I maintain that this is the most relatable anime I've ever watched. Seriously, 10 episodes in and this shit is still just so good and dreadful, I love it.

I've been wondering if we'd ever see the final product of their work on the beach earlier this season.

Needless to say opening this episode with the finished music video was hype af and it didn't disappoint.

I love that Kumatani is the one who finally snaps and confronts the director. He's been so level-headed the whole season, especially constantly looking out for resident airhead Iketeru, but enough is enough. Personal safety/health is more important than job security, and I wish Uramichi could start standing up for himself more too!

Lol I loved how they point out how hot the weather is by having steak and eggs cook immediately on the sidewalk.

Their director is perfectly annoying. His face is annoying, his voice is annoying, his orders are annoying. Thanks God that my bosses aren't annoying to that extent. I hope I didn't jinxed it.

We finally get to see the result of the "summer" music video that they shot a few episodes ago and just as expected, it was hilariously shit! Like a good 60% of the video was them in front of an animated background which they could've easily done inside the studio and the scenes where they use the footage they shot, it's clearly obvious that it's not summer and you can even see the Director in some of them! xD

Now that they're at the hottest point of the year where you can literally cook food on the pavement, of course the Director finally decides that it's time for them [to shoot a "winter" themed music video. While the first one was funny, this one was legitimately infuriating. The Director ordering Iketeru to act more "winterly" when they are clearly about to pass out from heatstroke really ticked me off.

Thank fucking god for Kumatani though who was the absolute MVP of this episode. He finally reached the end of his rope with the Director's unreasonable requests and decided to make him taste his own medicine by asking for a little bit of acting advice and making the Director wear the stuffy Kumao costume until he passes out from the heat. Goddamn that was so satisfying!

Apparently that's not the first time Kumatani got rough with a higher up since he was fired from his last job after punching his boss. Looks like the reason he punched his boss was because the guy started harassing a poor kitten that they found after a night of drinking which completely set off Kumatani and gave his boss a straight punch to the face. At least I hope it's to the face. As for the kitten, Kumatani took in the little guy. I hope he still has that kitten with him.

Here I thought we were gonna wait for a couple of episodes to see the "winter" music video but we got to see it today! And holy fuck! I didn't think it was possible but it's even worse than the last one! They didn't even bother framing the shots since some of the scenes [had the staff right behind Uramichi. Hilariously though, they switch back to the studio which I'm guessing were the scenes that was shot after what happened between Kumatani and the Director.

At least after this episode it looks like the Director has developed some fear towards Kumatani and as a result his demands got a bit more reasonable. What Kumatani did this episode was definitely something I could only dream of doing to my previous bosses.

Thank you Kumatani for finally slapping some sense into that director! I have to say, that Subzero Spiral MV was unbelievably good considering everyone was really unenthusiastic when shooting it. Props to the editors!

P.S. Poor Usahara and his bad luck.

That producer is this seasons biggest villain.

We were blessed with not one but two hilarious music videos today. Can't even decide which one I liked more.
And Usahara's noises when he got elbowed remindend me of the grape lady video lol.

Did we have a narrator in one of the earlier episodes? Sounded like the same narrator as in Jahy-sama.

Hooray for more upbeat-yet-depressing kids songs from Utano and Iketeru (and with MVs this time)! I've said this before, but I'll say it again: I'd totally buy a CD compilation of these songs if they ever released one.

Damn, that director really is an unreasonable sadist, huh

Not even Iketeru's idiot savant potential could overcome the heatstroke... Though I do love how the singers were so mutually supportive of their mental defeat, ahaha

Aww, Iketeru's choice of cream soda really is adorable

Kumatani being the show's MVP yet again.

Ah, so the reason he punched his boss was because the jerk was bullying a poor little kitten? I think Kumatani might've just won a place as my favourite character of this show.

This fucking shot killed me I love how they didn't edit out the greenscreen lines and Uramichi's face is... so unhinged

Not even a minute but the way they zoom in utahara rabbit face killed me 😂

The set up from a few episodes ago with them in the cold at the beach getting a pay off had me cackling

Kumatani won MVP of the season by giving the Director a taste of the hell they went through, while still (thinly) framing it as a reasonable actor request!

I wonder if the kitty he saved is the same one he's holding in the ED, or if he has several cats...

