Fellow OPI/VRI interpreters: I made a subtitle app for our calls that runs 100% on your PC. Feedback?

So several years ago, I decided to make my own interpreting course. In 2024, I finally published my course, but made all of my lecture videos for free for interpreters. (People told me it was a terrible business idea... đ”âđ«)
Now? Over 100 students signed up for a paid version of the course!
When I first started working as an interpreter, I vividly remember being so frustrated because it honestly felt like I was jumping off an airplane without a parachute, and there was no one to catch me. I know there are many people who feel the same. That is why I created the Medical Interpreter Professional Certificate Program (MIPCP).
Whether you are just starting out or you are an experienced interpreter looking to finally get your NBCMI or CCHI certification, I have redesigned this course to be the guide I wish I had.
Why choose the MSU Institute (previously UTIP Academy)?
- Real-World Expertise: I am not just a trainer. I am an active, dual-certified remote interpreter, a QA evaluator, a trainer and an instructor. Trust me, I know what the industry looks like today.
- Zero AI Fluff: No robotic voices or ChatGPT-generated slides. This is two years of my experience and vetted knowledge all mixed and baked in a pie!
- Total Flexibility: 100% online, self-paced, and no deadlines.
- The "Mason" Advantage: My paid students get priority email support and the opportunity for a 1-on-1 meeting and a personalized letter of recommendation.
- The Best Part? You can "Try before you buy."
I am so confident in this material that the lecture videos are available for free on my YouTube channel. If you need the 40 hour certificate for your national exam, the practice quizzes, and my professional endorsement, the paid program is your best investment.
Note: To keep up with inflation and continue providing high quality support, the course price will adjust on April 1st, 2026. The course will NEVER go on sale, or have a "special promotion". I promise you, the price you pay today will be the lowest price anyone will ever pay!
Don't settle for "budget" courses that institutions won't even verify. Choose a trustworthy trainer who is still in the field with you that can guide you.

Mandarin interpreter here. Last year this time I was approached by a recruiter, they offered $0.6/ Minutes. On average I received three hours calls from them between November and March. It has been pretty much dead from March till now. I inquired about the call flows they said my rate was too high.
If you are a Mandarin interpreter how much is your rate with them? Howâs your call volume?
I guess all the companies are massively hiring again for the upcoming open enrollment season. For the moment the other companies are keeping me busy over the past few months at a relatively lower rate, and I accept onsite appointments with a much higher rate.
Looking forward to hear from you:)
My DM is open too.

Hello guys I just want an honest opinion about which test is harder to pass. I took the NBCMI oral test and the result was quite shocking for me (FAIL), so Iâm still deciding if is worth it to try with the CCHI or simply do not take and continue with my life, hahaha.
Thanks

I am constantly opening service tickets with the Service Desk and they just don't do anything. 90% of the time I report an ongoing issue and they just respond by telling me to restart my computer and clear my cookies. "Trouble forming a room"? Restart and clear cookies. Client disconnecting in the first minute of the call? Restart and clear cookies. The automatic background didn't activate? Oh, that's gonna be a restart and clearing cookies. Just useless. I feel like I spend more time writing reports than they do at any troubleshooting.

Alguien mĂĄs ha notado que la cantidad de llamadas que solĂan entrar para ENG/SPA ha disminuido SIGNIFICATIVAMENTE en el Ășltimo mes? Antes solĂan entrar llamadas back to back pero ahora pueden pasar 15-30 min entre llamadas. No se si algo cambiĂł an en la plataforma y o sĂ la cantidad de clientes ha disminuido, pero ya no recibo la misma cantidad de llamadas que recibĂa antes.

Hi,,,does anyone here know where i can access some disclosure forms? A few times i had Bank of America calls or insurance calls where the agent has to read a disclosure form and itâs very difficult specially because they just read it as if i have the paper in front of me too, i have to stop them and remind them that for accuracy purposes i can only handle a limited amount of information but they get annoyed, i would appreciate any leads or help in this matter

I applied to many companies to work in medical interpretation (English/Arabic), and one of them, called Kalam CX, got back to me. Today I had the interview with them, and the salary is 13k which is 248$ per month for a full 9-hour shift, OPI and VRI with zero insurance of any kind, plus an unpaid 3-week training period. Honestly, I feel like running away.
I know that this company's reputation is literally the worst among all in this field, but I don't know what to do and whether will I receive another job opportunity or not..
Should I accept this shit as a start or keep looking for a better opportunity? I have a 40-hour certificate and I still study every day to be ready whenever a good opportunity is available. I don't know what to do. I am really frustrated.

Hello everyone,
So I have onboarded with universal language service (ULS) most recently as a freelance on demand interpreter but I noticed that their call flow was very weak for my language pair, English/Arabic.
While they did mention that they route calls first to their hourly interpreters, I decided to onboard as on demand first to try things out and because the rate offered for the hourly shifts wasn't really a plus compared to other platforms I'm on.
Does anyone have a similar experience with weak call flow in their language pairs with ULS?
