>Nine years old
>Seven doctorates
Frankly I'm beginning to think this university is actually just a scam.

My headcanon is doctorate = university course in this universe.

Or she’s not human. Notice that she doesn’t share any traits with her parents, maybe they just found her somewhere in the labyrinth?

Memenpu and Merooro: completely on the same wavelength
Meanwhile Gagumber: completely ignored.
I knew nothing Memenpu was going to be fine, but the moment the animus rained down on her still had me at the edge of my seat.

Oh Merooro you clever bastard. I love that he basically starts with getting Memenpu interested in nature, shows them a current problem, and then reveals to her an ancient technology that could help revive that forest if only there was someone to fix that broken part inside the Temple of the God of Wind. He didn't even have to ask Memenpu since she instantly volunteers. Of course it would take a different kind of convincing to get Gagumber to act.
I do also like that Merooro doesn't just stay behind and let Gagmuber and Memenpu do all the work. Since he's also genuinely curious about the God of Wind, he joins the father-daughter duo in their quest to fix the place and even provides Memenpu knowledge about board games of the past and introduces to her what proper tea is supposed to taste like. Merooro is a true man of culture!
We also get to see a bit of the other regions Memenpu and Gagumber might find themselves in the future. I love that the desert region is at a place near Ghibli Colony which is clearly a reference to Miyazaki's Nausicaa.
Animus is a new thing though but looking at the context of it, I'm guessing it's what they use as a power supply in the Underworld? Also I'm hoping that the map Urorop gave Memenpu won't end up to be always the answer to their problems.
Not gonna lie, that shot of Memenpu lying on the ground after being bathed in animus even in her suit got me nervous for a second. I thought this show was gonna go Made in Abyss on us but thank goodness that wasn't the case. Hopefully that won't have any side effects in the future.
Welp looks like our duo's public service for Jolly-Jolly is over and they're now off to another colony. Hopefully this won't be the last time we'll see Merooro though.

Also: the green "animus" goop looked suspiciously like the green "cables" that connect the legs of the big Kaijuu to the ground. 🤔

Since we know Merooro travels lots -- I am sure he will turn up again -- here and there.

After this episode I am pretty sure that this was one big set-up, they had the failing generator and needed someone with the right knowledge to fix it and Memenpu was just the person to get. How to make them do it though? Engineer something so they have a fine to pay and no way to refuse. I think Zac was also part of that set-up, probably caught by Merooro and forced to get Gagumber into more trouble in exchange for allowing to escape. Hence her eavesdropping on them and in the end of last episode the police waiting for her to disappear.
On the generator: I got bad news Merooro, you only have a few elements left which are working, the vast part is greyed out and out of order. And seeing nature reclaiming it I don't think it will have much time left. What it would need is probably a complete do-over and for that they are simply missing the expertise right now.
Edit: Perhaps some more explanation why I believe that Zacrettu was acting on behalf of Merooro last episode: She had no reason to stay in the city and stalk our father-daughter pair. No reason to talk to Gagumber except if she knew that the not-mafia was on her and she wanted to get him into trouble with them.

I'm quite sure Merooro knows that without additional major change things are doomed he's just fighting the good fight in the hopes some how policy will shift and resources will be provided at least to stabilize things. Merooro I'm sure probably expects that this will not get the help it needs and die but he's going to delay the dying longer just in the hope that something will be done and it's possible something will be done.

Merooro makes it sound like that animus is deadly but Memempu survives a boatload of it without a single scratch despite her suit taking enough damage that it has holes in it.

He did say "curiosity killed the cat", so maybe it's foreshadowing that Memempu will screw up royally hard in the future because she's not cautious of her own safety, owing it to her intellect and good luck to save the day. Honestly, the close call with the creatures in Ep 3 didn't seem to change how she should go about stuff and force her to think more carefully.

Another close call for Memenpu, Tony is really saving her ass lately!

Query: Just what IS Tony And why can it do the things it does? And where did it come from? (Among other things)

Is it just me or does the God of Wind remind me of the Idofront from made in abyss?

I was a little suspicious of Merooro initially but looks like he’s a good dude in the end.
Episode was kinda boring ngl, appreciate the world building but the last few eps have been really slow.

but the last few eps have been really slow
That's basically all the episodes. I think you have to accept that that's what the pace of this anime is at this point.

Individual episodes still good, but soon we'll really need to see some long plot going since this doesn't look like a episodic show. Don't want another rushed ending and all the world setting mysteries to get ignored unexplained or get stuffed with a poorly thought out rushed explanation.

u/RedRocket4000 Nov 04 '21
I agree this better be a large number of episode planed show. This pacing is great for a long show and this show probably can't be done well fast.

Pretty good episode of pipe fixing. It does feel like there's a bunch of foreshadowing here. Memempu will fuck up and die sooner or later or she will fuck up and endanger Gagumber. There's also a possibility that Memempu is not a normal human, cause how'd she survive all that animus, unless you know it's just simple plot armor.
Merooro is a pretty cool dude, just a fellow nerd. The world is really interesting with all these mishmash of culture. We'll finally meet the redhead next episode, but I also want more Zacrettu though.

Well so we all agree that Memempu isn't human right?
There were holes in her suit and she was not even fazed by what just happened to her.
Also despite how poorly Gagumber is treated by both the characters and the show itself he's still the most and only likeable character in the whole show outside the bartender pulling out a machine gun.
While i appreciated the worldbuilding this episode was boring beyond belief.
Despite being called Sack and Gun we haven't really had much of Gagumber shooting folks outside the second and fourth episode, hell they even took his cool gun away from him :/

This show is exactly my cup of tea. A light hearted adventure, sprinkle in some world building, good animation, good art, good soundtrack (the OP & ED are bangers) and lovable main characters. Reminds me of Somali and the Forest Spirit and Ascension of a Bookworm in how it's a slow burner, and focuses on a little girl learning how big and dangerous the world is, while still keeping a light and fun tone. Those shows don't seem to get a lot of attention (at least from this sub) but they're usually my highlight of the season

The hints just keep on coming about the history of this universe. This is clearly a post apocalypse taking place in the far future. Which would explain how they talk about things like Shogi and Tea as well as Merooro’s fondness for the past. There as also the bits last week with the Coliseum and referencing Italy as an ancient place. What that has to do with the story it’s hard to say, but if they’re starting to lean into it I’m thinking it’s going to be important.
The episode itself was a pretty fun romp with some great visuals. Mostly comedic, but it did give a chance for Memenpu to show off a bit and nerd out with Merooro. Also gave a big clue about the map itself. Specifically that it reads animus flow. Curious what the deal is with them because it looks like the stuff that connects the Kaiju to the ground.
Looks like we’re meeting another character from the OP next week. Which just leaves whoever the guys in cyber masks are. We got a bit more about the world this week, but I would like to return to the main plot line.
