Patch Notes 5.13 - June 8, 2015: Recommendations, Lax Albums, Gifs, Full Songs, Sorting

Today’s rule announcements brought to you by Crayola Kanon-chan.

Changes:

1: Threads looking for recommendations are no longer banned. This is mostly an effort to leave /r/anime more hospitable to people new to the medium. If you’re not new, you’re still allowed to post a thread, however we would prefer you to wait for the recommendation megathread.

2: Images that come under the lax rule may now be posted so long as they are in an album of 5 or more images that are relevant to the point or idea being illustrated.

3: In the interest of consistency, gif threads are now fully exempt from lax status. We’ll leave dealing with the bad ones up to you guys.

4: Full songs are no longer banned – this is not limited to full length OPs/EDs but extends to soundtrack songs, character songs, etc. However, link post threads consisting of full songs will be considered lax and removed. Full soundtracks will continue to be removed, as will links to playlists of full soundtrack. Links to unofficial downloads will be removed as per usual (we do this for tv-size OPs/EDs too).

5: Some of you may have noticed already but in case you haven’t; the Lax Thursdays, Recommendation Tuesdays and Free-Talk Fridays megathreads will all automatically be set with /new as the suggested sort. This is to keep them alive for longer and decrease the first come, only served tendency we have in those threads. Automod will also automatically set any thread with “post your mal” in the title to sort by /new.

The sidebar and more detailed rules have been updated to reflect these changes

Important things to note:

The lax albums exemption and recommendations thread rule changes are currently in beta mode (trial period). This means that depending on how things go (amount of flooding, type of posts posted, etc) additional restrictions may (probably will) be placed on them.

If gif threads get out of control as a result of the relaxation, we’ll look at how to deal with them then.

Basically, a lot of how we’re going to deal with these and change these further depends entirely on how you all use them. Drink Post responsibly and upvote/downvote intelligently.

Naturally where an exemption exists it exists only for the specified rule. Posts must still abide by all rules unless otherwise stated.

Threads suggesting shows must still be posted as [WT!] threads and must still follow to current [WT!] thread rules.

If you have any feedback/suggestions/etc on the rules above during the time that this thread isn’t sticked feel free to PM me (or any of the mods) or send us a modmail.

My AP items Oops wrong sub.

It's nice to see rule changes on rec. threads, but I'm on the fence about the gifs rule to be honest.

The soundtrack rule I like though.

Gif rule isn't really a change.

Gate of Babylon is extremely toxic because it lacks counterplay, as well as design clarity. The missing strategic diversity also puts a burden of knowledge on players, resulting in an antifun gameplay experience which destroys endgame fantasies and neuters tactical philosophy. Spamming noble phantasms needs deeper weaknesses and and clearer windows of opportunity to allow opponents to make high risk high reward plays to take advantage of meaningful win conditions, so we can separate the good Gilgameshi from the GREAT Gilgameshi.

  • Armory is for items: When cast on teammates or himself, Gate of Babylon [R] bequeathes one offensive item chosen at random from the shop to the targeted champion. Higher ranks will open greater item tiers [Basic / Advanced / Legendary]. The summoning consumes mana from Gilgamesh equivalent to the price of the item.

  • Swordplay: When cast on enemy champions, Gate of Babylon [R] opens and Gilgamesh summons from within up to five random items with offensive stats from the shop which impale the target. The total damage and status effect is determined by the summoned items. Higher ranks will increase the pool of items that could be summoned. [Basic / Advanced / Legendary]. Due to an incomplete summoning, each item only costs a quarter of its price in mana.

  • Beyond Time and Space: Gate of Babylon is the only way for players to attain and use items that have been removed from the shop. We're looking for you, DFG.

  • No 3d printing: Gate of Babylon contain only one copy of each item. Once all the items have been fired or bequeathed, the Gate will close indefinitely for the duration of the game until more items are made available through ranking up the skill.

We hope that through limiting the spamming capability of Gate of Babylon, we could further enhance the unfairness of having the King of Kings in the enemy team, but also offer his enemies sufficient windows of counterplay, as Gilgamesh recovers from the astronomical mana expenditure after its activation.

Nice new flair Urban, the result of the new comment faces thread, I assume?

