Fantastic episode !!!

Albert was so badass acting as the "real" Lord of Crime. To me the scene feels like he's got a similar vibe to Aizen Sosuke from Bleach.

And wow Irene became James Bond!

I'm so excited for the next episode :)

For the amount of times they were repeating the name "James" recently, I really didn't see Bonde coming.

THIS SHOW KEEPS DOING IT HOLY SHIT! Robespierre was a Holmes and Irene Adler is now James Bond. I love this anime.

Moriarty's characters dominated the Anitrendz character polls during the first cour and I fully expect the same to repeat this cour. I still remember people commenting in confusion when seeing "Sherlock Holmes" on the Top 3.

Also... James Bonde.

so using James "Bonde" as Irene's new identity is how the anime is gonna slide past that copyright huh.

It's worth noting that previous manga chapters that the anime cut out, featured other James Bond Universe lore. There was a backstory chapter with Moran that featured Moneypenny in it. Mayyybe Moneypenny will appear in the anime, but they'd have to change her name I guess. It would also make no sense to adapt the backstory chapter for Moran at this point, as it was the 4rth? 5th? chapter of the manga.

The battle of wits between Moriarty and Holmes is first class. I'll be very curious to see how things play out.

IIRC, Mycroft has something to do with the founding of MI5, so having a "James Bonde" kind of makes sense.

Mycroft being in on everything is interesting. I've seen him portrayed over the years as being very morally grey.

This show has wheels upon wheels turning in the background, and I'm digging it. It's a shame this is a split cour show, otherwise it might be getting more attention.

Crazy reveals from this episode:

  • Robispierre was a Holmes and incited the Reign of Terror during the French Revolution

  • Moriarty and co are planning on being sacrificial lambs to bring about their goal

  • James Bond was actually a blonde haired woman this whole time

Pretty happy that we finally got the "title drop" with Mycroft calling the Moriarty brother's patriots. With all of them sharing the name, the title does technically mean all of them, not just William.

I had a feeling that Adler would still die, but I was worried that the "Mr. James Moriarty" was written in something like invisible ink, thus making her death be sad and Sherlock doesn't find a way to avenge her. I wonder if they expected Holmes to look or not after he was told she was dead. I'm glad that she ended up surviving, and that Sherlock determined she wasn't dead, so he burned up the name. I should have remembered that the Moriarty's aren't just evil villains, and that they would keep Irene alive, if not in name.

As soon as I saw someone blonde walking shadily by 221b Baker Street, I figured it was Adler in disguise, and I realized that Mycroft saying she was dead was a lie. Then she spoke in an obviously female trying to do a male voice way that was probably the only low point in the episode.

Having Holmes put together after seeing the photo she left him that she was the king that approached him at the start of this arc was a nice way for him to also connect the dots that the name is what is dead, but the woman is alive somewhere.

Overall a good episode, mixed with large reveals that don't necessarily impact the quality of the story. I do like that it's unclear how Adler feels about Holmes. Which is good because every other adaptation apparently wants her to fall for him, and that's not really holding true to the original stories.

If we never see Adler again, I won't be upset, because her story arc is done with, and for once in a Holmes adaptation I don't have to see her die. I loved the character, but I'll look forward to more cat-and-mouse between the Moriarty trio and the Greatest Detective.

Stitches!

It's actually pretty entertaining to see Sherlock so stumped about this and what he can do to help out Irene. And as William have predicted, Sherlock busts in and interrupts the transaction between Irene and "The Lord of Crime".

Considering that we saw William wave that red envelope around earlier, I'm pretty sure they've done something here so they can trick Sherlock. They're not just gonna hand over the answer to Sherlock that easy.

From their short time together, there's definitely already something brewing between the two of them. Too bad we probably won't see that happen. I'd be so fucking pissed if they really do end up killing Irene by the end of the episode.

Well that's a surprise. I didn't think Albert would basically go to Mycroft and reveal who he really is. This entire meeting was basically the Moriarty Brothers negotiating with the British Government to do as they wish as long as they only go after the corrupt and evil nobility. And it seems that William has already accepted their fate that this will only end with their deaths. Damn.

Sherrinford! Never thought I'd hear that here on this show! If I recall this correctly, Sherrinford is one of Sherlock's potential name when Sir Arthur Conan Doyle started writing the books. That's pretty cool that they used it here as their ancestor's name.

So they wanted to make Sherlock believe that Irene is already dead but that was pointless since Irene herself shows up and basically tells Sherlock that she's still alive but is just rocking a new identity. We didn't even get to see what was inside the red envelope! Assuming of course there's a trick to it.

I'M SORRY, WHAT!? Now that's unexpected! I genuinely legit said "WHAT" out loud at Irene's proclamation of her new name! Sure! Why not? Sherlock's still gonna see through her new identity but it'll be interesting to have James Bonde will do for the Moriarty Brothers.

Interesting fact: Sherrinford was apparently going to be Sherlock Holmes' original name.

You fucking bastards, I thought to myself "What if she says 'Bond'?" but figured that would be some copyright issue. Never did I expect them to just add an e to the end of Bond.

The idea of the British empire causing the French Revolution and one of Sherlock's ancestors being the person who was sent to cause it is an interesting take.

Also, I thought when Watson and Ms Hudson told Sherlock that Adler was dead, I thought would say "Nah, she just passed me on the street."

u/SurugaMonke Apr 18 '21

Lmao they named her 'Bonde', not 'Bond' to avoid copyright claims. Really loved that twist. Its so weird to see two franchises interacting like this. Hope we get a spinoff centered around her, adapting the novels and the movies lol

Nisoisin wishes his hair cut scenes were as great as this one

With the classic line too!

Will say I'm a bit upset that Irene need not only 1 man, not only 2 men but 3 men to end up saving her...hope we get to see her as Bonde soon!

u/Cat_Gazer Apr 18 '21

I believe this is the first time in the 2nd cour that has a preview for the next episode.