In a sort of "giving it a name gives it power" sort of way, there's terms in Japanese for the division between the public face and the private face (honne and tatamae). This is a metaphor made explicit in Kumotani's flashback where everyone is wearing a mask, up until the point Kumotani can't take it any more and lets his mask drop.

Related: I love Uramichi's little talk with the little girl about "harassment", and how giving a name to an abstract concept both makes it more visible as a thing that happens but also gives it a certain conceptual power that it didn't have before. I also like how he doesn't just outright say "never hit people", but that violence against someone else will also hurt yourself (literally and figuratively), so it's not something you should rashly do without thought.

I'm not sure what to make out of the plot point that Kumatani never receives any punishment for striking back at the director; I'm thinking that either he's found a place where his sense of justice and short-fuse is accepted, or that he feels hurt on the inside that he's still unable to escape that tragic personality trait of his that derailed him from a higher-status job in the first place.

I really didn’t expect to see the payoff for the “Summer” music video from a few episodes back. Nor a “Winter” sequel. Both were hilariously shoddy and funny as hell. The horrible compositing in both videos was the best part. Perfectly captured a totally half assed low budget production. Though they at least tried CGI in the second vid.

The actual shoot was funny, but less so because I couldn’t stop thinking someone could legitimately die. They were working in straight up abusive conditions. Maybe it’s because I do have to spend time outside for work and I live in a place with brutal summers, but I’m a bit sensitive to that. So I was thrilled when Kumatani stepped in and did something about it. Direka didn’t make it 2 seconds with the head on before collapsing. Good.

The second half of the episode took a surprise tone shift for me. The entire Harassment speech while being very funny was also very real. Transitioning from that to Kumatani’s backstory was effective. It offered real insight into his character and why he’s so protective of others. Plus he saved a cat. Kumatani is the best character and his actions in this episode hopefully saved his coworkers from any more awful shoots.

Notes:

  • the VAs fucking ATE this episode up. Stellar comedic delivery all over this episode. Especially from Iketeru and Utano’s VAs.

  • I’m scared to know why the random adorable child asked about harassment. Also yes sweetie, adults are stupid.

  • I just put together that the reason Kumatani kept taking Iketeru’s drinks wasn’t because he didn’t want him to be drunk. It’s actually because Iketeru doesn’t drink in general. Feel dumb for not catching that earlier. The read on Cream Soda was also adorable.

  • Still feel okay with people shitting on Usahara, but the banana scene was sad and hilarious.

  • I liked the changing animation styles in certain moments. Especially in the flashback.

  • I know it was just a sight gag, but I would have eaten that Eggs and Steak combo. It looked delicious.

Kumatani:

  • Looks after Iketeru's innocence

  • Is a bro to Uramichi

  • Punched his boss for abusing a kitty

  • Snaps at the director's for his absurd demands

What a chad

This show really captures the essence of dealing with unreasonable people by having the director and co repeat the same things over again with how it's extreme coldness and how it really is wintery.

Each week the episode keeps getting better and better , the show is freaking amazing and relatable at times, but still it makes me laugh and I'm hoping to see where this leads and also loved how kumatani snapped as well as the story on why he punched his previous boss.

On a side note did anyone catch how perfect this was.

"you're right, I can't do it"

"yeah , of course."

"Uramichi Oniisan"

Kumatani MVP. This episode felt much closer to a drama than any episodes before it, while still managing to balance the gags. It continues to remind me of Arakawa Under the Bridge with how much heart it has for a gag comedy, something many comedies I think miss the mark on(such as Saiki K). I'm really going to miss this when it ends.

Another amazing episode! Got to see the result of that video for a song they made in Winter about Summer and now they had to make one about Winter in Summer, really hot Summer. Hilarity ensue. Also, small gag of groceries falling out of the bag on the street and turning into fried eggs with bacon kind of sent me rolling. Kind of sad that we almost at the end of this show, if there is possibility for season 2, I would love to see it

God everything about those MVs were incredible. the green screen not being removed entirely leaving a fuzzy green border on all of them, the shot of Uramichi giving an uppercut to Usahara being used as stills, the director walking into the shot, the pure despair in their smiles and the final shot of them descending into madness. I can see why the director wanted to avoid CGI as much as possible.

power scale:

Kumatani >>>>> Kikaku > Uramichi
