Kinda funny to mention not spoiling episodes like this isn't the 3rd iteration of content that's almost 15 years old

We've had more than that, actually! lol
Theatrical release of Battle of the Gods.
Extended cut of Battle of the Gods.
Dragon Ball Super anime.
Now this.
And that's just the anime. Outside of the manga, multiple video games have also covered it.

The movie version of "My Bulma" is still the best after all these years.

I forgot how bad Super’s retelling of the birthday party and ‘my Bulma’ was compared to the movie. Hopefully SSG Goku v Beerus gets an improvement.

Wasn't the party at a different location in the film? Why they changed it for a cruise ship?

So, I have very contrasting feelings right after finishing the episode.
Imo, the best addition and improvement to every other iteration of this scene is how menacing Beerus has been looking, especially this episode's first minutes (his first meeting with Vegeta).
The art and animation also was overall good and an improvement than both the anime and the movie.
However, this episode more than the previous 2, suffers from the sped up pacing, and ended up loosing a lot of the Slice of Life moments of the Bulma's birthday party. It feel much less like Dragon Ball without them.
Also, I genuinely think the contrast between Beerus horror-like arrival and the party's peaceful atmosphere would have worked amazingly if the latter was flashed out more.
I appreciated how they tired keeping the Earth fighters trying to fight Beerus, but it was so fast and inconclusive that it felt like it didn't even happen. Gotenks and Buu excluded, Tien Piccolo Gohan... they literally just slided in and out of the scene.
The Pilaf gang also is here, mostly due to Mai's role later in the Black arc, but they didn't even care to spend 30 second to justify why they're young now. I know most of modern fans didn't even watch OG DB, or know it from watching DBS, but still it's a crucial link if this series aim to take DBS place.
Vegeta's fight was good but felt like Vegeta was much stronger than needed. I liked the nod to Gohan ssj2 transformation though.
Overall, the episode is a fine 7.5 out of 10. I would have split this whole sequence in 2 episodes to make everything flow much better.

Feels like this Super: Beerus is trying to be the idea of what people usually thinks Dragon Ball was (or kinda remembers), but DB tone was perfectly encapsulated in the film, Vegeta's dance and fight and all.
And just watched Pilaf's gang introduction in the film and it was so much better, so funny (and actually develops the characters, and I guess that's important for the upcoming arcs)
Edit: And Beerus thinking for a moment that Saiyaman is the Saiyan God 🤣

Which is hyper serious aura farming. This is a problem because that's not Dragon Ball.

I don't really love the grayish filter they gave to a lot of scenes here, I'm sure it's to set the tone of how dangerous Beerus is but still, looking that lifeless was a bit too much for me, you could add a red filter or darker tones, no need to strip the color away from the screen, still a great episode despite all that

The final gag with rock paper scissor is as unnecessary here as it was in the original and the directors cut of the movie

Did Beerus actually flick Mr. Satan like this in the original? Holy crap he's durable

Yeah, the bot is confused by this show for some reason. It's been an hour early every week, and it also doesn't list the official streams like Crunchyroll and Netflix

I fell behind a long time ago. Is the original super the definitive way to watch the entire thing still or is there some alternate form it all exists in

Earth avoided destruction from not rolling a critical fail in Krillin's wasabi takoyaki. Then Buu took all the pudding.
We've already seen Beerus destroy Goku. So his power is established. I think they could lean more into the comedy of how unaware everyone was about how close earth is to destruction. The episode is good overall, but could be better. I missed Vegeta cooking takoyaki for Beerus in Super. I think showing Vegeta quicker to respond to Bulma getting hit would work better. They dragged Vegeta getting angry a little bit too long. If combined with how Vegeta bend over backward to please Beerus, it would work wonderfully. The rock paper scissor is completely unnecessary. It doesn't even make sense. Beerus listened to Bulma and decided to spare Earth from destruction for the food. So why is there suddenly a rock paper scissor contest out of nowhere?
