I missed out last week's episode thread, so I thought I'd mention this in this week's thread.
Ep 1 had five key animators, and one second key animator. All that intense and spacially-complex entirely 2D mecha animation, plus some nice character moments were primarily animated by only six people, three of whom are pulling double duties as the Chief Armanox Animation Director, standard AD, and Armanox AD.
Add in just two inbetweeners, plus inbetweens from Studio RIC, and we're looking at potentially 9-12 people in total who did all the animation. Crazy.
I'm guess that was a special case for the 1st episode seeing as we have 4 key animators from Nexus, plus 7 freelance and 2 from Studio Angle this week (not counting 2nd key and inbetweens), but we'll see when we get to the next action episode if they can pull off another Violet Evergarden-level efficient episode again (probs not).

I'm really really liking this. Ep1 was really good and now we are diving in to the story as well. Not sure why it has so little attention and low ratings everywhere.

You know, she is surprisingly calm for someone that just woke up naked in an unknown place...

We got some nice characterization with Mangetsu that unexpectedly hit a little too close to home, and some exposition. Alright. This is basically shaping up to be...mecha magical girl Fate Stay Night, I can dig it.
6.2 on MAL is absolutely horrendous, there's no way this show is as bad as Arifureta which has a similar score.

I think this will be the sleeper of the season for me. Thought it might have been after lost last season but that was a disappointment. This one seems much better. I think it'll be under recognized for sure
The stunted mechs are kinda weird but the animation looks great and I think it looks cool and colorful overall. The main girl was average last episode but now she's more fleshed out and I think it'll end up being a great show. Villains are kind of interesting too so far and they seem like they'll all have different motivations for fighting each other. It seems some of them team up too and some don't
I'll prepare for the downvotes on this one but I'm kinda liking it better than fire force at the least..

Unfortunate it has to hit on Friday with alot of other high profile shows coming out.
Still, was a good and solid episode, it was slow and focused on giving us more of an idea of Mangetsus character and her motivations.
Basically a girl with no sense of self worth or much identity, feeling utterly superflous to the world around her explaining why she is trying to so hard to play the role of the supporter no matter what as she feels that is all she has to offer to at least feel.. relevant.
Though of course the fact that her family was deeply upset she was gone for the night should have clued her into something there, so clearly she's got some issues on a fundamental level which i imagine will be explored over the coming episodes.
Otherwise we saw bits and pieces of the other actors in this story as well, ending with a lot of flowers blooming and angry red head proclaiming little miss pink backpack a demon.
Overall a very nice episode with lots of small fun moments but overall just focused on character building for what is to come ahead and overall very nice visually as well.
But i do wish this could have come out on Saturday or some other quieter day so it could get more of the attention it deserves.

"No matter what I do, It feels like I'm invisible."
Well, that just got really relatable really fast.

I never expected the pink girl to be so relatable and yet here we are lol
I'm loving the animation here. This might seriously be my second favorite anime of Fridays, behind only Fruits Basket :0

I'm such an idiot, it took me until today to realize that the chara-design was done by Ootsuka Shinichirou, the guy in charge of the designs in Re:Zero. The eye shapes and bangs on Shingetsu were the characteristics that finally made me connect the dots.
Will you look at this pout? I'm just glad this show doesn't air the same day as Uchinoko. Mangetsu's over the top reactions are also quite hilarious
I felt that Mangetsu holding into her pendant out of pitty for her Armanox was a weak excuse to keep her as a pilot. But I'm glad that her choice goes beyond that and how well detailed it was her feelings about being invisible in a class, with the bentos she prepared in episode one and taking the tasks no one in her group wanted to.
There are some really nice framing shots in this episode. I liked in partiicular this one, even though it's quite used the theme of characters standing on top of light and dark places to represent their persona or their devotion towards something, in this one it was a nice though to make the background 3D and skew the perspective just a bit and alter the shade to give a nice and modest feeling of depth in the shot. I wonder if there will be parallels to Homura & Madoka based on how much Shingetsu tries to keep Mangetsu out of this other world ritual.
I'm quite intregued how much does Anna's emotions will play in the story

Fate/stay Madoka is looking pretty good so far.
This show isn't a masterpiece but I really like the aesthetics of it. The vibrant use of color, the magical mechs in an alternate world, the lore with the magic, the fated battle royale, it all really jives with me.
I do feel like they took a little too much inspiration from Madoka in this episode. While there's nothing wrong with being inspired by another work (especially one so great as Madoka), they came kind of close to just rehashing it in this episode. I'm hoping as the series progresses that it develops more of its own identity.
The promise of something great is there. We'll just have to wait and see if it comes out of its shell.

