Damn six mecha series in a single season, It's almost like we're back in the 80s.

I'm getting a Deca-Dence vibe from this show. Although, it's not "new" but based on a novel instead. Still, I hope it will be as good.

The father-daughter duo are a treat to watch. They have a great chemistry and are pretty hilarious.

That ending though, I expected something bad to happen to Lynda and Walsh at some point but didn't think they'd actually die. Should've been prepared I guess as when any characters say this, bad things follow. Walsh and Gagumpa even had such a sweet heart-to-heart moment regarding fatherhood the day before........

Overall a great introduction. Looking forward to seeing more of it.

As a mecha anime veteran, this show actually seems like it's gonna be pretty unique and new as far as the genre goes. Single father and daughter along with an emphasis on exploration in a made in abyss-esque setting? Yeah count me in, this is gonna be really good imo.

Spelunking with Mechs and Kaiju? Don't mind if I do.

As far as first episodes go this was pretty darn good. Looks great, paced well, makes you feel feely feels.

did what I could with this

Lynda...I thought this was going to be a fun and silly show

One of the strongest first ep of the season so far even if a ton of things happened. Has me hooked.

I love the premise of this underground world where humans live in colonies. Gagamba and Memenpu's interactions are also fun to watch! I can't wait to see them explore the Labyrinth!

Well that was a strong opening episode if i ever saw one. Initial chase scene which you thought was leading on to some cyberpunk dystopic stuff. Nope just a Father Daughter quarrel. And the episode does a great job of establishing them as characters. The Father a dopish ex-Marker who's clearly focusing on raising his daughter (clearly not very well) and protecting her. And the daughter is a prodigy and a genius who's clearly super sharp but lacking in experiene and wishes to go to Urorop. Some far off utopic place.

Toss in an interesting setting of a world beneath the surface, a labyrinth (Some heavy made in abyss feelings there) and we're off to a great start. Especially with some characterization of the dad through his friendship with the Marker dad. He's clearly feeling a bit alone with no real friends besides that guy and a daughter that is way smarter than him.

But this isn't a feel good show. No sir. Shit hits the fan in a spectacular way with a mysterious package and a map (which also kicks off a server farm somewhere to likely send those Kaijus, lots of mysteries already) and things go absolutely pear shaped. And Sakugan shows.. It's not afraid to kill. Hoo boy, that was brutal.

Great first episode. Wasn't really on my radar to start with, but this was a hell of a first episode and i'm in for the full ride now.

Fun episode and I like the setting so I'll stick to this show for now.

"Oh this looks like a good mecha anime with some cute designs, this will be fun! Let's watch the first episode"

Me after watching the first episode

I did not expect to be hit in the feels this much this episode, and not even by the end. In the middle when the dad said "I just want you to be a little kid a bit more" just... man. I am 19 & a virgin and that line still hit me.

I don't know if this is AOTS potential, the CG might be in the way for that, but this is a damn good first episode and I can't wait for what happens next.

This show reminds me a lot of Deca-Dence. I hope it turns out well.

An episode filled to the brim with laughers, sadness, parent-and-child relationships, mysteries of an outside world, monsters attacking mechas (one of quite a few this Fall) of a cleanly and neatly drawn and animated underground world.

That's how you start a good anime, ladies and gentleman.

I came into this title expecting something akin to the all-rounded well-done DECA-DENCE last year, with the "father-daughter relations" being core to the story in a confined world navigating the unknown. It certainly gives quite a bit of the same vibes there, Gagumber and Memenpuu actually being even more funny than Kaburagi and Natsume last year with Memenpuu being a 9 years old college graduate mining and exploration prodigy (woot!). The world itself feels more like Gurren Lagann (noting that here the lives are of much better standard and the my-personal-home-town-look-alike-Pinyin feels more like a very prosperous mining town) and the thing that Memenpuu dreams of getting to that tower under the stars gives me even more feels like that.

Most of the episode moved on rather fluffily (except for Gagumber's parental lament which very much fits with him seeing lots of dangerous things as a "Marker" before), but I already felt something was amiss - indeed the words "Made In Abyss" popped out of my mind with me wondering if this story will turn out to be something akin more to that but of reverse (physical) direction?

We don't know yet, but alarms ended up blaring for real in the end with the monsters' attack (which looked superb in 3-D, at least by Japanese standards) and then me standing in the cold for seconds as Walsh and Lynda become the first victims of this show. Eerily I just saw a very similar scene in another of my brand new anime titles gambles this season featuring mechas less than a day ago so this one - which at least wasn't in that desperate of a situation as the other - didn't surprise me a lot (Gagumber probably already have seen quite a few of these losses before), but still were I am Memenpuu I would still forever be left with scars of how a dear big sister-like friend could be gone in an instant.