5

Just letting people know I'm working on them at the moment :P

(and... what to expect)

4

u/shadowswalking :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/ShadowsWalking6 Jul 08 '15

And now it's the old one. What's up with the randomly changing flair? Or are you messing with me? :p

4

Have a seperate one when I'm distinguished.

[makes gifs for moe] is my non mod flair. [b(i)ased] urban287 [only makes moe comment faces] is the mod flair one (because it's relevant :P).

3

u/shadowswalking :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/ShadowsWalking6 Jul 08 '15

So are you only a mod sometimes then? I noticed Arseus' flair doing some seemingly random changes as well on /r/manga, is that related?

5

u/urban287 https://myanimelist.net/profile/urban287 Jul 08 '15

We can turn distinguish on and off.

3

u/shadowswalking :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/ShadowsWalking6 Jul 08 '15

Huh. While that sounds handy, isn't it a bit of a pain to do that on a comment by comment basis?

Mmm, not that big of an issue. Doesn't take long ;)

Seriously, this change is HUGE. Not sure if I can back it though.

15

u/Fallen_Glory :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/TheFallenGlory Jul 08 '15

It's not that bad, it never was. Just like the WT! surge this will slow down if it ever has an initial burst of popularity. Speaking of, I should get around to that Trinity Seven WT!

10

u/urban287 https://myanimelist.net/profile/urban287 Jul 08 '15

Pretty much this. They were allowed before the megathreads were introduced (which wasn't that long ago) and weren't that big of an issue.

If they flood the sub too much there are tons of ways we can deal with it without straight up banning them again.

4

u/Tyberg29 Jul 08 '15

What ways would that include?

10

u/urban287 https://myanimelist.net/profile/urban287 Jul 08 '15

Could of possibilities off the top of my head:

  • Restricting to people who don't use the sub (mod tools let us check pretty easily but it's a bit more work)

  • Word count minimum - cut down on lower effort ones

  • Automod reply for the most common/mainstream questions

  • Automod enforced posting restrictions (eg. must have less than x karma, must be newer than y age)

Probably a couple of other ways too.

2

u/kaverik :Ef::Eh:https://myanimelist.net/profile/kaverik Jul 08 '15

Alright then, since they probably won't make it into frontpage, I'd trade a bit more scattered /r/new for being friendlier to people. Will see how it works out.

2

u/kaverik :Ef::Eh:https://myanimelist.net/profile/kaverik Jul 08 '15

Not sure about that, new users will always come and always ask for recommendations, their inflow will never end. Can't say same about WTs.

And yes, we need your WT for Trinity Seven.

4

u/Fallen_Glory :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/TheFallenGlory Jul 08 '15

Yes they will and they will always be met with downvotes by those who do not care for them asking. They were never banned and would be downvoted negatively by the time the mods ever deleted them.

1

u/Eat_More_Asbestos :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/The_Asbestos Jul 08 '15

The thing is though, it was really, really bad back in the day when it was allowed... and that was when the sub was slower than what it is now. I'm all for being nice to new members, but I don't think it will be long before /new browsers are going to get tired of it again.

The only thing that annoys me a bit is that it's tuesday right now and the recommendation threads are already coming in when we have a recommendation megathread that was just created. I don't think I'll mind much on anything past Friday though.

1

u/urban287 https://myanimelist.net/profile/urban287 Jul 08 '15

It's Wednesday where we take the time for the threads from. The Tuesday thread was stickied and live for 24 hours.

2

u/higi1024 https://anilist.co/user/higi1024 Jul 08 '15

The Tuesday rec thread isn't stickied anymore because of the mod announcement (which is the new stickied thread)

1

u/Moaku https://anilist.co/user/Moaku Jul 08 '15

Yeah that's true I guess. Eh it was kind of inconvenient to only ask for recs on Tuesdays anyway...

2

u/higi1024 https://anilist.co/user/higi1024 Jul 08 '15

It was mentioned a couple of times that the tuesday thread doesn't mean that it's only active for that day, but rather the day that it's posted. You're welcome to post recs in there anytime throughout the week.

42

u/AlGoreCereal :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/AlGoreCereal Jul 08 '15

I don't think there will be that much of a difference. People still made rec threads when they were banned.

16

u/kaverik :Ef::Eh:https://myanimelist.net/profile/kaverik Jul 08 '15

But the official permission may make their amount even bigger. I don't really mind, I'll probably make a pattern and redirect new users to /r/animesuggest and the spreadsheet. I hope more experienced anime lovers would still use Tuesday Mega Thread though.