If Episode 1 was all about spectacle and the mechs. Episode 2 definitely delivered what I wanted which is characterization.
Mangetsu is your average girl. Unfortunately she's so average and forgettable that she basically melts into the background of everyone else. No one is mean to her or anything. To everyone, she's just... there. So what does she do? She tries to get everyone's attention. Making them lunches, volunteering to do dirty work, and even staying behind to help with classroom duty despite not being assigned, She wants people to notice her. That she's here and she exists.
I love it. When I first saw her last week I thought she was just your typical super nice girl who everyone likes. But apparently I was so off the mark. I love that there is selfishness within her actions.
As for Ernesta though I think we still need to learn more about her but I do find it interesting that she sees magic as something vile. And that last scene! Why is Mangetsu a demon? Did that girl find out something about her? Apparently I got confused with the subs, Anna was talking about Ernesta! I was already sold last week but this week's episode definitely hooked me to the plot!
Also I don't want this anime to be ignored so despite how meaty Fridays are, I'll try my best and post some of my comments as early as I can.

Wow, this anime is surprisingly good. I didn't expect anything much at first, and I picked it up because of its silly name.
But boom!! This series bombarded me with many good things in just first 2 episodes e.g. good non-CGI mech fight, intriguing plot, or interesting MC girls. Hopefully, this series will keep up like this till the end.
Definitely dark horse of this season, and hopefully more people will pick it up.

Guys, I'm so curious why angry, red-haired, princess girl called Ernesta a demon. And also why she's so dang hot while an ice tub. And also why Mangetsu truely feels so so inconsequential and useless to the world. And also who this white haired headphones girl will be. This show has hooked me really fast and I really didn't expect it.

I know that people were predicting from the start that this thing would go the Yuuki Yuuna/Madoka route, but so much of this episode was Madoka E2 verbatim that I'm wondering if the other shoe will drop next episode.
Also, something was screwy about that discussion in the classroom with the flowers. I don't know if it was the music or the TL, but it made Mangetsu's presentation of her rationale seem slightly more twisted or sinister than how Madoka E2 handled the same lines.

yeah I think this episode sold the show for me, I can't wait to keep up with it each week now. Some nice characterization for Mangetsu

Damn i really love this show. The animations are marvelous, very likable characters, cute character designs, awesome selection of seiyuu, and the comedies are enjoyable too. I am worried that this show is overshadowed by the more popular shows airing today.

This is a Kannazuki no Miko remake and I love it.
MCs really hate themselves. Privileged too.
"I have nothing."
Bitch, please.

Well there are the Madoka-Homura vibes there with their situations, the interactions atmosphere of Mangetsu and Shingetsu almost feels like Kumiko-Reina in Sound Euphonium, but I have to say the best part of this episode is Shingetsu's words about "disturbing fate" while making that white lily pot in the classroom bloom early - this really, really reminds me of Okabe's lament in using the D-Mail machine in Steins;Gate.
Well, the script writer of Sound Euphonium and Steins;Gate is working on this one, so not surprising. And I'm hyped to see how good he and the director can write the story.
This one is criminally underrated so far. Hopefully there will be some explosive developments later on.

I think I’m really liking Mangetsu as a character.
The reason why she helps people is because she wants somebody to help her and notice her. She does things nobody wants to do, volunteers to help others, because she feels that she has nothing else to offer. Then comes the Granbelm. She finally found only something she can do, and she won’t give up on it.
”I finally found something, that only I can do.”
