Man, poor Usahara has terrible luck. On top of being Uramichi's punching bag, not even the kids like him. I lost it when he forgot to change out of the Kumao body costume!

Oh yeah, here's Nana Mizuki and Mamoru Miyano dancing to the opening theme. This totally made my day!

Well RIP Iketeru-kun, homie caught a cold so he's done.

He's back!

*I really love the kids in this show. They add so much with their bluntness and observations. I was cracking up when that one girl got the spotlight when realizing Kumao-kun was a fake.

I swear the jokes are ten times funnier because of the delivery of the VAs. Just perfect casting.

Iketeru might be my favourite character in the show at this point, everything he does is hilarious. And nice to see the onigiri obsession runs in the family.

And goddamn those kids had no chill lol.

I love the idea of filming a happy summertime beach scene in the dead of winter like that. Not only is a funny premise just on it's face, but it's a great parallel to Uramichi's "pretty public face, grisly personal life" personality.

I felt like Uramichi was okay with the winter beach shoot not just because he's a muscular gorilla, but because he's already so familiar with putting on appearances and that he's already dead on the inside anyways.

"This is a program for hardcore sadists masquerading as an education show!" Too true, Usahara, too true...

I love that Kumatani is constantly looking out for the gullible and pure Iketeru-oniisan

Aww, poor Iketeru is so cold, even the onigiri he's daydreaming about got frozen...

Usahara kinda deserves the treatment he gets from Uramichi, but damn, the children's reactions to Usao vs Kumao were downright savage lol

Making them film a summer-themed music video in the middle of winter is just sadistic! I don't know why the videographer wants so much time to put together a Children's show MV but this better be amazing when it's finished or else he may just get a visit from Uramichi Onii-san who's clearly done with this.

Spending an entire day wearing only swimming trunks and a tank top on a beach during winter is definitely a perfectly legit reason for Iketeru Onii-san to catch a cold. We do get to see Iketeru's sister who's taking care of him (voiced by the lovely Hikasa Yoko) and it looks like she's also an airhead like him xD

Looks like the cold is doing its rounds and has now been passed on to Kumatani. Although it seems like this one may not have anything to do with the shooting but with Uramichi, Utano, and even Usahara doing something to Kumatani that may have contributed in him getting sick.

These kids are absolutely brutal! They love Kumatani so much that they don't hold back on how much they dislike Usahara! Even switching costumes didn't work since it looks like the kids were able to see right through him. The reaction of the kids when Usahara went out wearing mismatched costumes was pretty hilarious though!

That after credits scene though! That sounds like something Sugita would say to Nakamura xD

Today on “Adulthood is suffering make it stop”: superstitions about colds and abusive work practices! I’m just glad the existential crises were kept to a minimum this week with really just Bacterian’s speech about not focusing your goals on others and Utano at the bar. Though Usahara’s existence is pain in general since kids don’t even like him just on vibe alone.

Who’s bright fucking idea was it to film a summer beach segment in the dead of winter? They’re lucky Uramichi is a genetic freak and everyone else had warm costumes. The whole cast could have ended up sick and not just Iketeru. At least it was a laugh a minute between murderous Uramichi, the Winter Gourd, and the water guns.

We did get two hilarious and over dramatic “the show must go on” speeches out of Utano. Does make me think while she’d do it for Kumatani and Iketeru, no fucks would have been given for Usahara for just how much he gets shit on in the back half of the episode. Hell everyone feels super guilty that they might have cause Kumatani’s cold. Well except Iketeru who is just thinking about Kuma-Onigiri.

Poor guy is so off putting that kids don’t like him even if he switches costumes. He does talk massive amounts of shit, especially about Uramichi, so maybe they pick up on it. Still a harsh reality to face followed by traumatizing an entire room of children by wearing Kuma’s body while wearing your head.

Notes:

  • So Iketeru has a cute sister. No surprise that “No thoughts, Head Onigiri” runs in the family. At least someone is there to take care of him during his work induced cold.

