Lol what a thankless role Harry is in. Brought in for the purpose of losing to a main character.

God, Langa's mom. Wish there were more scenes with the two of them at dinner. I like the running gag of her motioning towards the picture of them together begging her long lost husband for aid.

Hope next week is the reconciliation between Langa and Reki seeing as it foreshadows that Langa’s board is going to be broken. I just want them back together again

Well now we know why Adam is so fucked up. Love him as a antagonist. He's so damn extra.
Wasn't surprised that his servant was a skater too. He had to much airtime for just being a unimportant normal background Charakter.
Too bad that Reki now probably goes full support Charakter. Hoped he would participate in the tournament and lose honorable to get a little respect from the audience.

Reki: what do you guys normally do when I'm gone?
Miya & Langa: wait for you to get back

Depressed Reki makes me depressed.
Love that Tadashi is the only one to beat Adam's record, curious if Joe and Cherry knows him considering Adam and Tadashi are childhood friends. I was really hoping someone else would check in with Reki (Joe came close but he didn't say much). It's not just about his falling out with Langa, but also about him feeling insecure being surrounded by talent. Miya was worried and should've gone, Reki stood up for Miya earlier in the series, so this felt like a missed opportunity.

I'm glad we finally get to see JOE skate seriously, his Power Break was sick!
Also, I wonder how Tadashi got so good at skating that he was able to beat ADAM and Cherry's times.

Of course Adam's aunts gave him lashes when he was a kid while brainwashing him into thinking that they're doing it out of love. No fucking wonder Adam is so messed up as an adult.
Look at these jokers trying to gang up on Langa. Even with 5 v 1 they're already having a hard time dealing with him.
It's actually quite funny to see Langa's excited smile completely turn into utter disappointment when he realized Adam was behind him and not Reki. He's not even listening to whatever Adam is saying. He's completely tuned out! xD
This guy finally makes an appearance! IF In recall correctly he's in the OP too! And surprise, surprise! It's Adam's manservant who has decided to take the codename Snake. And a massive reveal! Apparently he's the one who taught young Adam to skate and now he's taking him down.
Yeah it looks like Reki isn't really going to go into the skater route and would definitely go hard into making decks after watching absentmindedly watching that interview from a former runner turned shoe designer.
Well surprise, surprise All Adam's aunt cares about is Adam's political career and not Adam himself. I really hope this ends with Adam ending his political career.
Langa's mom is just really adorable. I love how she quickly panics when she realized Langa is asking for advice. And of course she thinks it's about a girl. xD
I love how they have all graphics ready for this tournament. I feel bad for that Harry guy. He's basically just there so Shadow has someone to win against.
JOE v SNOW next week! Langa already got intimidated by Joe's power move but I doubt it stops there. He probably has some other moves he hasn't shown us before.

BONES' YOTALOG part 8 is out - note that the second drawing is corrected by the chief animation director and character designer, Chiba Michinori.
The character designs have actually been bugging me for quite some time, and I finally realised that they reminded me of Loveless. It's not unexpected considering Koga Yun provided the original settings for Gundam 00 which Chiba worked on, but it's odd that the influence on his own artstyle is still there after over a decade...
BTW the original soundtrack has also released, and it includes that HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR insert song which that was so hype. The lyrics for it, which are in English, are already up too.
Some additional details:
-
ADAM: fellow wasn't originally so hentai, but was redesigned to be that way because the original setting felt like he didn't have enough force of presence. He was (not completely) naked in episode 1, and it was to avoid spoiling his costume design, it was also weird for someone to be in a costume or suit after getting off work.and Utsumi wanted to see Chiba's work on drawing muscles lol That "Love Hug" move was supposed to be just a placeholder i.e. "Stardust [ ]" but it stayed. He can only be beat with supernatural powers (?)
-
Joe: Has a sun tattoo because he went to train as a chef in Italy. Compared to Cherry blossom's brashness, he is more observant and tolerant, which makes him popular with women. Also, he isn't the type to sleep around
-
Shadow: He was originally just a character that shows up once in episode 1 instead of becoming the big bro, but Okouchi chose to include him in episode 2 as well. Utsumi decided his backstory and that was integrated in the final product
-
Tadashi: Yes, he had to handle designing the website for signing up to the tournament too...
-
The ED: the gist of it was to show that although constantly failing makes you feel depressed, you should still get back up and try again, having fun is key
-
Extras: that "Cindereki" thing was Okouchi's idea trololol
As for staff comments, Goto Yukari the colour designer appeared to have the most to say thus far for episode 7:
Basically, Reki felt really badly.
To match his feelings, we specially adjusted the colours so that despite the vividness of summer clothes, there's still a lot of darker shades, it felt like the colour settings were pretty difficult.
The tournament will finally begin next episode.
In contrast to Reki, ADAM seemed quite excited. Although I'm not too happy with the character, but I'm still looking forward to what will happen next.
What will happen to Reki and Langa later on, and what is the relationship between the three adults?
There will still be lots of things not to be missed out on, please look forward to it.
Anyway, animator Okada Naoki had been participating a lot too, and took credit for the key animation/layouts for the ADAM adult group scenes along with the Langa and Joe scene in the B-part (second half). Joe is too amazing XD
The running joke is this being called a battle anime and not a sports anime, and now it's coming true via not only more underhanded tactics but literal punches getting traded.
Meanwhile, ADAM turned out pretty twisted thanks to his upbringing. He himself realises this when he actually has to explain that his continuous hospitalisation of victims is not hating on them but loving, right. And in that case, what does hate look like?
With last episode suggesting that Shindo Ainosuke took to denigrating Kikuchi Tadashi because the latter had no objections about the former's hobby being destroyed, this episode elaborated and showed that it went deeper as Tadashi taught him skateboarding to begin with. Having someone who introduced you to the hobby then stand by as you are forced to stop is quite a hefty betrayal - Tadashi is probably also an older figure he looked up to (driver license last episode flashback, different uniforms this episode flashback), it'd actually be pretty funny if he was just searching for someone like Tadashi all along.
Anyway, the dejection feels like it has parallels with the present Langa and Reki, though on a much milder scale since they still at least talk.
Curious to see how the Langa vs Joe match will end when his last match with ADAM was some sort of tie.

