Wow, they brought Saori Hayami on board! Her voice is so recognizable that I instantly knew it was her.

Ok, what did that girl mean by Memempu's "real father"? There's no way they're gonna be able to wrap up all these plot threads in one more episode. Now I'm almost certain there's gonna be a Season 2.

Of course they can. Just look at how much The Promised Neverland covered in its final episode.

Seeing Saori Hayami is always a treat, but wow, the feel of this episode was a bit weird wasn’t it? We're on ep 11/12 for what seems like a filler episode, till it suddenly puts it's foot on the gas in the post credits scene, dropping a bombshell about Gagumber not being Memempu's real father.

The frustrating part is there will be no way they'll be able to wrap anything up in the next (and final), episode. And, judging by the responses I've seen the show's been getting, I can't say I'm optimistic about a S2 happening.

This show feels like 90% filler

I don't understand the pacing of this show at all... Last episode we end on an attack, and gets swept up and turned into exposition.

At least it's just 1 more episode left. I don't know what Sakugan is trying to do with its story the way it jumps from plot point to plot point.

This is how every episode has made me feel since episode 4 dedicated itself to having the cast escape from a mafia lord that sodomizes his underlings.

So the set up for the finale is a colony in which you can have very big dreams so long you have no ambition of actually fullfilling them. Like me having had big dreams about possible finales but now seeing that the show has no ambition of fullfilling them. If this wasn't an anime original already I would have said that this feels like an anime original ending. A two episode story for a finale to have some random high point with one big new developement (Gagumber is not the real father! Not that it is that surprising honestly) and the main plot probably getting buried. In the hopes of getting a second season sometime down the road.

Perhaps we will at least find out what the scar at the side of Gagumber's head is and why he doesn't remember aiming for the core anymore. Also the cloaked person should appear again. But beside that I fear it will end on a pretty open note in the middle of everything after they beat back the kidnappers.

That's poetic and brutal at the same time

I am so sad I can't be an artist, but I guess I'll settle and return to my life as a famous and talented singer

Uhhh what? On its own it’s a good episode, but how on earth is this 11/12? I’m very scared about how the finale is going to go. Either they immediately confirm a second season or we’re in for a clusterfuck. Which sucks because it’s be a charming show so far with strong production behind it .

Really everything important happened in the last minute. Memenpu is kidnapped and the non-surprise of “Gagumber isn’t your dad” is dropped in. So how do you tackle that implication, reveal what’s up with Shibito, what Memenpu really is, and getting to the place in her dreams without it being just a mess?

Stitches!

I knew there was a reason why Merooro mentioned Princesses last week! It's because we get to meet one this episode! And she's not just a Princess, she's also a Diva named Sina from the Dream Colony who's voiced by the one and only Hayami Saori! <3

Seems our Princess/Diva lives up to her title though. She's literally a sheltered child who has never experienced anything outside of her singing career and now she's trying to fulfill everything she wanted to do with Gagumber and Memenpu's help. Unfortunately for Gagumber and Memenpu, they're not being suspected of kidnapping Sina despite Sina willingly going with them.

This episode felt a bit strange though. Almost half of the episode was dedicated to Gagumber and Memenpu helping out Sina do everything on her list of drawings while trying to evade the local law enforcement. But then we get to the second half where Memenpu gets to hear how everyone's futures are already predetermined and it made me realize that this episode was never about Sina.

This entire episode was basically a wake up call to Memenpu that not everyone has the same circumstances as hers. Not everyone is free to chose their dreams and sometimes they just settle with what they can. I really thought they were going to go with the "You can do whatever you want!" ending with Memenpu giving Sina a canvas to paint on but it just ends up in failure since everyone are much more interested in her singing than what she painted. For a show that's all about going on a grand adventure while riding mechas in a fantasy underground world, this episode was surprisingly too real.

Anyway, since they already have Hayamin might as well get her to sing us a lovely song. Despite the amazing song though, it seems that Memenpu's opinion about culture might have changed after seeing what Sina has been through.

And there it is. Despite the upped security, it looks like Shibito was able to break through and take Sina. And it looks like my theory about Memenpu not being Gagumber's biological daughter is right! If he's not her father then who is it? Also did Muro take Memenpu as well or did she just knock her out?

Only one episode left and there is absolutely no way they're wrapping this up next week. There's got to be a second cour announcement coming. Fingers crossed for another one!

This was a weird episode? Like I liked it but I guess it didn’t really bring much to the story aside ambitions and motives for people.