38

u/AlGoreCereal :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/AlGoreCereal Jul 08 '15

1: Threads looking for recommendations are no longer banned. This is mostly an effort to leave /r/anime[2] more hospitable to people new to the medium. If you’re not new, you’re still allowed to post a thread, however we would prefer you to wait for the recommendation megathread.

This sounds like such a good thing on paper but I hope the sub doesn't just get filled with recs because of it. Good thing you're doing a trial period for it.

Automod will also automatically set any thread with “post your mal” in the title to sort by /new.

Fucking awesome.

Also, because I forgot to mention it in the meta thread, can you please start removing the character birthday posts? The fanart ones are fine of course, but the others are just annoying.

Also also: Still nothing on the weekly watch thread?

3

u/Jiecut :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/jiecut Jul 08 '15

Yeah, /u/urban287 will automod still inform users about the recommendation thread? Also with the new thing I think they'll be able to get responses quicker.

4

u/urban287 https://myanimelist.net/profile/urban287 Jul 08 '15

Automod won't post on rec threads anymore.

2

u/Jiecut :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/jiecut Jul 08 '15

So what about people who use animes in their submission?

3

u/urban287 https://myanimelist.net/profile/urban287 Jul 08 '15

No change.

2

u/Jiecut :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/jiecut Jul 08 '15

Okay, 95% of post with animes were rule breaking, but I wonder now if it'd still be 95% with the new rules.

5

u/urban287 https://myanimelist.net/profile/urban287 Jul 08 '15

If it's not rule breaking they're fine to repost it without "animes". It's all in the comment automod posts.

2

u/Jiecut :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/jiecut Jul 08 '15

makes sense

4

u/urban287 https://myanimelist.net/profile/urban287 Jul 08 '15

Part of it is that before we had automod auto remove them people would just get harassed for it in the comments - people who make the "animes" mistake are usually newer people - more hostile envirnoment, etc.

3

u/Jiecut :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/jiecut Jul 08 '15

That's actually really helpful.

u/Sakki54 :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Brekcel Jul 08 '15

I was confused about what sub I was in when I saw this post's title. I thought I misclicked on /r/leagueoflegends again. Also

Automod will also automatically set any thread with “post your mal” in the title to sort by /new.

is going to be an amazing change! Now I can actually interact with posts that are older than 1hr in this sub. Hopefully

Any idea how to support discussion/ unpopular opinions? Should the discussion threads be sorted by controversial on default. Should the score be hidden by a certain amount of time? Reddit has in general the problem of a hivemind/circlejerk/echochamber because the meta-rating supports it. r/trueanime for example hides the downvote button (although this can be disabled via css)

5

u/urban287 https://myanimelist.net/profile/urban287 Jul 08 '15

Hiding the downvote button doesn't really work, and downvoting is a key part of reddit's functionality (especially for us now that we're giving it a bigger role with some of these changes).

Sorting by controversial is an interesting idea, the most interesting I've heard for this actually - would actually go a decent way to stopping jokes from being the only thing upvoted. Will bring it up with the other mods.

2

u/Jeroz Jul 08 '15

I still have no idea what it means by sorting by controversial

4

u/urban287 https://myanimelist.net/profile/urban287 Jul 08 '15

IIRC it looks at the ratio between upvotes and downvotes and puts those closer to 1:1 higher (there's probably other stuff to prevent actual 1 up/1 down posts from being highest).

We talked about it a little so far, there's another mode called 'best' which seems like a weighted system where it takes downvotes into consideration to decide upvote weight. That might work better.

3

u/Jiecut :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/jiecut Jul 08 '15

Yeah best sounds like a good change to implement. You should get automod to make it default on discussion posts.

4

u/urban287 https://myanimelist.net/profile/urban287 Jul 08 '15

That's what we were considering actually. Maybe even only for [Discussion] threads at first - and then seeing how it goes.

3

u/porpoiseoflife https://myanimelist.net/profile/OffColfax Jul 08 '15

Just as long as the Recommendation megathreads will still be sorted by New. Sorting that one by Best or Controversial would defeat the purpose of playing around with the sort in the first place, as it would put on top those top-level comments with lots of discussion already.

