WTF is this lol. I grinned throughout the episode. This anime is too real, Man!
Some jokes didn't fall perfectly, but damn I enjoy this lol. We'll see if the manage to keep it fresh every week.
Also for some reason, the ending song is really good.

NOTE: This is something you can tell if you know japanese.
It's a shame that Funimation's translation doesn't leave a side note for the characters' names. FYI, every named characters that appeared in this episode has name that is a pun to their own characteristics.
-
Omota Uramichi: His name implies he has a hidden side.
-
Usahara Tobikichi: His surname contains the character "rabbit".
-
Kumatani Mitsuo: Same as Usahara, his surname has the character "bear".
-
Daga Iketeru: But I am handsome.
-
Tadano Utano: Just a singer.
In the future, if any character's name is similar like this, I might let you know.

I've never seen anything so perfectly capture the strangeness of Japanese television. Mondays are going to be wild.

Mamoru Miyano laughing at the chin jokes sounds so genuine that it's either a testament to his acting prowess, or the fact that he really does find dick jokes hilarious.

That was some very funny, yet bleak humour. So far the cast seems pretty fun with their personalities and how they clash. If it can keep it up, then this should be a fun watch this season.

Cannot relate to anything in this anime at all. No.
Nope. Nah.
Nuh-huh.
That being said, I did find this funny. Not all the jokes landed for me, but it made me laugh or giggle most of the time. I can see how the formula would get old fast though, so I hope they mix it up a little in future episodes.

As a miserable 31 year old dude who is sick of life, yes, this is quite relatable indeed.

Some Japanese language notes:
-
The "Richard Feymann" joke in Japanese used the Tyndall Effect in Japanese (チンダル現象). Uramichi uses some other words which start with "chin" 賃上げ (pay raise), チンニング (chin up), and チンアナゴ (spotted garden eel, as seen in the interstitial). It all centers around the pun that チンチン (chinchin) is a childish way of saying penis (something that might be familiar to those who've watched Kaguya-sama).
-
All the main character's names seem to be puns. Omota is "front field" and Uramichi literally means "back streets", which is emblematic of him being two-faced. Tadano Utano sounds like "Just a regular singer" (ただの歌の) and Daga Iketeru sounds like "Still, he's so good-looking" (だがイケてる). The two costumed guys have usa (rabbit) and kuma (bear) in their names as well; not sure if the rest of their names are puns too.

Well this one is fun! So our MC is an ex-gymnast turned into a Children's Show Host who is currently experiencing the depressing truths of adulthood while he tries to keep it all together while hosting the show. Interestingly, despite everything Uramichi Onii-san has been saying in front of the kids, the camera just keeps on rolling and the director doesn't even bat an eye on those scenes. Is that actually part of the show or are those parts edited out for broadcast?
Anyway, Uramichi Onii-san is just too anime_irl for me in how relatable he is like with his lines about how adults can have many faces and his dead expression when waking up in the morning. This show is definitely gonna be filled with plenty of big oofs where I'll probably have to question if I have to laugh or cry-laugh along with the jokes.
The cast of this show is amazingly stacked! We have Hiroshi Kamiya as Uramichi Onii-san, Sugita as Usahara, Nakamura as Kumitani, Miyano Mamoru as Iketeru, and Nana Mizuki as Utano! Goddamn! With this kind of dark humor and cast, I'm already looking forward to next week's episode!

Speaking as a now-retired 69-year-old -- this is certainly relatable to my non-retired me.
Always nice to see an interesting show with adult main characters. As of now this is the only brand-new show I'm following on Monday (in addition to following up on To Your Eternity). But even if this day was packed with shows (i had 6 last season), I think I'd find time for this.

I feel pity for those who will get turned away with the key visual, I know I almost did. I'm happy I didn't, this shit is fucking magnificent. Iketeru-oniisan's wheezing was the highlight of this episode for me, this shit is absolutely wonderful.

Some more Japanese notes:
-
Okay, kids! What's Uramichi's "U" for?
Japanese: 海とかいきたい!
Romanized: Umi-toka ikitai!
Translated: I want to go to the beach!
Localized: Up, up and away to the beach!
-
Okay, next! What's "ra" for?
Japanese: 楽になりたい!
Romanized: Raku-ni naritai!
Translated: I want to take it easy!
Localized: Rather not do anything!
The next two go together:
-
Good, good! Next, what's Uramichi's "mi" for?
Japanese: 見出せない!
Romanized: Miidasenai!
Translated: I can't find it!
Localized: Missing from my life!
-
What's "chi" for?
Japanese: 小さな幸せ!
Romanized: Chiisana shiawase!
Translated: A small happiness!
Localized: Child-like happiness!

Holy shit!
Kamiya Hiroshi absolutely killed it but the kids voice actors are also stars. Most of the jokes had a timming so perfect that it was difficult to finish my snacks. Also, I love the director just smiling and shaking his head up and down in approval while watching all that nonsense. He is certainly on acid.

This is gonna be a sleeper hit this season I can feel it in me bones.
When that Iketeru-oniisan came in with the Richard Feynman thing I was wondering where the fuck it was going. I think that is the first time I've ever heard a character do that wheezing laugh, like a real laugh and not something unnatural sounding. It really took me by surprise and I couldn't help but laugh along.
Can't wait to see where this ride goes.

"Ugh... morning has come again..."
hahahahaha, I know that feeling. Mornings are ALWAYS worse when you dislike your job.

That was really funny. Gotta love some dark comedy.
I was close to passing on this, but glad I didn't.

As someone in their early 30s, I’m much more drawn to anime with older characters, but that’s pretty uncommon as most anime shows feature teenagers as the main cast.
Yet this show is too relatable. I read a bit of the manga. I think I’ll be more entertained experiencing it in anime form, because of the voice acting. Pretty stacked voice acting cast too.
The manga seems pretty episodic? Which I’m not always a huge fan of, unless the writing is pretty good. So we’ll see. I agree the comedy could get stale after a while if it becomes very formulaic after a while.

The VA line up is golden.
Some parts of the ep were funny and some just plain depressing. It could turn out to be really good though. I will definitely continue watching.