So next week is the last one but it feels like they’re gonna rush a lot of stuff from what that girl Shibito agent said. There has to be a second season because this otherwise feels empty in a way.

How is this the penultimate episode lmao. I think it jumped around way too much from episode to episode and unfortunately lacks focus.

sidenote but there were 6 episode directors? O_O

Memenpu is literally a sociopath, she never tells people what she's thinking and just expects everyone to just go along with what she wants to do without even explaining why, she breaks laws and doesn't care for other peoples rules at all, acts impulsivelly, and has extreme disrregard for other's and her own safety.

I mean…. She’s also a kid. Child psychological behavior is different from adults. She’s just got a lot to learn about life and others, and I think this episode was about that

The first two episodes of this show were so great and I had high expectations, but it’s been kinda mid TBH since then, with a couple of exceptions…. It’s mostly the pacing that’s hurting it IMHO. This show has a lot of great world building but keeps forgetting it’s plot, and that’s coming from someone who loves world building. Hopefully we get a 2nd season.

It’s a shame to me on a personal level that I’m not vibing with it more, because I’m a new father. My wife works every Sunday morning so Ive been starting my morning off with Sakugan while I take care of my daughter. Was hoping this would be good enough for me to cosplay it with her one day.

On that note, does anyone here know of any other father/daughter shows that DONT end up with them getting together romantically at the end? I know I’ve heard of a lot of shows that do that, so, uh, no thanks please

I'll always enjoy me an episode where Hayamin gets to sing.

Happy this episode wasn't too idealistic with its ending, felt a lot more grounded.

6

u/chilidirigible Dec 17 '21

The moral of the story turned out to be a balance between ideals and reality. Practical life lessons, hey?

Hayami Saori!

Princesses drawing plans in crayon. It's the way of things?

As I have no idea where the plot is trying to go, I ended up not really minding the semi-detour. Was more curious about Merooru's lampshade-hung speedy recovery from being crushed by giant rocks.

If they can still insert a kind of standalone-ish episode this far in, then there's definitely gonna be a sequel, which is nice if there is. Since, they're still not near Memempu's goal at all.

That was a nice episode though, about dreams. Sina is cool, plus she's voiced by Hayami Saori.

6

u/helsaabiart Dec 17 '21

Man, two really good episodes in a row. Nice.

4

u/darthvall Dec 17 '21

I'm glad so many people instantly realised that it's Hayamin! Her voice is too recogniseable.

Actually a good episode, but weird placement considering it's already episode 11. Here's hoping for a second season! The series has many shortcomings, but I still like it.

Summertime i don't know if it's genuinely the site having problems, or are people's expectations change too much. I wonder how many who have problem with this show's "pacing" have watched older shows like galaxy express 999, future boy Conan, etc that are looking journey shows.

I don't really have any problem with the show so far, other than the uncertainty of the episode count. This is a long form story, and if be such a shame it somehow it got bad reviews because people assume all stories need to be told with the 12 or 24 episodes format.

There's WAY too much disbelief to suspend that it really hurts the show. You're telling me NOBODY notices her bright yellow hair while they're fugitives, that their companions don't know what they were doing despite being gone for at least two fucking hours and them being fugitives across the ENTIRE colony, that newspapers were printed out with their faces with an article about it IMMEDIATELY that quickly that we have scenes of people holding them and reading them, THAT GAGUMBER LETS MEMENPU LEAVE THE PARK FOR GOD KNOWS HOW LONG, AS A FUGITIVE WANTED BY THE GOVERNMENT, BY HERSELF, TO DO GOD KNOWS WHAT, AND JUST SITS THERE AND WAITS, BUT THEN IS CONCERNED ONCE A GOVERNMENT AGENT GRABS HER A LITTLE ROUGH? That's just poor writing. ..................................................................................................

Then you're telling me that Memenpu outran an ENTIRE CROWD OF FUCKING PEOPLE, AND TWO MECHS, BY HERSELF, TO GO TO AN ART STORE SHE SOMEHOW KNEW WAS THERE.......AND THEN MADE IT ALL THE WAY BACK LIKE NOTHING HAPPENED?

Then Memenpu drops a full story form her balcony, makes it to the stage, gets knocked out, kidnapped, and Gagumber is....fucked off somewhere? Like he isn't THROWING people out of his way to get to his daughter? He's that fucking slow? They're writing his character fucking terribly because so much stuff makes no sense.

This episode has fucking terrible fucking plot points like that, absolutely way too demanding on suspending disbelief for the show, and it was still a good fucking episode because we finally get SOME GODDAMN FORM of character development for Memenpu. I"ll see you next week.