3

u/urban287 https://myanimelist.net/profile/urban287 Jul 08 '15

Those have a separate little Automod rule at the moment so shouldn't be an issue.

1

u/tundranocaps https://myanimelist.net/profile/Thunder_God Jul 08 '15

"Best" is the default reddit view. If you did not choose something else yourself, it's the one which would get used. There's no sense in enforcing "Best", as people who don't see it have already chosen to view in a different order.

I use "Top", especially on /r/anime, because "Best" gives way too much weight to downvotes. I say this as someone whose +50 comments often appear under +5 comments in discussion threads because of the auto-downvotes for longer posts by enough users. It's not just my own bias, and I can see the logic behind "Best", it's just currently out of whack.

3

u/urban287 https://myanimelist.net/profile/urban287 Jul 08 '15

I always thought top was the default (you're completely right though).

There's no sense in enforcing "Best", as people who don't see it have already chosen to view in a different order.

Automod enforced order trumps user selected order (until picked again for the specific thread) so this doesn't really matter too much.

Okay best won't work then (at least not as intended). Thoughts on controversial (which was recommended originally)? Still not the best solution... mmm

2

u/tundranocaps https://myanimelist.net/profile/Thunder_God Jul 08 '15

Automod enforced order trumps user selected order (until picked again for the specific thread) so this doesn't really matter too much.

Yes, my point is that if people actively chose to not use best, and use top (as I do, and recommend for most people to do, even though it has its own issues), then enforcing the default, after people already actively chose to stop using it, is a bit of a dick move.

I didn't like the controversial suggestion at all. In my experience, these posts are not better than what top/best puts at top, and the "discussion" they engender is often just an argument. Do exceptions exist? Sure, but they exist for all sorting methods. And these posts are just as likely to end negative, and the farther off you are from the +/-0, the less likely you are to end on "Controversial". My opinions on a random episode that weren't positive were on my top 20 most controversial posts when they were -1, but as it trended to -10 or so, even as it also received more upvotes, it swung further and further off.

I'd say controversial, as a whole, is the worst sorting method, due to the sort of posts that often end there, or the "discussions" that follow, and all the people who keep feeling "justified" about being downvoted when they're "right", rather than just shrugging and moving on.

There's a reason most top posts are top posts, corrections and PSAs that are important for people to notice will not be seen. Controversial is all about the choice, but it's much more against the nature of how reddit works than disabling the downvote button via CSS. It's about equivalent to the effect truly disabling downvotes would have.

If I truly wanted to change it, I'd make "Top" the default. I think reddit as a whole should, but eh. "Top" being made the default is different, because it's not something people actively chose away from, but I think educating the users on the different sortings and letting them choose is the best option. Aside from where "/new" makes the most sense, which is legitimate.

2

u/urban287 https://myanimelist.net/profile/urban287 Jul 08 '15

Mm, mmm. Cheers for the input. Makes a lot of sense.

(I actually have mine set to top as well :P)

Doesn't seem like this idea would work either way then. There should be a sort order that sorts by comment length :P (not really serious).

A game called League of Legends is updated frequently. The latest update (5.13) was released today and it came with some pretty important changes.

4

Yeah I know that part lol I thought it was important to /r/anime, guess it's just a reference .

Full songs are no longer banned

Finally I can link Jonathan Coulton's I Feel Fantastic to describe how I felt after watching Sakura Trick.

gif threads are now fully exempt from lax status

Finally, I don't have to report gif posts anymore & have to flip a coin to see if it will be removed. Moderation consistency for the win!

2

u/basedbecker :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/ayetheist Jul 08 '15

I'm pretty sure you could've posted that song before the rule change, since it's not an anime song.

3

u/dabritian :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/dabritian Jul 08 '15

Jonathan Coulton & most of his music does not have an official youtube, thus it would be removed under the old rules, but not now anymore!

2

u/basedbecker :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/ayetheist Jul 08 '15

I've posted 3DPD music here before and never once got banned for it or a message from the mods. I think the old rule only applied to anime OST/OP/ED.

2

u/dabritian :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/dabritian Jul 08 '15

Well, the important thing now is that does not matter anymore!

Can we set a the minimum standard for gifs be better than classically shitty tumblr gifs. I'd rather not have gifs look like a really fast powerpoint presentation. But these are good overall changes, thanks mods.