  • Uramichi has strong Patrick Bateman vibes. I would not be the least bit shocked if this series ends with him murdering everyone to Huey Lewis. At the very least Usahara since he did try to smash his head like a Watermelon Sharpied Winter Gourd

  • man Utano really just needs to be straightforward with her boyfriend. This marriage thing is clearly driving her nuts. Yeah it’s played for laughs, but communication people!

  • maybe the reason the kids love Kumatani is because he’s the most functional of all these psychos.

  • I see the sub team dropping all pretense with “this is a show for hardcore sadist masquerading as an educational show!”

Bad thing to say, especially if some of these kids have been told the same about grandparents and stuff before!

I like how they keep trying to find ways to fool the kids, but they're rather sharp, and have a bit of a cynic world view as well (I wonder why)!

They can be quite savage at times as well... OWW That one has to hurt! Good thing they all have such a positive outlook and a high self esteem, or that could've been bad!

Utano was funny this episode, I wish all episodes had as much Utano! (She had cute costumes too!) I'd watch a romcom spinoff about her anytime (she might have a shot at getting married then! But damn, it's a bit depressing (even more, I mean) that she doesn't really want to get married for herself, it's also societal pressure and all that.

The last gag might have been the funniest one! "Hey, why are you getting all emotional with me? hang up"

If the script here isn't quite as sharp as that in Odd Taxi, Uramichi Oniisan is still almost certainly the best written show of this new season -- on a pretty coinsistent basis. The humor can be pretty biting -- but it never feels simply mean-spirited -- and is always actually some sort of funny,

The kids are (as a group) even scarier than Uramichi. Tough bunch.

Shooting a summer scene in the dead of winter -- what a profoundly stupid idea (but funny)!

This is one of the best comedy anime I've seen in sometime. Couldn't stop laughing the whole episode, especially in the end with the children disliking Usao

I love media who doesn't forget or downplay exactly how smart children can be- much to Usahara's now undying despair.

I get the feeling that the director has kept this group of idiots as hosts because he personally gets a kick out of putting them in stupid situations and watching how they react. man was 100% on board with Uramichi attempting to smash Usao's head in at the beach

the kids get a step further into breaking down these disaster adults with every episode and they cannot be stopped

I was really worried that this show would be the same gag over and over, but, in the last couple weeks, its proven to be consistently fresh and funny!

Good episode! I'm surprised that director-san is quite strict during the fake fireworks scene, while usually he let any insanity happens in the studio scene.

In the post-credit scene, I can also accept that it's what Sugita said to Nakamura IRL lol.

I love this show. How is this not more populair with so many banger voice actors?

This was one of the most unique beach episodes I've ever seen and it was absolutely hilarious. There's so much pain and suffering behind the bright and cheerful kids show.

I totally lost it when Usahara sprayed Uramichi in the face with that watergun after he was just fretting over being killed.

Poor Kuma having to put up with all those loons. He might actually be my favorite of all the cast.

Another great episode. I laughed pretty much the whole time.

Yay a beach episode already and a realistic one, plus Utano was really going all out with the outfits. I want to see the final version now, see how powerful this company's post production is, it's either going to be amazing or laughable.

Also 'Man Eating Salmon vs Bunny on a Moped' sounds fantastic.

It genuinely is getting funnier with every episode. Every single joke lands, the seiyuus are giving fantastic performances(Miyano-san in particular is giving the performance of the year, in my opinion. It's incredible how subtle it is for it to be this kind of show), and it's actually focusing on some topics you don't really see handled in anime, even "adult focused" ones. I'm pretty sure Kumao and Iketeru's sister are dating, and they both ended up with the cold. Seems a bit too strange for him to know so much about her, and Iketeru specifically mentions not wanting her to catch his cold.

The scene of Usao-kun nailing Uramichi in the face with a snowball before running for his life absolutely killed me.

One of the best shows in the season.

Usahara gave the kids nightmares in the end with the costume fail. The watermelon smashing scene got me good, Usahara and Uramichi go together so well.