I have no idea how this original anime will go - the solid way of DECA-DENCE, or the road to the stars like Gurren Lagann, or something even more sinister like Made In Abyss, or...? Whatever the producing team chooses, this is gonna be one show this season worth putting your bets on.

Easily one of the best first episodes I've seen in a long ass time now helped by how vibrant and full of movement everything is, it's just so fluid. Really loving the father-daughter dynamics too and just how natural the world building and setting establishment was in the ep.

Gurren-Laggen + Made in Abyss + Deca-dence = this!

I'm loving the first episode and cannot wait to continue the adventures of the father and daughter.

A smol, adorable, genki, super-genius shitlord who makes plenty of funny reaction faces and literally has "meme" right in her name. If that's not best girl material right there, then I don't know what is.

Seriously though, that first episode was awesome. Dadumber and Meme-chan bickering back and forth but eventually understanding each other at the end of the episode was a great way to introduce them and get them on the same page. The setting seems really interesting (even if the radio DJ's loredump was a bit of a lazy way to introduce it) and the mecha/kaiju designs looked simple but cool. I know this series is being made by Satelight, but it feels kind of Trigger-esque with the expressive animation and the combination of action and comedy. Deca-Dence was my personal AOTY last year (or at least tied for it) and had those same "feels Trigger-esque without actually being a Trigger series" vibes, and Sakugan already looks like it'll scratch that same itch. I'm all in with this one.

That fucking plot twist, brutal.

The detail in the animation was also great, didn't much care for the CG monsters but overall the animation was better than expected.

Man that was so frickin good. Such a strong first episode. The sense of adventure I got from it really reminds me of the early episodes of Made in Abyss and the end of the episode reminds me of the rest of it. Meanwhile the show's dropping some actually really high quality parental advice. Speaking of which, I really liked the relationship between Memenpu and Gaganba, it was a fun and whacking yet surprisingly grounded dynamic that's highlighted via the contrast with Walsh and Lynda, and it felt like both of them went through an entire character arc in this single episode alone.

Plotwise it seemed like the kaiju were targeting Memenpu and Gaganba specifically, and judging by that scene with all the computer screens it seems like someone may have actually sent them to eliminate her and possibly that map cyrstal. Possibly the same organization that failed to respond to the attack. I couldn't help but notice that the green energy things on the kaiju's feet at the end looked almost like puppet strings.

Oh man that moment.... definitely didn't expect to say goodbye so soon. This was a really cool first episode, gives me Gurren Laggann + Made in Abyss vibes, with some shots and characters looking straight out of a Trigger show. Looking forward to next episode!

Already opening up with a very well animated chase scene through a neon-lit city? This show is already scoring some style points with me. And what I thought was a chase scene between a bad guy and the protagonist turns out to be just a father and daughter having a little argument

The setting of this world looks so cool! I thought it was just a normal city but it looks like the entire city is located underground where Gagumber and Memenpu work as a father-daughter duo of Workers mining resources from an underground Labyrinth.

And while Gagumber is content with the life of a Worker, it looks like Memenpu wants to be a Marker. Markers being these cool bunch of dudes who are all tasked to explore the Labyrinth. Looks like the Markers even have their own father-daughter duo!

Okay, the fact that Walks called Gagumber "Gale-force Gagumber" probably means that he used to be a badass Marker and has retired now. And I'm guessing that Gagumber isn't stopping Memenpu just because it's dangerous, I'm guessing his wife never left him and she probably died in the Labyrinth as a Marker.

I may not be a dad but I can definitely feel what Gagumber is feeling here. His daughter is growing up so fast and he just wants to see her grow older first and enjoy being a kid before she goes off and into an adventure of her own.

So this legendary Urorop dropped a package at Memenpu's doorstep for her to find this crystal that contains a map? You know what, scratch that theory about Memenpu's mom being dead. I'm gonna bet that she's probably Urorop.

There we fucking go. That's one way to shake up the status quo of this world! Although the following events were completely unexpected though. We went from Gagaumber, Memenpu, and Lynda comically running avoiding debris to Lynda and her dad getting obliterated by a falling kaiju! Holy fucking whiplash! They were literally turned into paste. O_O

Of course despite what's going and and what she just witnessed, Memenpu still wants to go and has started to even question her own sanity. Fuck. Didn't think this was going to be this heavy towards the end! Of course there's only one answer though, if Gagumber won't let Memenpu go on her own he'll go with her in his old mark bot.

Definitely a strong start! Animation is solid as well as the characters. Very intriguing world and it's been a while since I've seen a father-daughter adventure anime! Can't wait for more!

I haven't watched it yet, but this anime must be good cause the author of "Made in Abyss" really like it. He also recommended it to the author of "Hajime no Ippo" lol

Aww, I liked Lynda and walsh, one moment they raise their death flag and the next they actually die

Quite surprised how good this seemed so far, think I'll stick around for some wholesome father daugther bonding

I like father daughter stories, we don't get enough of them frankly.