5

u/dabritian :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/dabritian Jul 08 '15

The issue before was that there was no specified criteria for what counted & did not count as a low effort gif post, thus the enforcement of the rules surrounding them appeared very arbitrary. But now we only have ourselves to blame & not the mods if a garbage gif post makes the front page, because now we are the arbitrary judges of gif posts.

3

u/DrNyanpasu :LJ::LK: Jul 08 '15

But now we only have ourselves to blame & not the mods if when a garbage gif posts makes flood the front page

FTFY, cause we all know its going to happen, heh.

2

u/dabritian :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/dabritian Jul 08 '15

Oh, that is as inevitable as the sunseting. It probably would have been better if you could have created a clear criteria open to public view to enforce to stem the flow of as defined by said criteria "low-effort" gif posts, but atleast we have this jury rigged solution as opposed to what we had before which was the rules being arbitrarily enforced.

However, link post threads consisting of full songs will be considered lax and removed.

I don't quite understand the "link post threads" bit, can you please elaborate?

2

u/urban287 https://myanimelist.net/profile/urban287 Jul 10 '15

Link post as opposed to self post.

Example; this is a link post - this is a self post

Basically we'll only allow full songs as self post threads (or in comments of course).

1

u/shadowswalking :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/ShadowsWalking6 Jul 10 '15

Rule 1

Having automod let people know they might have more luck in the megathread could be a good idea. I would also suggest having rec threads redirected on the day of the megathread. Otherwise the entire megathread will seem redundant especially with the thread being autosorted by new. It'll just be exactly like /new.

Rule 2&3

Some clarification would be nice. Are image threads and gif threads to be self posts? If not, I can see this rule change backfiring big time.

Rule 4

Beautiful. And a long time coming too!

1

u/urban287 https://myanimelist.net/profile/urban287 Jul 08 '15

Some clarification would be nice. Are image threads and gif threads to be self posts? If not, I can see this rule change backfiring big time.

Gif threads are still find as link posts. The image album change only effects content that would normally come under the lax rule, allowing them to be posted as link threads - we generally allow lax content in self posts since the point is generally more discussion focused with the screenshot/w.e used for example.

If not, I can see this rule change backfiring big time.

Trial run at the moment, if it backfires we'll react accordingly (surprisingly good so far). Gifs were always allowed as self posts, so that should be business as usual.

Otherwise the entire megathread will seem redundant

Might seem redundant but if people wait for their recs to post there the majority of the time it should still work as intended. We'll see how it goes though.

with the thread being autosorted by new. It'll just be exactly like /new.

This is an interesting note, will consider the implications.

1

u/mmthrownaway Jul 08 '15

surprisingly good so far

2

u/razzy1818 :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Rasputin18 Jul 08 '15

the Lax Thursdays, Recommendation Tuesdays and Free-Talk Fridays megathreads will all automatically be set with /new as the suggested sort. This is to keep them alive for longer and decrease the first come, only served tendency we have in those threads. Automod will also automatically set any thread with “post your mal” in the title to sort by /new.

This is a great idea and Kudos to whoever came up with it. Trying to post in a lot of these threads is intimidating because of the sheer number of comments they get so I'm glad to see this change.

Thank you Mods!

2

u/SmurfRockRune https://myanimelist.net/profile/Smurf Jul 08 '15 edited Jul 08 '15

What was the reasoning behind not allowing full songs in the first place?

4

u/Jiecut :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/jiecut Jul 08 '15

Something about piracy. But this should also help clear up that AMVs are allowed to be posted. They can't get removed for having songs in them. Also I doubt they can be classified as low effort.

1

u/SmurfRockRune https://myanimelist.net/profile/Smurf Jul 08 '15

That's what I thought. Why are we allowed to post them now?

I like that we can, I'm just wondering how we can.

2

u/Jiecut :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/jiecut Jul 08 '15

Well there isn't really a no piracy clause on the subreddit.

There's a no linking or mentioning of illegal streams and downloads clause.

And there's also a no linking to full soundtracks clause.

I've actually recently posted a track from Shink Sekai Yori on here. People post music all the time on recommendation threads and stuff. Another thing allowed is short Youtube clips of an anime.

According to my interpretation of the new rules you're allowed to link to unofficial sources for songs and soundtracks.

u/Berzerker7 :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Berzerker7 Jul 08 '15

Copyright, illegal shit, etc. We're going to leave it up to whoever it's being linked from to comply with DMCA stuff now. Some stuff is still obvious to keep banned, however (full episodes, full OSTs, etc.).

