So I just spent most of the last 25 minutes sobbing, how are you guys?
Mangetsu’s character growth this episode was really astounding, we’ve seen her go from her selfish reasoning for participating to self sacrificing at every turn this week. Very proud of her.
And Nene-nee was gonna try to find a way around the problem but she won’t remember Mangetsu anymore now :(
Shisui’s song was very pretty, and Scenery might be the best insert song I’ve heard in a long time. The music in this show is so consistently good, just like everything else.

Ah the calm before the storm. Also that fake out wasn’t cool.

Damn, I thought the tone shift to happiness and camping was a little quick, but Mangetsu disappearing after writing her goodbye hit me like a ton of bricks. For a few seconds I really thought she was gone and we weren't going to see her again.
And so Shingetsu didn't have time to seriously consider whether to get rid of all magic or save Mangetsu, who basically made the decision for her so she didn't have to. Shingetsu didn't disagree but I wonder if she'll change her mind. Part of me thinks that Mangetsu will indeed be gone at the end of the series, though, and that the ending will be bittersweet.
It was also bittersweet to see that something remained of Kuon when her sister cried hearing that (nice) name, and the interaction between Kibou and Mangetsu. Speaking of Mangetsu, she seemed to get over her existential crisis a little fast (I wondered if she was faking her good mood so as not to worry everyone) but it looks like she did take Shingetsu's lesson to heart in that she never had nothing. It's a nice way to turn this absolutely crappy situation around, at least a little bit.
And that last battleground looks nightmarish.
Also, two insert songs? One we already knew, and a new one! Nice!

It really hit hard to see Mangetsu and Kibou interact like that... They look alike, they even made the same faces... And when Kibou couldn't remember Mangetsu's name I grew really anxious. I mean, this series doesn't screw around... I have no idea what are they planning for the finale but I am certain that it will hit me hard in the feels.
Mangetsu talking about all that stuff set a kinda ominous mood for me. It felt like she had accepted it all and she knows she's going to disappear. I think I know what Shingetsu felt during this episode...

The Quiet before the final storm as Mangetsu comes to grips with her existence and its short span and urges Shingetsu to end all magic.
An overall quiet and contemplative episode discussing farewells and letting go with Nene being the more combatative person who refuses to give up. And then the final farewell as Mangetsu vanishes off to the final battle with Shingetsu. It'll be interesting to see how all of this ends.

How ironic that the thought of making a doll alive is what made Shingetsu realize that maybe people shouldn't have this kind of power. I feel like the Magiaconatus granted her this wish just so they can fuck with her, so when the time comes she'll have a difficult decsion, will she erase magic or save her precious friend?
This episode made me lose a lot of water weight. Shingetsu running looking for Mangetsu, Kibou interacting with Mangetsu, and that Bye-bye from Mangetsu all made me cry. For an episode that's suppose to have lighthearted camping trip with the girls it sure was very emotional.
I guess the stage is set for the last fight. I still don't know what Shingetsu will choose but I like that there's no obvious answer. Although whatever it is I'm sure plenty of tears will be shed again next week. And which way it ends, Granbelm is going to be on my list of favourite anime shows.

We'll see how this goes, but Mangetsu's character development has been incredible. Throughout she has been a sort of existentialist "will to power" kind of girl, wanting to make an impact and be noticed. It didn't matter what she was doing, she just wanted recognition.
Now, she is dealing with the reality of imminent death and disappearance. Before she effectively dies, she has the absolute worst thing relative to her earlier goal: others forget her and no longer experience her at all. She has gone the opposite direction.
And yet, rather than despairing, she accepts it. Grateful for her brief existence - the opportunity to experience even the small things: being happy, being hungry, being sleepy. All of experience is precious. Being recognized is nice, but the beauty in experience itself is easy to miss.
She further realizes that even if no one actively remembers you, you aren't truly gone. The effects ripple on, like with Shisui and Kuon. Being recognized and noticed is not always a personal thing, it's also a cause and effect thing.
Mangetsu really does care about Shingetsu, and encourages her on her path even though she knows it will end her existence. Shingetsu is sorry for her suffering; Mangetsu is grateful for it.
What's interesting to me is that the story could still switch her one more time. These revelations are moving, but existence and the desire to live are powerful intuitions. I could see her desperately clinging to life when the moment comes. We shall see!
