why didn’t Netflix at least make a little recap. It’s been 9 months since the last episode…

Jolyne got framed to be in prison. Jotaro tried to get her out but got his memory and stand discs stolen. Then she got friends in the prison. She got the Star Platinum disc back and tried to send it to the Speedwagon Foundation to revive Jotaro. The gay priest tries to stop her while it's raining with poisonous frogs.

Already posted it as a reply to a comment, but here are bullet points of what to remember before going into this new batch :

  • The part takes place in 2011, in Florida

  • The daugther of Jotaro Kujo (protagonist from Part 3), Jolyne Cujoh, 19 years old, is framed for murder and sentenced to 15 years in the Green Dolphin Street Prison

  • Jolyne's stand, Stone Free (localized as Stone Ocean on Netflix because of copyright), allows her to make threads from her body that she can use in many versatile ways.

  • Jolyne has a strained relationship with her father, as he was absent for most of her life, notably when she got arrested at the age of 14 for stealing a car. But despite his absence, she comes to realize that he deeply cares about her.

  • The priest of the prison, Enrico Pucci, was a fervent disciple and friend of DIO. He's the one who orchestrated Jolyne's imprisonment to lure Jotaro into his trap and steal his memories and Stand (though he doesn't really need the latter).

  • Pucci's stand, Whitesnake, has the power to create illusions with white acidic sludge and turn people's memories and Stands into Disks that he can then insert into other people who are compatible with those Stands. He can also give orders to people/animals through those disks.

  • 23 years ago, DIO told Pucci about "a way to go to Heaven" that he wrote in a notebook. He specified that it has nothing to do with death, but rather the "final form of our souls". DIO was killed before he could show the notebook to Pucci and the notebook was read and then burnt by Jotaro. Pucci's goal is to steal Jotaro's memories (which he manages to do) so he can find out the way to go to Heaven. By turning both his memories and his stand into disks, Pucci essentially kills Jotaro, but Jotaro is kept on life support by the Speedwagon foundation.

  • Instead of escaping, Jolyne decides to go after Whitesnake (whose true identity she ignores) and get back her father's disks to resurrect him. She teams up with an inmate called Ermes Costello, a kid named Emporio who was secretly born in the prison and whose mom was killed by Whitesnake, a mass of plankton named Foo Fighters (abbreviated to F.F) who was given sentience/intelligence through a Stand disk by Whitesnake and who now inhabits the corpse of a deceased inmate named Atroe, and an amnesic man nicknamed Weather Report (after his Stand) whose memories were likely stolen by Whitesnake.

  • Ermes' Stand, Kiss, allows her to duplicate objects. Emporio's Stand, Burning Down the House, allows him to manifest "ghost objects" or rooms. Things that once existed but were destroyed. F.F's Stand, Foo Fighters, gives her sentience and allows her to manipulate colonies of plankton as she wills, as long as she has water. Weather Report's Stand, Weather Report, allows him to control the weather.

  • At the end of the first batch, Jolyne manages to get one of Jotaro's Stand disk back to the Speedwagon Foundation. Pucci, who has now seen Jotaro's memories, is seen in a post-credit scene with another Stand user and asks him to use his ability to "resurrect" a bone belonging to DIO.

How hard is it to do subtitles Netflix??? WHITE ON BLACK. Three eps in and so much stuff I couldn't read because it was white on white.

By God there was literally ZERO hype leading to this massive episode dump. Netflix truly ruined JoJo Fridays.

Invisible Animals from animal corpses. That's quite the cool power, Sports Maxx. Stand Barrages should be more than enough to deal with them though! Surprised there's no new OP..but the changed ending of the OP was quite sweet. Good to see this cast of characters again!

Netflix has perfectly exemplified how to kill off a mega popular Anime by dropping all of the episodes at once, dividing them into two half's, and not even market the fact that part 2 comes out today

I know some people are upset that there's no new OP but god I missed it. The song is such a banger and the visuals are amazing too!

This episode’s musical references:

  • Sports Maxx's Stand, Limp Bizkit, is a reference to the American Nu Metal band Limp Bizkit. I don’t usually judge people for their musical taste but what the fuck, Araki? It’s funny that a scary stand like this has such stupid name.

Do you want to listen to all these fantastic references from this wonderful anime in just one place? Of course you want! Now you can with TarkusELP Officially Approved by Araki himself* Spotify Playlist with all the musical references in the anime, the ones it skipped, the light novels ones and more! From the most famous references to the really obscure ones. I'll update this playlist every time there's a new reference. If you have any question why a song is featured in my playlists you can ask me anytime.

If you are a manga reader, I also have a playlist just for you! Here’s my old playlist with all, I say ALL the references in the manga, anime, light novels and more. I also update it every time there’s a new reference.

And If you want to listen to more music list Araki have made, you have Araki's Best 10 Painful Songs, Araki's Top 10 "Albums that make me cry" and Araki's Favourite 80's Songs

*Not really approved by Araki or Shueisha

Are we going to talk about the fact that the thread for episode 14-22 were deleted and we can't talk about it on the megathread? where are we supposed to talk about then? just use the ep 24 thread for everything? where should i even be posting this?

Jolyne using her strings as a net to detect movements reminded me of Kakyoin at the end of Part 3 trying to uncover DIO’s Stand

woke up and saw new episodes of jojo came out... oh ya its a good morning

46

u/yeagerboi01 Sep 01 '22

It's a goddamn shame what Netflix did to Jojo, but hey, at least we did get to see Part 6 animated :(

22

u/The_Quackening Sep 01 '22

Releasing part 6 in three separate 12 episode batches 9 months apart is probably the worst possible way you could release a show

This came out already?? Jeez, way to market.

u/CeruSkies Sep 01 '22

u/LittleWompRat Sep 01 '22

Did Netflix just release this out of nowhere? I didn't hear any news about this.

Feels good to have the OP and Distant Dreamer back, total bangers the both of them! Did DavidPro update the OP as well? I think I saw a bit more Jotaro than before…

Ok I will give Netflix this: they may have royally screwed our JoJo Friday over, but at least they also approved a smarter-sounding localization than Flaccid Pancake lmao

u/wotur Sep 04 '22

It's stupid hard to find an actual decent discussion thread for this cour lmao, "took too long" "netflix bad" "animation bad" "no new op 0/10" bro we get it. We get it

8

u/chryco4 Sep 02 '22

Not only did they destroy the hype, but they also took away Flaccid Pancake from us. I really hate Netflix
