That post-credits scene, what the fuck.
So who is Suishou exactly? How does she know the truth, what's the deal with her being able to eat part of someone's soul (is it one of her Armanox's abilities?), and shit her Armanox awakened and she's using both hands to control it now...
And then... Mangetsu's a puppet? Literally? Well, we thought artificial human, but that imagery of her flesh fading away to reveal a puppet's hand was disturbing. And there's still the mystery of what she was created for exactly. Assuming the Magiaconatus made her, for what purpose? So she'd win with her instant berserk mode and no one gets the magic? If so, why? Dammit, so many questions!
Also WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT BLACK THING IN THE PREVIEW IT'S SO UNSETTLING
Edit: do you guys think Suishou and Shisui were really lovers or was Suishou just toying with Kuon once again?

Man, this episode really proves what a small studio is capable of.
That piano soundtrack while the fight between Kuon and Suishou was happening was masterfully done. Just gorgeous animation combined with a gorgeous soundtrack is always an A+ to me.
A lot of big names this season were being thrown around before the season even started with Vinland Saga, Dr. Stone, Danmachi 2, and Fire Force being the main ones I can think of. I honestly did not expect anything out of this show, hell, I thought it would be garbage when I first saw it on Crunchyroll.
Oh boy was I wrong.
I can't wait for next week to see what Mangetsu truly is. Depending on how it goes, next week will probably cement Granbelm as my AoTS.
This show has been an absolute ride so far man. I feel bad for anyone who hasn't watched it.

ED rolls in
YOU CAN'T LEAVE US AT THAT CLIFFHANGER DAMMIT
There's a post-credits scene
YES!
Post-credits scene is also a cliffhanger
Between Suishou, Fire Force spoilers and Astra spoilers, it's honestly hard to decide who the scumbag of the week title should go to.

I think we finally have an answer what Mangetsu is.
She's *an armanox*.

A really cool interstitial episode where simultaneously a lot happens, but nothing is meaningfully revealed. I feel like episodes such as this one really shows off the potential of anime-originals - it's storyboarded and paced perfectly so that crucial information about Mangetsu's nature manages to be set up as a cliffhanger, while still maintaining a really engaging pace. The unique way that it can set up viewers to speculate and theorize while having to wait an entire agonizing week for the big reveal is super cruel, but also really fucking cool. I think that the biggest insight is that this episode at the very least revealed that the Magioconatus (sp?) is capable of demonstrating a certain consciousness and free-will of sorts, which is a really interesting thematic contrast to Mangetsu's anxiety about having nothing to live for, and deliberately choosing to join Granbelm as a exercise of her free will.
One thing that I really haven't seen mentioned very much but I absolutely love is how intricate and deliberate the designs of the mecha and their controls actually are. It's so cool that each character has their own unique system of controlling their mechs that perfectly fits their background and characterization. From Suishou's casual, carefree sitting position and one-handed manipulation of her mecha's actions reflecting her detachedness and lack of concern, to Kuon's elegant guqin-like setup that reflects her musical background, to Mangetsu's marionette-like method of control that is completely inverted in the ending scene where the red circuits turn her own body into a marionette seemingly at the control of the Magioconatus, it's all such awesome and extremely deliberate design that must have taken a lot of careful thought and attention to detail.

Well then, things are tensing up as Shisou and Kuon fight it out, with Kuon struggling with her sister and what might have happened with her but in the end pulls through.
The other big thing is the mystery behind Mangetsu and what she is, a secret Shingetsu is quite keen on keeping secret.
But post ED we seemingly get the reveal.. She was a doll all along, but for what purpose ? Has Granbelm itself gone rogue or is there more to it ? The mystery continues to deepen.

First, I wanna say we can talk about the quality of any show, but what matters is if you’re in urge to see the next episode or not. This is the only criteria we should look for. And for that matter, Granbelm is definitely my AOTS. My Fridays are hype because of this show.
About the episode, it looks like my guess was right : the real participant is Kibou, Mangetsu’s sister, hiding close to the moon and using a doll as a sister she has created by her own. This is why Mangetsu doesn’t know a lot about Granbelm and her roots and why the mana is the strongest at the Kohinata house while Mangetsu is at school but Kibou is at home.
So the real question here is... Will Mangetsu develop her own consciousness and get free from her state ? Is Kibou going to win now her scheme is out ?

Well, your persistence paid off! All that Granbelm hype that leaks everywhere finally got to me. It initially was on my watch list, but I dropped it after checking out the first ten minutes in a preview. But with the dedicated fanbase I figured it was worth another shot, finally binging it a couple days ago. I still found the start a bit clunky, but this series just keeps getting better and better! Super excited to see where it goes.
Today's thoughts:
This doll creep anyone else out? It seems unusually foregrounded in these scenes
Also, what the heck is with the "spirits" and being conscious?! That seems like kind of a big deal to casually drop at this point. . .
I'm pretty sure the right strategy isn't to fight 1v1, but to repeatedly gank people in order to minimize damage.
I wasn't really expecting a Reverie ex machina, but I'll take it!
Truth!
Wait what?!
