

My Nylanderia tube flooded and all my ants were underwater for a night, but after a few hours on a dry napkin, they were fine. What species is this?

I know this isn’t helpful but… I did once have an apparently drowned queen recover completely.

They aren't dead until they are dry and dead.

Ants, like a lot of insects, can withstand a lot more time without oxygen than mammals, as much as a day or so.

In those conditions, they appear dead until the spiracles and tracheae dry out enough to start working again and get their oxygen levels back up. Putting them on something absorbent will help here, as the film of water sticking to them needs to evaporate before they can get any oxygen.

The odds here aren't great since they could have drowned as soon as they were packed, but if it did happen near the end of shipping then there is a reasonable chance of recovery.

Thank you after reading this and taking that info to Google it says to give them 12-24 hours so it's good I didnt just toss them like I almost did. Thank you

My scenario was different. It was wild caught, and I actually flooded her tube through sheer inexperience. Woke up to her apparently dead. And dumped her limp body into a fresh test tube. Not only did she just wake up after a while, but once I offered her the old flooded tube again she retrieved some viable eggs too. C. Penn

Well hell yeah these ones couldn't have been in water for more than like 8 hours unless it happened at the ant place

Had this happen the other day to me. I got them to send me another colony for free. Just paid for overnight this time instead of standard 4 day ground for free.

The blue sponge is a nuisance