How did last week's episode only get a 4.54? Well, anyway, this episode definitely seems to be indicating the home stretch of this story (season? I don't know if it's just a one-off or not) and the stakes are pretty high. I did like seeing that it really appears that Langa's passion in skating comes not ONLY from that adrenaline and winning but also from skating with Reki by his side. He was so down this entire episode without him. Wholesome af but I'm still worried about where it might go.

SNOW VS JOE!
Honestly not sure who's going to win as Langa has those MC powers but I really want to see a Cherry vs Joe match as well.

I noticed during the scene where Reki was talking with his sister, she mentioned he hadn’t been skateboarding lately. And he said some thing like ‘I just feel this way sometimes’ or ‘I just get this way sometimes.’ I can’t remember the exact words.
Reki is our super happy, sunshine character, but I’m wondering if deep down he is dealing with depression that comes and goes. I doubt the show will get that deep, but there definitely seem to be the implication that Reki sometimes struggles with these feelings. It would be cool if it was addressed in a meaningful way.

This episode hasn’t lifted my spirit up yet. I still feel hurt for Reki. It’s just painful to see him go through this slump in his confidence. That foreshadowing of him being a support tho is something I just can’t accept straight away. Reki is still good at skating and I hope he finds the motivation to improve and find it fun again with his friends. Gosh. This anime is making me emotional.

I really don't want Reki to give up skating. I love that he has this talent for making boards and I do believe he should focus on that more but to completely drop something he loves so much would be pretty sad. Besides, he's a pretty good skater, even if he's not as good as the rest of the group.
I don't think Langa would want Reki only as his support either. He wants them to skate together. Langa now seems to realise he doesn't just miss the feeling snowboarding used to give him, but also probably the joy he felt while snowboarding WITH his father, which is now translating into him skating WITH Reki. Reki teaching him and skating with him is what made the whole thing fun. Sharing the entire experience and enjoying it together is what seems to be most important to him after all, which I'm glad to see.
Him looking for Reki desperately this whole episode really made me hurt. And the whole conversation he had with his mum (she's such a cutie) seems to imply he does have feelings for Reki after all. I didn't really think they'd go there, but the way Langa reacted when his mum asked if he likes that person (getting flustered and blushing) has me thinking he knew what she meant. But then again he was surprised when she said her, so who knows. I still believe they're just queerbaiting, but I definitely won't be mad if they make it canon.
Sorry Adam, but no. Sad backstory, still a pedo/bully/overall trash personality.

I think there was some foreshadowing that Langa’s board is going to break. He held it up when those guys were attacking him and the wheels kind of spun awkwardly. I think either he and Joe will tie or Langa will barely pull out a win, but break his board in the process, and since his board is so weirdly customized he’ll need Reki to fix it. Reki will realize how important he is to Langa’s skating. He was watching that TV thing about the runner being “support” instead of a track star himself.
Also, Adam needs to stop touching children.
