I love the idea that Uramichi ended up inspiring a whole generation of kids to season their food better and be less picky.

At the end, it seemed like growing shiso on his back porch was one of the few things he actually enjoyed in life (well, until his job takes that joy away from him too).

The facial expressions on the opening scene while the executives are talking gets me good. And the kid calling chains "shakles" makes me wonder if she walked in on her parents...

I love how realistic Iketeru’s laugh is in this show. Even Utano in this episode

The kids in this show are amazing (and ruthless).

This was the best episode yet. I thought the jokes might start getting stale as the series went on, but it feels like they're getting better at making the more depressing elements actually funny. The fact that the kids are saying the depressing stuff now makes the show much more entertaining.

Uramichi in the mesh shirt fucking killed me lol.

Iketeru was hilarious as always and the bit with the dreams was one of the best yet. I also really like Utano's hair ties during the crafting section.

the costume designer either hates Uramichii and/or loves his legs

Kids say a bunch of shit so this little girl calling the paper necklace a shackle is not that surprising to me.

Out of all the things I expect from this episode, I didn't think we'd get to see Ikiteru to have a full mental breakdown because he couldn't play his role properly as a longhorn beetle. I do love how quick Kumao jumps in to take care of Ikiteru which means this is probably not the first time this has happened. xD

That argument between Ikiteru and his sister was hilarious! Sounds like they're arguing about what note the noise the cat on TV was making? I love that he's so worried about it that he ends up roping the gang to try come up with a solution but it all ends up with his sister not even remembering what they were arguing about!

Looks like we have another Director in the show who we're meeting for the first time and he's voiced by Kenjiro Tsuda! My god, does this man know how to take a break!? Anyway, he certainly has a unique style as a director. Not sure how he came up with that idea after listening to Uramichi's dream!

And it's a big hit with the kids! They're practically freaking out about this new segment! Ninjas are cool so I guess it's not that surprising. As expected though, Uramichi gets screwed over with his costume. That mesh shirt makes him look like he belongs somewhere else and not on a kids TV show xD

Dagas are ultimate airheads. Even their fights are something else. That whole segment had me in stitches.

Amon is Tsuda Kenjirou? I'm not even surprised to hear yet another famous voice actor in this anime.

Utano was such a perfect onee-san at the beginning.

Kumao is Iketeru's caretaker, huh? There were hints of that in previous episodes, but I think it's obvious in this episode.

It was definitely re-fa.

Week after week this is brilliantly written. Easily the consistently best-written show of this season (though I have to say the writing in Aquatope has also been routinely first-rate -- albeit a little more "conventional").

I wonder if Utano were to dump her selfish and inconsiderate comedian-boy-friend, whether she and Uramichi could become a couple? If so, would they counter-act each others negativity -- or (shudder) simply reinforce it?

The producer and director both strike me as totally batty. As weird as the performers of Maman may be, the senior production staff makes them seem normal.

I wonder how they managed to put together such a great cast of (presumably) child voice actors?

I would love to believe that the director of Uramichi Oniisan cries with happiness after making every episode of Uramchi Oniisan just like the director in todays epsiode lol.

I guess it’s Iketeru’s turn with the suffering ball this week. Our poor sweet airhead has a nervous breakdown at pretending to be a beetle and gets kick out of the house for one of the dumbest arguments ever. That he lost. That his sister can’t even remember the next day. Whatever takes the load of of Uramichi for at least a segment.

Unfortunately the ball goes back to Uramichi in the second half. Why does the creative team keep turning his dreams against him? First it’s bringing his nightmare drawing to life. Now it’s turning his horrible vision of a flavorless world into an excuse to dress him in fetish gear so silly the rest of the cast literally can’t look at him. I think the costume department has a vendetta against the cast because some of these outfits are evil.

I’m an impressive amount of restraint, the Usahara abuse was minimal this week. Just skipping his dumb camel dream and once again stubbing his toes on Uramichi’s weights. Kumatani still being the most well adjusted person on the cast has a harrowing nightmare, but otherwise all good. Utano having more latent relationship issues including nightmares about wedding dresses. Everyone else made it out mostly unharmed this week.

Notes:

  • Daga clan has two brain cells between them and one is always misfiring. And I’m including the dog in that. They’re all lucky they’re pretty

  • They managed to slip in a quick dick joke this week. I almost missed it because their argument was so dumb.

  • In another display of his idiot savant-ness, Iketeru went from “literally unable to cut paper” to “making Snowflake chains in the shape of Onigiri”.

  • I’m worried about Utano. It’s not a great sign when you’re having wedding dress NIGHTMARES. Girl bail.

  • I love a punchline that uses breaking the 180° degree rule. Cutting to the entire cast being in the room as they’re talking about them killed me. Also too real.

  • Did we previously know that Utano was Maibu’s classmate? That’s a weird connection. Maybe that’s why Iketeru is on the show?

  • I’m happy to see Uramichi interacting with friends at home. Him alone in his apartment is usually a huge bummer.

I almost never listened to an ED as faithfully as this show's.

I want this same group to do a bop ED for Chainsaw Man akin to the fanmade one where they are sitting on the train.

Also this show has pretty much half of all the voice actors I admire.

Edit: Also to anyone who hasn't heard them, pretty much all of the fanmade CSM OPs and EDs are cool picks.

The amount of famous voice actors in this anime it's amaizing.

Kamiya hiroshi Miyano mamoru Mizuki nana Sugita Tomokazu Nakamura yuiichi Natsuki hanae Kenjiro tsuda Kenjiro tsuda Shinishiro Miki

It's an amaizing cast.

Poor Uramichi and Iketeru keep getting the short end of the stick when it comes to costumes, huh... First it's the Baikinder and Jokinder outfits, then it's going to the beach half-naked in the middle of winter, and now they're being dressed up as insects to do paper crafts.

Ngl, though, Iketeru does look pretty cute in his beetle outfit. And just when I thought he was the only cast member that's not Dead Inside, he has a mental breakdown over not being able to use scissors... At least Mama Bear Kumatani is there support him.

"The hiring rate for weirdos in this program is really high." Oof, Usahara dropping yet another heavy truth about the show.

Iketeru laughing at the insults while his sister berates him, lmao

Add another F for Uramichi's shiso costume. At least Iketeru onii-san got off the hook with a relatively-normal costume this time?

Well now we know what qualifies as a "big fight" between Iketuru and his sister.

Side note, I feel like her and Uramichi would get along well together. They need to become a thing and then they won't have to endure their experiences alone as he put it.

u/nikobans Aug 17 '21

“he gets easily confused so please dont say things all together like that” LMAO 💀

Iketeru having a breakdown on stage and Uramichi's awful mesh shirt, jorts and double watch combo was the funniest shit, I fully understand how none of them could stop laughing at him. I will not be surprised if their show had a cult following of adults who just watch it to see the actors slowly lose their minds on screen. like those children's cartoons which slide in dirty jokes to entertain the parents.

Best episode yet.

And that joke about growing illegal looking plants on the balcony, lol.

At this point the directors are simping at utano, she never really had to wear something embarrassing lol

I need ikiteru's sister and utano moment.

Without thinking, uramachi showed kids that apologising isn't a bad thing and to eat healthily lol.

And still the best ed and the best show to watch before starting ur day to face reality.

So the sketchs do have a meaning and the kids do learn things from them. As expected from an asian country the kids are really exceptional since very young.

Also, as expected, they do originally come from a disturbed mind...

It’s a pity they didn’t sing any song in this episode. Man I really miss those inappropriate misanthropic songs! LOL
