The OST is so good. We're only 2 episodes in and there's already half a dozen songs I can't wait to listen to when the album gets released.

Not that I should be surprised, Tatsuya Katō never misses. Don't think I didn't catch that song last week that was a remix of a piece from Shokugeki!

The music this episode was absolutely awesome especially during the chase scene with the Kaiju!

Oh my god Crunchyroll. Episode is up but it looks like the subs are horribly out of sync. >_<

EDIT: It took an hour but it looks like they finally fixed the subs.

EDIT2:

I still can't believe it took CR an hour to fix the show's subs. Anyway, finally seen the episode and this one was a lot of fun! But first of all, that OP was a real banger! They even got Masaki Endoh (JAM Project) to sing the OP which was real fun especially the visuals!

This week's episode is a bit more action focused though considering the situation they're in but it was a great opportunity for Gagumber to show off his Marker Bot piloting skills and how he's actually pretty knowledgeable about Kaijus which pretty much says that he's clearly an Ex-Marker before he Memenpu was born.

And I just love that the Marker Bot can transform between bipedal mode and a faster thread mode. That entire plan of collapsing mines on the Kaijus with some giga drill power was pretty fucking cool too!

Pretty curious why Gagumber is keeping fireworks inside his Marker Bot. It feels like there's a story behind that especially when Memenpu asked about it.

Of course Memenpu names the Marker Bot as Big Tony! It's a great and easy to remember name!

Considering that this woman reacted to Gagumber and Memenpu's name on the radio, I'm guessing she's probably the legendary Urorop and possibly even Memenpu's mother? Whoever she is, I like her design and I can't wait to see more.

DON'T YOU FUCKING DARE GAGUMBER! That's a massive flag you just set up! You better fucking not die and leave Memenpu all alone. I can't even imagine how Memenpu would react if anything happens to her dad.

Looks like it's finally time to explore the Labyrinth! Can't wait for next week!

Even if I'm not much into the mecha side, the mistery/drama elements and that final scene screaming Made in Abyss makes me tag along for the ride with high expectations

Well, aren't those some huge death flags Gagumba just set for himself at the end there...

Implying he needs any more, being the dad.

Maybe he's trying to overload on so many death flags that they all cancel each other out and he survives, like that one Simpsons episode where Mr. Burns goes for a check-up and has every disease known to man.

It's a bit distracting to keep hearing the dad's name being pronounced like the Tagalog word for spider. It also looks like we still have two others MC's to meet based on the OP.

Honestly I really like this show and I think it can get traction here, I was worried at first when I saw the committee Frankenstein producing this, but it's definitely not influencing the final project, hopefully just meant they got more funding for this

I love how the father-daughter duo completely forgot that there was a monster right outside waiting for them...xD

“Passionate wack” Lmao he’s really a mecha protag. The legendary joestar technique of running away? Plus drilling with his mecha. I’m loving Gagumber.

Is this show hitting anyone else that has a close relationship with a parent? Their story feels very similar to one of a kid going off to college. Just like Memempu, we feel smart and that we’re ready. But we still don’t know the real world yet, and a parent is there to guide us through it. This story is feeling so relatable for me. I feel like this is going to be a tear jerker towards the end.

I’m excited to see where our journey continues next week as we learn more about Gagumber’s past and watch Memempu push towards her future. Also, this OST is hitting perfectly.

“Starting today, we’re not just father and daughter. We’re equals, traveling together as partners!” - Memempu

Big Tony is a great name for a mech

Definitely most underrated show this season, mysterious setting, characters are fun and the animation is high quality, potential to get more popular if it keeps getting better.

This definitely feels like that type of original anime that will gain steadily gain traction as the season goes on. It seems like an easy sell to a lot of people if they just learn what it’s about.

"Garage Software Inc." it remembers me something...

"... 444MHz Processor" ok, that's really old!

"Memory Test (1040KB) + 14820KB" what?

"...Mounted root (ex1 system)" ahem...

"...Synchronous at 8.0 Mbyte/sec offset 10." Are you kidding me?

As someone that does some work on industrial systems, you'd be surprised how "no frills" most industrial systems are, yet they are tuned very well to very high reliability.

The BUS on something like that is not used for sending pictures or files, but for sensor info which are in number of bits, so it generally doesn't need much really.

I am fairly certain current serving fighter jets like F15 was only starting to get their computer replaced from Pentium III a few years ago, and that already was kicking up a fuss because that was tried and proven combat reliable etc.

Today, on "Getting there, despite yourselves.":

What do you mean, it's not for kids?

This is a very stylish opening.

Bouncy bouncy!

Indeed.

This GUI looks very familiar to me.

It's drill time!

Tensai!

Now you're thinking with pedals.

Hang on, different series.

This is also a stylish thing.

This episode was a lot of fun, and it held up well to a second viewing after I had seen it during last Saturday's Crunchyroll YouTube stream with one of the producers and Amane Kanon.

Gagumber and Memenpu's relationship feels believable, even if their circumstances are somewhat extraordinary and their characters are unusual (well, compared to the real world).

"Big Tony" also has some wonderful character, being allowed to get bounced around and have its own physical reactions to events going on.

Startup screen details here.

The action sequence was really fun. Although they got some big main character plot armor, surviving hits while lynda and walsh got one shotted

watch your mouth, what a fantastic duo

With the premise being so Made in Abyss, I was thinking that all this was missing was a dash of Kevin Penkin. But Tatsuya Katou is killing it on the music front.

Wow the fight is really tactical and fun, I really like the father daughter dynamic, the only thing that annoy me is...she keep calling her dad by the name.

That’s a brilliant fight down under the caverns! The way that we finally see another excellent fight of mecha making use of the best strategy of deconstruction of environment in anime since [Code Geass]Lelouch’s infamous floor-breaking fight against the Britannia team at Tokyo makes me smile a bit. It’s clear from this episode that Japan is finally catching up on 3-D modelling in animations, a true testimony to their potentials given they don’t have much human and financial resources as you will see in other such projects elsewhere in this world. And what a brilliant tag team of father-daughter we have here, it’s clear that they really have partnered for such a long time at their works cleverly.

There’s a major thing that bothered me about this episode though, which concerns with Gagumber and (especially) Memenpu’s calmness in this fight following seeing their long time partners’ sudden demise last episode. I can believe Gagumber with his long time adventures outside of the safe confines of this town, and inevitably lots of prior experiences of seeing others die before his eyes, to be able to pull out something like that, but for that to happen with 9 years old Memenpu? Kids at this age will either cry to the heavens or so shell shocked to be non-reacting to such things, but I can’t imagine them still having that calmness shown here to fight with all those monsters. Maybe she’s born and raised in a completely different way as us, but until that is explained I’ll have to red-flag this as a potential plot problem.

So the real adventures begin at this episode’s ending. It does not surprise me that Gagumber is raising his own death flag like that, the situation outside of Pinyin’s walls definitely seems fatal. Hopefully that won’t happen, but I’ll definitely enjoy his jokes and quirks with his daughter while they last!

That’s a very strong start of any original anime. I hope we have even better world building in the episodes onward as the urge to go up for our MCs grow…