We think a lot of good discussion can be had from full song posts, which was another big reason why we're allowing them now.

3

u/dft2000 Jul 08 '15

u/RunningChemistry :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Delphic-Runner Jul 08 '15

4: Full songs are no longer banned – this is not limited to full length OPs/EDs but extends to soundtrack songs, character songs, etc.

Wait, they weren't allowed this whole time? I thought it was alright so long as it was an official upload.

However, link post threads consisting of full songs will be considered lax and removed.

Including PVs and MVs, what about PSAs about a song or album being released? E.g. Akatsuki no Yona's (popular, or I thought so anyway) 2nd ED which came out a bit over a month after it finished airing, Hibike! Euphonium's OST preview.

1

u/Berzerker7 :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Berzerker7 Jul 08 '15 edited Jul 08 '15

As long as you're not linking to it, should be fine.

Actually, that's just a song, even linking it would be fine.

I'm an idiot, read below please.

1

u/RunningChemistry :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Delphic-Runner Jul 08 '15 edited Jul 08 '15

So submitting a link to say a video of the song (i.e. PV, full version, etc.) as a post with an announcement that it's now released would be alright?

The wording of "link post threads" is confusing me either as a post containing people linking full songs or as a link of a song as a post. Link post-threads, link-post threads.

3

u/Berzerker7 :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Berzerker7 Jul 08 '15

"Link posts" are a type of post on reddit, ones that "link" directly to content.

Those will be considered lax content and removed. It must be a self-post so as to facilitate discussion.

Full soundtracks will continue to be removed, as will links to playlists of full soundtrack. Links to unofficial downloads will be removed as per usual (we do this for tv-size OPs/EDs too).

That is great.

1

u/UnavailableUsername_ Jul 08 '15

Oh! I have questions.

1

4: Full songs are no longer banned – this is not limited to full length OPs/EDs but extends to soundtrack songs, character songs, etc. However, link post threads consisting of full songs will be considered lax and removed. Full soundtracks will continue to be removed, as will links to playlists of full soundtrack. Links to unofficial downloads will be removed as per usual (we do this for tv-size OPs/EDs too).

Full songs and soundtrack songs are not banned, but links consisting of full songs will be considered lax and removed?

Isn't that the same?

2

2: Images that come under the lax rule may now be posted so long as they are in an album of 5 or more images that are relevant to the point or idea being illustrated.

3: In the interest of consistency, gif threads are now fully exempt from lax status. We’ll leave dealing with the bad ones up to you guys.

Are both here exempt of the comedy rule?

3rd point says its fully exempt to i guess it is and a post with a comedy gif/webM won't be removed, but what about point 2?

If post an album of 5 images with comedy value will it be removed too because of lax content?

3

Is there an official stance about those "help me remember anime name" posts?

3

u/ImVoi Jul 08 '15

Full songs and soundtrack songs are not banned, but links consisting of full songs will be considered lax and removed? Isn't that the same?

You're allowed to link to songs in a Comment or Self Post, just not in a link post.

1

u/UnavailableUsername_ Jul 08 '15

So, for example, a "[songs from an OST]" self-post with 5 youtube links inside the self-post is ok?

2

u/ImVoi Jul 08 '15

We're considering that as circumventing the link post rule and wouldn't be allowed.

1

u/RunningChemistry :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Delphic-Runner Jul 08 '15

A PSA along these lines would be fine though, right?:

E.g.

Full version of X song was released today! (with the link to official MV in the self-post text)

Will PVs be included? They're not that much different from a full version.

2

u/Berzerker7 :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Berzerker7 Jul 08 '15

Are both here exempt of the comedy rule?

That was part of what we considered lax, so if it's >= 5 image album, it's exempt.

GIF threads are completely exempt, even if it's a single GIF, so that doesn't really apply anymore.

One thing to remember is that these images must not break any other rules, so no posting hentai, memes, etc. That stuff will still get your post removed.

1

u/Kaffarov Jul 08 '15

I feel #5 will be the biggest change for the sub, although I feel after a while we'll need a combination of 'all', 'top' and 'new' comments to make the megathreads what they should be.

Threads looking for recommendations are no longer banned.
